When Gu Ruochu saw that Huo Nanchen had woken up, she quickly rushed out to call the doctor. She didn't remember that there was a beeper in the ward. All she had to do was press it, and the doctor would have made his way to the room.
When she led the doctor to the ward, Huo Nanchen was lying motionlessly on the hospital bed. It seemed like what she had seen earlier had been an illusion.
"Nanchen?" Gu Ruochu walked towards the bed with a perplexed look on her face. She thought that he had simply fallen asleep. However, Huo Nachen did not move. Zhang Yuan stood still and did not know what to do.
"Young Madam, are you sure that your husband regained his consciousness?" The young male doctor asked after he performed a simple checkup on Huo Nanchen. "I don't see any signs to support your claims. Have you had any rest since you got here?"
Gu Ruochu turned to look at Zhang Yuan. Her eyes were full of hostility as she asked, "What's going on? Nanchen woke up a few moments ago. You saw it too, didn't you?"
Gu Ruochu shook Zhang Yuan's shoulders angrily. With a stunned look on her face, Zhang Yuan waved her hands and said slowly, "I don't know. He didn't open his eyes or say anything after you left."
Zhang Yuan had seen Huo Nanchen stirring on the bed, but it had only been for a moment.
A dreadful thought flashed across Zhang Yuan's mind. Perhaps he would never wake up again.
"That's impossible! I saw him open his eyes!" Gu Ruochu was certain. She looked at Zhang Yuan and asked suspiciously, "Did you do something to him?"
"Ruochu, how can you accuse your mother like that?" Zhang Yuan was on the verge of tears. However, Gu Ruochu was unconvinced by her sad act. It was not out of the question for Zhang Yuan to harm Huo Nanchen in her attempts to get some information about Ning Tangxi. She already looked tense. "What did you do to him? Tell me!"
"Young Madam, calm down."
The doctor stepped in and separated Gu Ruochu and Zhang Yuan. Gu Ruochu slumped back onto the chair beside Huo Nanchen's bed.
She had to keep her composure.
"Young Madam, you must be mentally prepared." The doctor paused before he continued, "Mr. Huo has been involved in two separate car accidents over the past month. I fear that his brain nerves are damaged, and he may never wake up again."
'Never wake up again! What does that mean?'
Gu Ruochu could not believe it. She had just seen Huo Nanchen wake up. He had held her hand and called out her name.
Lu Fang had also said that Huo Nanchen would not remain unconscious for long and that he would recover after receiving an infusion.
"Impossible! He will wake up."
Gu Ruochu did not know if she was refuting the doctor's assessment, or if she was assuring herself that Huo Nanchen would recover from his coma. She looked at his calm, sleeping face, and her heart thumped rapidly.
The doctor was used to dealing with families in a state of denial. He shook his head and left the ward, closing the door behind him. When he saw Lu Fang, he said calmly, "Doctor Lu, the Young Madam won't..."
"Yes. I know." Lu Fang opened the door and walked into the ward. He looked at Gu Ruochu with a heavy gaze. "Ruochu, you should be mentally prepared for anything."
Although Lu Fang's words were grim, Gu Ruochu did not want to believe him.
"It doesn't matter. He will definitely wake up."
"Ruochu, you're lying to yourself."
Zhang Yuan did not understand why Gu Ruochu was holding on to hope. She walked towards her and said, "The doctor has already said that there is a possibility that Huo Nanchen will not wake up."
"That's not true!"
"How can I lie to you? You heard what the doctor said."
