Chapter 4 - Mary´s Case 2

Daft left that local cafeteria with two coffees in hand, one black, natural, as he liked and another that was mocha, destined for his partner. He entered in the police station, simple and modest, it was not very large and did not contain any cells, only on the bottom were the cubicles and lockers of the vast majority of agents they had in Ember City, and on the top, there was only one Interrogation room and the private room of the detectives, on his way to the private room, Detective Daft greeted all the agents he found on his way until he reached the stairs, when he entered, he walk his way directly without delay, he opened the door and only could see Raisel lying on that old sofa, covering his eyes with his arm, the detective approached the table in the center of the room and left Raisel's coffee there, while he went to the desk to sit and have a little of his coffee, facing his student, he look at him with a little concern, from the other side of the room Daft spoke.

"Wake up Raisel… there is work to do"

The old detective said, while Raisel upon hearing those words just let out a great sigh, taking his arm out of his eyes and while sitting on the couch he commented.

"There is always work ..."

He said without encouragement and in a low voice, but loud enough for Daft to listen to him, Raisel took his coffee, and only had him in his hands, thinking about the case and how things didn't look good, Loose could barely keep his optimism, Detective Daft upon noticing this, leaned a little on the desk and told his partner.

"We will solve this ... as always"

Raisel got annoyed, left his coffee on the table and quickly got up from the sofa, Daft was a little surprised by the detective's reaction, making him withdraw from his desk and leaning on the back of the chair he was in, Raisel then started.

"No, no, no!…"

He said as he raised his voice more and began to numb his arms tightly.

"This is not as usual! ... this son of a bitch killed someone and that makes him different from all the cases we have done so far! … "

Shouted the young man staring at Daft, clenching his teeth and clenching his fists while breathing quickly.

"And then ... somehow ... it took away ... the only weapon we ... we had"

The young man said as he looked down, his anger turned into frustration and despair when he remembered that the killer had seriously injured the most important skill of those detectives, not having a nexus to work with, making the young man feel helpless, I felt it was useless, that they weren't going to be able to stop that murderer. Daft, still surprised by everything Raisel had in store, got up from that chair and took Raisel by the shoulders.

"I know boy! ... we are full of shit up to the neck ... but ... as I see it, we are the only two who have a chance to stop that maniac... if we collapse ... Who will catch that shameless man? "

He speaks with a firm voice, causing Loose to awaken a little, Raisel still was feeling insecure and hopeless, but at least he gave him a reason to fight and move on, he as his mentor could see that they are the most likely of finding something that leads them in the right direction.

"Well ... all we can do is wait now ... I want to talk to Veronica"

The old detective said as he sat back down on the desk chair, drinking his coffee again and giving him a big drink.

"The coroner? ... do you think she will tells us something we don't know now?"

Said the young disbeliever, grabbing his coffee again and holding it in his hands, Daft getting comfortable answered his student.

"Appearances deceive Raisel ... she may be the key we need"

Then he took a big sip of his coffee, tilting it so much that it was obvious to Raisel that he had finished it, he still had doubts, saw his coffee and took a small drink and then left it again on the table and lay back on the sofa, however, both still feeling great pressure inside.

While both detectives waited for some kind of miracle, somewhere in Ember City, that heartless man prowled, in the shadows he walked thinking about his next steps, muttering to himself.

"Mmm ... the first hit was a success if ... yes ..."

He said as he thought, moving from side to side in that place where no one could saw him.

"Now ... my bon ami must be thinking about what to do ..."

He raised one of his hands, as he looked at it suddenly, closed his fist and began using his fingers to count.

"First ... I killed my victim ... that was good ... excellent ... almost cozy ... if you will ..."

He let out a laugh slightly as his cheeks stretched marking his smile.

"I covered everything with the anti-nexus liquid ... Ha!"

He laughed loudly, laughing at his word juice.

"Now ... third ... decide who will be next ..."

