SQUEEEAAAAK!!!
The magic beast cried out shrilly as the attacks from Roxanne and Vars hit it from both sides. Significant damage was definitely done from that attack.
Roxanne and Vars didn't stay to savor their success and instantly ran off after shaking off the effect the screech had on their ears.
Someone suddenly shouted. "Everybody retreat quickly! The magic beast is behaving too weirdly!"
Rastel who had just recovered and was still massaging his head to wear off the damage suddenly lifted his head and looked at the magic beast.
It was covered in a layer of purple lightning as thick as mud and it was so dense that the magic beast could barely be seen within it at all. Countless stray bolts were firing off haphazardly and it seemed the last attack had tipped the beast's sanity.
This was the first month of the blood moon and the blood moon had been shining its light brightly throughout the course of the fight. Although Rastel had no idea at this point, the fact was that this magic beast had gone berserk!
Alarm bells rang loudly within his head and without even thinking about it, he waved his hands and launched his spells.
BAM! BAM!! BAM!!!
Earth walls tore out of the ground like water geysers shooting out and surrounded the magic beast in multiple layers.
SQUEEAAAAK!!!
CRACK! BOOM!!!
The numerous earth walls shattered like glass in the face of the sheer mana density surrounding the magic beast. Rastel was alarmed but he gritted his teeth and continued creating more while slowly retreating.
He felt like the moment he let this magic beast have free rein to attack them, they would definitely all die!
The others hadn't hesitated and had run far off a long time ago.
Casting frantically, countless earth walls rose and he mixed in a few water shields in between them to try and restrict the stray lightning firing off the magic beast. And each second, countless earth walls and water shields kept getting destroyed almost as soon as they popped up.
The rest of the team had already retreated far away and were looking at the scene in awe. It looked like some high-level battle between two powerful combatants who were fighting for supremacy. The only thing was, one was using dangerous explosives to bombard the other who was busy going around with numerous wooden shields.
It left them with a strange feeling.
Rastel was desperately casting spells with squinted eyes. At this point, he was sure that this battle was a lost cause and there was nothing more they could do. No one could approach the magic beast in this situation.
Roxanne was looking at the battle from a distance away together with the rest. Looking at the situation, she suddenly frowned deeply.
"Rastel is in trouble."
"What?" Vars was alarmed and he looked ready to jump back.
"Hold it there, little viper. What are you doing now?" Baluu was quick and grabbed his collar before he went far.
"Let me go Baluu. Rastel is in danger!" Vars struggled with him.
"I know that but what do you want to do about it? Kill yourself?" Baluu felt a little troubled about Vars's character now.
Although it was somewhat commendable, throwing your life away for someone else was not something he agreed with.
"He is no longer in the array. His mana would easily get depleted and he won't be able to protect himself long enough to retreat. We need to find a way to save him." Roxanne was looking grave.
Hearing that, the rest of the team started hesitating.
They were actually feeling bad as it was Rastel's actions that had allowed them to retreat unscathed and he had also saved each one of them multiple times as the battle was going on but they couldn't bring themselves to rush head on into something that dangerous to try and save him.
Looking at the reluctant faces of those around, Roxanne couldn't help but show a wry smile.
'Of course, that would be too much to ask.' She knew that there was no way these people would definitely agree to this.
Vars who also saw this gritted his teeth angrily and yelled at them.
"COWARDS!"
And the worst situation really happened.
Just a few seconds after Roxanne made her judgment, Rastel tried to create an earth wall after one had just shattered only to see his spell wasn't reacting. Immediately he saw this happen, he didn't need his interface to tell him that he was out of mana.
'Who did I offend in my past life!?' he was taken by surprise as he suddenly felt the danger.
He had gotten used to the enormous mana pool the array offered him that he had forgotten that mana could actually finish. And finish it did.
'This is the first time I actually ran out of mana in the middle of a battle. Isn't the mage class a little too unreliable like this?'
