At that moment, Gu Ruochu was still leaning against Huo Nanchen in the living room. She had not yet recovered from the drama that the Ning family had caused. Even though Gu Ruochu was sleepy, she had a nagging feeling that something bad was about to happen.
Suddenly, the house phone rang. Gu Ruochu got up from the sofa to answer the call, but Huo Nanchen held her down and picked up the call himself.
After listening to the caller, Huo Nanchen hung up the phone. He then picked up Gu Ruochu from the sofa and said, "Let's go to the Ning family house. Your parents are fighting in the bedroom."
Gu Ruochu and Huo Nanchen rushed out and got into the car.
The housekeeper stood at the entrance of the Ning villa with her legs trembling. She was relieved when she saw Gu Ruochu. "Miss Ruochu, please go upstairs and take a look. I'm afraid one of them might die!"
Gu Ruochu tugged at Huo Nanchen's shirt as the housekeeper led the couple into the Ning family villa and upstairs to Zhang Yuan's bedroom door.
When Huo Nanchen saw that the door was locked, he asked Gu Ruochu to step back and kicked the door open.
The scene before them was frightening. Ning Tang had lost his mind. His eyes were bloodshot, and he was strangling Zhang Yuan's neck. Zhang Yuan was lying helplessly on the floor. Her eyes were pale and lifeless.
"Is she dead? Why aren't you pulling them away?"
The housekeeper charged into the room and held Ning Tang down. Gu Ruochu and Huo Nanchen rushed to Zhang Yuan's side and carried her out. They helped her into their car and drove off to the hospital.
Soon, Ning Tangxi and Ning Zongxuan followed the couple and arrived at the hospital.
"It's all your fault. If it weren't for you, this wouldn't have happened to our family!" Ning Tangxi roared at Gu Ruochu. Ning Zongxuan stood by his sister and looked at Gu Ruochu accusingly.
Gu Ruochu did not want to argue with them. Instead, she sat quietly on the bench in the hospital's corridor.
"Why are you sitting here alone?" Huo Nanchen came over from the doctor's office and sat beside her.
"It's nothing." Gu Ruochu did not make eye contact with Huo Nanchen.
Even though they had their differences, Gu Ruochu was still worried about Zhang Yuan.
"Mother, you're finally awake!" Ning Tangxi's surprised voice rang out. Gu Ruochu got up and saw Ning Tangxi and Ning Zongxuan standing by Zhang Yuan's bedside.
Zhang Yuan held them in her arms and wept silently. She looked like a loving mother comforting her children Gu Ruochu suddenly froze at the door. She did not have the courage to get into the ward.
Gu Ruochu did not have the same relationship with Zhang Yuan that Ning Tangxi and Ning Zongxuan had.
At that moment, Gu Ruochu felt that everything was meaningless.
She was upset and hung her head low. If she walked into the room, she would only ruin the atmosphere between Zhang Yuan and her children.
Huo Nanchen placed his hand on her shoulder and whispered, "It's almost eleven o'clock. Let me drive you home so that you can get some sleep."
For Gu Ruochu, the day had been like a roller coaster. She needed to get some rest.
"Okay. Let's go home." Gu Ruochu buried her face into Huo Nanchen's shoulder and felt at ease. He was the only person who truly cared about her.
With Huo Nanchen by her side, she felt safe. He would always protect her.
"All right. You will forever be my treasure. No one can take you away from me," Huo Nanchen said in a relaxed manner, and a smile formed on Gu Ruochu's face. She then pushed him away. "What nonsense are you spouting!"
Ning Tangxi saw Gu Ruochu standing outside the ward, and she purposely hugged Zhang Yuan tighter. She had been by Zhang Yuan's side for more than twenty years. Ning Tangxi knew that her mother would never abandon her.
Even after the truth had been revealed, Gu Ruochu was still the unwanted one. So what if she was Zhang Yuan's biological child?
Huo Nanchen held Gu Ruochu's hand tightly, and they left the hospital. Even though she was disappointed, she remained calm throughout the drive back home.