He said as he calmed down his laughter, even letting out a little of that laugh, he turned and rounded in that dark place. Meanwhile, a policeman arrived at the detective's office, where they rested, somehow, waiting for news from the coroner, the officer knocks on the door, both detectives were alerted and turned to see, Raisel got up from the sofa, complaining a little to open the door, when opened the officer entered and gave his announcement.

"Detectives! The coroner sends me, she has her first report ready "

Detective Daft got up from his seat, thanking the officer and telling Loose that it was time to leave, the three left the office, while the two detectives returned to their car, the officer would stay at the police station, Daft started the car and the accelerator floor to advance and go directly to the morgue where Veronica worked.

The young man, who still did not understand why his teacher was so eager to hear that Mary had died from a fall a few hours ago, replied a little anguished.

"I don't understand the rush ... it won't tell us anything we don't know already"

Detective Daft was still focused on the road, although he felt annoyed at Loose's innocence by not seeing that he could release Veronica's analysis, however, he knew he was young and relatively new as a detective, so he just kept silent and Get as quickly as possible with the coroner.

Arriving, Detective Daft hurried down from the car, while the young detective followed him slowly, staying behind, however, they had already visited Veronica before, so he knew the path he should take.

Rasiel greeted the lady who was in the front and continued to walk to that cold and dark room where that black-haired coroner worked, as she approached she could hear how Detective Daft was discussing with her about some things, however, he could not tell what they were talking about, the young man being in front of the door entered and listened to his mentor.

"So ... if the fall didn't kill her ... what was it?"

Hearing that, the young man was surprised, almost opened his mouth in amazement, since he did not see that this possibility was a reality, Veronica gave notice of the arrival of the young man and greeted him.

"Loose ... do you still play as a detective?"

The woman said with a mocking tone, while Loose hid her surprise simulating a serious face, Daft began reading Veronica's report to let the two talk, in addition to wanting to know what else she had discovered about Mary's murder.

"You are wrong V ... I am the most capable to solve the case ..."

Said the detective, trying to sound sure of himself, however, the coroner had noticed the face of the young detective upon entering the room, still mocking him and letting out a few laughs between his words she replied to the detective.

"Yes ... of course ... I noticed that when you entered ... your deductions have no comparison"

The detective only frowned a little, while Veronica laughed a little, to break the tension he said softly.

"Come on ... you know I'm just joking"

"Yes ... I know V ... let's see what you found"

The detective said as he approached his mentor, who had already finished reading Veronica's report, which she noticed, she went and say.

"Do you want to explain it? ... or do I?"

Detective Daft saw Veronica with a smile, it seemed that as he told her partner earlier, she had given him the necessary information to continue his investigation, after a moment he continued.

"I'll take care of putting the boy up to date ..."

The old man said, while Veronica began to collect some of the things, Loose had not realized that Mary was there at the operating table, turned to see the body of that woman, however, Detective Daft took him by the shoulder, Loose when he saw his mentor came back to himself and prepared to listen to everything, took out his notebook and pen, his companion began.

"Very well ... Veronica already performed a quick autopsy, I´ll take the obvious out of the way... hmmm... fractured ribs, spine, femur, and so on ... due to the fall ... however ... her analysis shows that Mary died the night before her fall ... what is suspected that his cause of death was another ... "

The young, surprised detective kept pointing everything in his notebook, while his Master kept explaining.

"The cause of death does not seem to be physical ... there are no cuts ... no stabs ... nothing ... so we do not even know the cause of death ..."

Said the detective as he walked towards the wall near the exit, Loose finished making his final notes in his notebook, after finishing I keep everything and started talking.

"I ... I'm sorry ... I didn't know ..."

He said as Veronica approached behind him, took him by the shoulder and said softly.

"You did not do anything wrong ... I also saw it and deduced the same ... but you must always be sure Loose ..."

When he said that, he let go of his shoulder and continued to keep Mary's body ... it was there when both detectives saw each other, now they had another goal, to return to that apartment and discover what happened to that woman the night before the day of his death.
