"With a few friends." Huo Nanchen did not specify who they were, but Gu Ruochu did not ask further.
'With a few friends?' That meant that he was not alone.
"I didn't call earlier to find out where you were." Gu Ruochu subconsciously hid her scalded hand. She had actually called, but he had kept his phone switched off.
'Forget it, I won't bring trouble upon myself.'
She did not question him any more. Huo Nanchen furrowed his brows and looked at her. He could not tell what emotions were on her face. Gu Ruochu's heart trembled when she saw this and she closed her eyes.
Huo Nanchen did not say anything. He remembered how she behaved when he first saw her.
She was quiet, obedient, and sensible.
Now that he looked at her, he realized that she was so dazzling.
"..."
At night, almost everyone had gathered. Mrs. Huo and Old Lady Huo had returned from the temple. Even Huo Zijun, who had previously been nowhere to be found, was at home.
Huo Nanchen glanced at him and his eyes darkened. "Why didn't you continue to stay in the Southern Hemisphere? I thought you would never dare to come back."
He had never thought that Huo Zijun would drug him for no reason.
"Sister-in-law, how could you bear to leave me alone in the Southern Hemisphere?" Huo Zijun asked with a smile.
Although there were still some unresolved feelings between them, Huo Zijun's joke broke the deadlock between them.
Huo Nanchen restrained himself and decided to let his brother off the hook.
"Oh! One look and I can tell that it's Nanny Zhang's cooking. It's so delicious!" Huo Zijun cried like a silly husky. After spending so many days in the wild, he had come back hoping that his brother's anger had cooled down.
Gu Ruochu looked at the two brothers curiously.
At the table, Old Lady Huo seemed to be in an exceptionally good mood. She even assisted Gu Ruochu in setting the table.
On her visit to the temple, she had made a wish. She had specially arranged her birth characters for Gu Ruochu and Huo Nanchen. Only then did she realize that her grand-daughter-in-law was destined to be extraordinary. Most importantly, she would bring happiness to her grandson.
Many years ago, a Great Master had said that her grandson was filled with a vicious aura. Unless he met a noble lady, he would be destined to die alone.
Old Lady Huo had always been superstitious, so her impression of Gu Ruochu had deepened after she married her grandson.
"Come, let's eat a little more, Ruochu."
"Thank you, grandmother."
Although the old lady had always treated her fairly well, she was not a warm-hearted person. Gu Ruochu's heart questioned her new attitude.
Old Lady Huo continued to serve food to Gu Ruochu's plate but she was too embarrassed to remind her. She really could not eat that much.
"Ruochu, has Nanchen been bullying you recently?"
"No, he's been very good to me."
Upon hearing this, Huo Nanchen deliberately glanced sideways at her as if he was trying to tell if she was sincere or just perfunctory.
"Really? Don't lie to me. If he dares to bully you, I will definitely help you teach him a good lesson." Old Lady Huo looked like a cute little child.
Huo Nanchen smiled faintly. "Grandma, if you don't believe my words, you should believe my wife's words. I plan to watch the sunrise with Ruochu in the next few days."
"Watch the sunrise? It can't be that famous phantom in Nan Cheng? Is it?" Huo Zijun's eyes turned into crescent moons. "That's good. It's quite romantic. Brother, you've finally understood."
The phantom was the most famous sunrise point in Nan Cheng. It was a beautiful and civilized place.
Gu Ruochu looked over in surprise and happened to meet his eyes. A bright ray of light rose from within her pitch-black eyes.