But he didn't have the time to think too much. Facing the danger in front of him, he was already preparing to make a run for it and jump over the battlement to the town below.
'Even if the chances are slim, I can probably still survive, maybe.'
But before he could even move, he suddenly saw something move from the corner of his eye. Following it, he saw a bloody earthen spear appear above the location of the magic beast pointing downwards.
Although the spear was covered in blood, it still didn't hide the elegance of its design and shape. With a long slender shaft covered in carvings and a broad blade, it looked both beautiful and dangerous at the same time.
Within the cover of lightning, a pair of red eyes appeared and stared upward at the earthen spear. Although the magic beast was now in a state of half madness, it still felt apprehension when it looked at that spear.
"What is that spear?" Among the group, someone also noticed the spear and they all looked upwards with curiosity.
Without wasting time, the spear plunged with great momentum.
PEW!
The air whistled as it stabbed down towards the magic beast with a blur.
SQUEEAK!!
Although the magic beast was wary, it wouldn't easily accept death like that and released a thick swarm of lightning upwards to destroy the spear!
CRACK!! BLZZT!
The burst of lightning was easily scattered by the spear as it plunged itself into the core of the lightning without any pause.
Rastel who was watching this scene with awe suddenly felt a sense of déjà vu and subconsciously raised his hands to cover his ears.
The rest of the group all also did the same. This was an instinctual reaction from trying to avoid damage. The only person who didn't was probably only Whitesoul, this fellow was still staring up at the spear with interest.
But the expected screech didn't come. It was just silence.
Rastel raised his head to look at the thick layers of lightning that had started dissipating with a lingering buzz. It didn't take long for the still body of the magic beast to appear on the floor, the earth spear having speared right through its head.
The entire section of the wall was quiet as they looked at the dead body of the magic beast and although nobody said it, a sense of defeat overcame them all.
We have been fighting for so long, suffering painful injuries, attacking so viciously, and only doing such limited damage and a random spear just appears out of nowhere and finishes the job in one hit? And what's more, such a powerful foe was even just an overgrown rat.
I don't want to do it again!
Give me back my effort!
"Haaaaaaah..." Rastel let out a long breath, stretched his body with his hands high up, and let himself fall to the ground.
THUD!
His eyes flickered as he looked up silently at the blood moon that was still looking ever so ominous. He was very tired!
"You guys did an excellent job, really worth commending. The town of Eadon really has some commendable seeds." A slightly jovial voice suddenly called out.
At this moment, everyone's eyes jointly twitched.
'This guy…'
The person that was speaking was naturally Sacha, the archmage. Although now, the respect they had for this high and mighty archmage had been completely wiped clean and was now replaced with resentment.
'Why didn't you do that earlier!' many of them complained in their minds.
The last spear attack was obviously done by this grinning archmage who was silently stroking his mustache. But although they were dissatisfied with him, no one dared speak up.
Rastel tilted his head and saw the satisfied expression on Sacha's face as he stroked his mustache and silently promised himself.
'I am going to shave off that mustache one day.'
A figure suddenly covered his sight and he looked up to see Vars looking down at him with concern.
"Are you alright?" Vars asked him lightly.
"I could use a few days' sleep." Rastel smiled back at him.
Honestly, he just wanted to find a safe place to log out so that he could go and comfort himself properly outside the game.
This battle was too much! Much more tense that his battle with the necromancer back then.
"Me two." A soft voice came from beside him and Roxanne appeared.
She first sat on the floor before laying down beside him and stretching deeply. Looking at her tight leather clothes that didn't really cover all of her skin, Rastel instantly turned his gaze so as not to be caught staring.
'I seem to forget she is a legit babe sometimes.' He sighed in his mind.
Not long after, Baluu also came up quietly and sat down, resting his back and his club on the battlements. Seeing everybody relaxed, Vars sat down also.
They stayed like that for a moment, all with their own thoughts.
"That was too much pressure…..." Rastel suddenly started speaking.
"Agreed!" A unified answer came back at him instantly.
