Inside the library was mountain high stacks of books. It was a dusty space, obviously rarely used. It was stifling to breathe in the ungodly amount of dust that she consumed with each small breath in the room.
It made sense since she had been away at school for so long and this mansion was basically vacant except for the maids.
Bai Chen covered her mouth and ran to the closest window. It was large, fitting the huge library and covered in dust, it had a yellowy tint, probably from its neglect. She sat on her knees atop the large window sill and tried to push the window open. The latch was difficult to open so Bai Chen pushed her whole body weight onto the thing. Finally the window opened. Bai Chen's face had turned a dull red from the dust and holding her breath. Finally, she could take a breath of fresh air.
Unfortunately, in Bai Chen's moment of relief, she had used too much of her body weight to push, leading to her falling out the window.
WHAT?
Bai Chen grasped the window latch and held on for her life. This was the second story and this body of hers only had so much strength.
She may have wanted some fresh air, but this much was a bit overboard...
She looked down. The only thing to soften her fall was a bush.
Bai Chen felt her arm giving in.
"Ummm. Lucy! Lucy! Help!" Her voice was wobbly with fear.
Lucy looked in the library entrance. She wasn't sure if she heard her mistress or not. No one was in there so how could she think she heard a voice? Lucy thought she was going crazy... Lucy turned back around.
Wait... Nobody in there?
She spun her head around. "Miss!"
Bai Chen's hand began to sweat and loosen around the latch. "Help!"
Lucy turned and ran to the open window. She knew she wasn't allowed in this room but it wasn't the time to think about such pleasantries, her miss was in danger.
"Miss!" Lucy pulled Bai Chen's arm up and pulled the top half of her body onto the window sill, her legs still dangling out of the window. Fortunately she had enough clothes to not be wearing a dress right now or else her underwear would be exposed to all the gardeners who looked on with concern.
Bai Chen put all four of her ligaments on the floor. She wanted to feel the ground, feel gravity holding her down.
Lucy looked down at her miss and seeing that she was okay, quickly sped out of the room.
Grasping a sense of security on the floor, Bai Chen lifted her head to look at and thank her saviour....
....But the girl was gone.
Huh?
Bai Chen slowly got up off her hands and searched around the room for her maid, finally finding Lucy at the door.
Before she could talk, Lucy bowed in apology, "i'm sorry miss, maids are not allowed inside the library.
No wonder this place was so dusty, Bai Chen thought.
Bai Chen felt grateful. The girl didn't have to break a rule but she did for Bai Chen. She patted Lucy on the shoulder. "No worries." She smiled, "Come to think of it, I never even saw you in the room to begin with." She said to her maid, "As long as you forget the incident I'll forget it too."
Continuing her talk with Lucy in her room, Bai Chen found out that apparently maids weren't allowed to go into this room even to clean. No one knew why.
It made Bai Chen wonder, who were Lily's parents? She knew nothing from the game but Bai Chen expected that since the game storyline was so extremely lack lustre that Lily would not have much of a background. She expected that Lily would have two happily married parents to fit the game's boring concept.
Bai Chen asked Lcuy to leave her room for a while.
She lied down on her bed with her arms extended to each side. Bai Chen almost hoped that Lily didn't have the best relationship with her parents since she had no clue how to act with family. In her previous life, Bai Chen's relationship with her parents, although living together was almost nonexistent.
The words 'mum' and 'dad' weren't anything more than pleasantries with her parents. Unlike norma families, except for special occasions they would rarely even eat dinner together. Thinking about it made Bai Chen feel restless so she hopped off her bed and decided to sew.
