I never thought in a million years that I would be walking to the office of the chairman of Cruz Enterprise, let alone working as his secretary. Don't get me wrong, I am super grateful, but I did not think that with my experience and resume that I would be where I am now.
I knocked on Chairman Cruz's office and peered into the glass door. He motioned for me to come in. I took a deep breathe and put on my best smile.
I open the door and say with a smile, "You wanted to see me sir?" I take a couple steps forward and scan the room. It is very similar to mine, but twice as big. His desk is massive with three monitors and a sleek keyboard. He has books shelves filled with various books and awards of some sort. I am assuming the medals are for the company.
"Are you done looking around?" He says as he stares at me. He lifts his right eyebrow to question me. "Please sit." He motions for me to sit in one of the chairs in front of his desk.
"U-uh yes. Sorry sir!" I say and quickly take a seat.
"Here is my file on my preferences to how I like my paperwork to be organized. I have also included how my day looks on a daily basis and an updated version of my schedule. There is also a small menu of my preference in food and how I like my coffee. Please review everything and have it all memorized. I will give you two days to get it all down and give you two chances. You make take your leave." He says and does a shoo motion with his right hand. I am taken aback and don't know how to respond.
"Is there anything you still need? If not, please leave. I am a very busy man. Please come back with my afternoon coffee at 1 o' clock." He says and turns his head to his computer.
"R-r-right sir. I will get right on it. Thank you again for this opportunity! Thank you again for choosing me to be your secretary! Please call me Reilynn, and don't hesitate to ask if you need anything." I stammer and get up to leave.
"Don't disappoint me Ms. Sanchez. I chose you for a reason. I am looking forward to working with you. Welcome to Cruz Enterprise." He says indifferently without lifting his gaze from his computer screen.
I smile at him and take my leave. I cross the mini lobby and walk back to my office. "He chose me for a reason? What reason could that be? I am not even impressive." I thought to myself. Ms. Baker is not in my office when I get back and decide to take a seat at my desk. I am so excited and want to explore everything in my office, but decide to get to work on my boss's information.
This guy is no joke. He is really organized and has everything perfectly planned out. His meetings are spaced out and he even has time in his schedule for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This guy is absolutely nuts. I start to take note of his menu and this guy eats food that cost more than my rent. I check my watch and realize that it is only 10 o' clock. I better get my computer set up. I set up my account and see that all the files are neatly organized already and that the schedule is opened for me to see. "Alright, he has no meetings today. But he does have a video chat conference with our partners from Canada in thirty minutes. Should I walk over there and let him know or does he already know?" I think to myself. Before I think of a response my phone rings. I check to see who it is. It's Ms. Baker.
"Hi Ms. Baker! I have set up my computer and got Chairman's files. Is there anything I can do for you?" I say as I scroll through Chairman Cruz's menu.
"I just want to let you know that Chairman Cruz wants you to personally come to his office every morning to recite what his schedule is before. You will do the same after lunch as well on what he has for the rest of the day. You can remind him of meetings and calls through the intercom. For meetings, make sure you are in his office twenty minutes before the meeting starts and remind him." I jot down as much information as I can. This is so overwhelming. "Good luck Reilynn. I am rooting for you." She says and hangs up before I can even respond.
"Well alright then." I say and take a really big breath in. I press the intercom button on my desk and hear a beep.
"Sir, you have a video chat conference with your partners from Canada in twenty minutes." I say and let go of the button.
"Okay." He replies. "That's it? No thank you? Kinda rude if you ask me. I reminded you of something. You aren't even going to appreciate that?" I say in my head.
I turn around and look at the display screen behind me. It covers one fourth of my wall. "What is this screen for?" I touch it and it turns on. The screen displays the Chairman's schedule. "Oh wow, I need his schedule on my wall too?" I sit back down in my chair and realize that there is a small drawer compartment. There is no handle so I push on it and it automatically opens. There is a slim iPad in there. I take it out and tap on it. It says my name on it. I set up my iPad and notice that Chairman's schedule is on here too. All of the files on my computer are also on here. "Maybe so that I have everything on the go?" I think to myself. I busy myself and try to understand his schedules. I check my email and see that there a bunch of companies emailing requesting to schedule meetings. I starting calling them and adding them onto the schedule. I even have to update their contact information on the company's files. I was so focused on work and then out of nowhere I heard the intercom beep.
"Go to lunch." I hear. I look up and see Chairman Cruz walk out of his office. I look at the time and see that it is indeed 12 o'clock already. I go to my bag and get my lunch out. Derek packed me a bento box with bulgogi, a portion of rice, and pickled vegetables. He placed a couple chocolate chip cookies in a separate contain. Not only does my boy friend cook, but he bakes and I couldn't be more grateful. I am full on smiling by the time I pull out my phone to video chat with him.
"Hi baby! How is work so far? Your boss isn't a jerk is he? Hey, why are you smiling like that?" He says from the phone.
"Hi babe! Thank you for the food! It looks amazing! I am really lucky to have you!" I say.
"It's nothing really babe. It's your first day of work. You need the brain food." He says while he is munching on his food. "Anyways, how is your day going so far? You made it in time right?"
"I did! Work is low key stressful. I am already doing so much emailing and calling. Look at my office baby. It is so nice and huge. There is so much high techie stuff. I am still getting used to everything." I say as I show him my office.
"Woah babe! The finance department is no joke. It looks like you are living the life." He says very intrigued.
"No baby. This isn't the finance department. Apparently I am now the secretary for the chairman of the company. I work in the executive department," I say as I start eating.
"What! No fricken way! How did you do it babe?! No offense, but you aren't that prestigious. I thought that you interviewed for the finance department?" He said. I could tell that he was really interested in my story.
"I did, but apparently Chairman Cruz picked me himself. I didn't ask questions because I don't want to get fired on the first day." I said as I wave my fork at the camera.
"Alright baby. We will talk more at home. I have to go," Derek says. "I love you!" and then he hangs up. I didn't even get to say I love you back.
I finish up my food and did some research on Chairman Cruz. "Only child to the Cruz family. Chairman or executive president to Cruz Enterprise. Number one bachelor of the business world. Forbes top ten in riches man in the world. Wow this guy is stacked." I say to myself.
