"Why did you run away?" Huo Nanchen hugged her tightly. "Why are you always so willful? Nothing happened."
Nothing happened? How could it be nothing? Ning Tangxi had dragged Xu Yichen into prison.
"Can you let Xu Yichen go? Can you ask Ning Tangxi to drop the lawsuit? This matter has nothing to do with him." The look in her eyes was no longer gentle. Instead, it was stern and cold.
"I asked him to do everything. If it wasn't for me, he wouldn't have hurt that child. If you want to blame someone, blame me. I won't say a single word. If Ning Tangxi wants her revenge, send me over to take his place in prison."
Huo Nanchen's heart tightened, and he swallowed the words that he was about to say. Could it be that in her heart, he was no longer worthy of the slightest bit of trust?
"Gu Ruochu, do you know what you're talking about?"
His fingers caressed her eyes and his cold eyes were filled with ridicule as he spoke in a low voice, "You almost cried. Are you sure you want to cry for another man in front of your husband? I remember that you hate to cry. Weren't you tough with all the people who accused you before?"
"You can think whatever you want. I'm really tired." She was tired of their relationship. She could not protect her friends, much less her marriage to Huo Nanchen.
"You're tired?" His voice rang out gently, mixed with sarcasm. "I guess you'll bring up the divorce next, right?"
"If it was Xu Yichen, he would not have let me suffer this kind of injustice."
Gu Ruochu did not know why, but she suddenly blurted out those words, causing Huo Nanchen's expression to turn even uglier. Under the dim light, his chest rose and fell rapidly. His eyes had never been so cold.
"You... What do you mean? Are you unhappy being by my side?"
"Huo Nanchen, I believe that you have feelings for me. But you have too many people to protect. We will always end up in embarrassing situations, just like now."
She scoffed at him as her eyes drifted off into the distance like a woman in a sour love story.
"Actually, I don't blame you. I blame the awkward situation we are in. This is a huge joke played by the heavens. Nonetheless, I won't let Yichen go to jail, even if it means giving up my life."
She missed her old life.
They were not from the same world. Under normal circumstances, they would never have met. However, fate had brought them together.
Unfortunately, Huo Nanchen could not understand.
"Gu Ruochu..." Huo Nanchen gritted his teeth. The pain in her eyes was heart-wrenching.
"You should go back. I want to be alone. Don't worry, I'll be fine." Gu Ruochu did not even look at him as she turned around and left.
He did not follow her.
The night gradually fell. Gu Ruochu did not know for how long she had been walking. Finally, she sat down on a bench by the side of the road.
"Ruochu, where are you?"
The person on the phone was Chu Xinlan. She sounded anxious.
"I'm near a shopping mall. Did something happen?"
"No, Yichen was released by the police. I'm at the hospital with him now. Do you want to come over?"
'Xu Yichen has been released?'
When Gu Ruochu heard this, her entire being came alive. "Which hospital are you at? Tell me the address and I'll be there right away."
Chu Xinlan finally had the mood to joke after she had given her the address. "Mrs. Huo, your charm cannot be underestimated."
