Chapter 94 - Old Ferud

The brown-haired man didn't stay long. He turned around and floated off on the platform, disappearing behind Eadon's walls soon enough.

"Who is that guy?" Redbone swallowed hard as he watched his retreating view.

Everyone else was also curious as to the identity of the powerful figure that just appeared. Taking care of such powerful berserk beasts with one hit, he definitely wasn't a simple unknown person.

"There can only be one person who would be that strong around Eadon." Erik said gravely.

As somebody with ambition who wanted to create a guild, his network and intelligence were not small. He knew much better than the average person on such important matters.

The rest of the group turned to face him with gazes that begged for answers. Although he already had his own guesses, Rastel also waited to hear his answer.

"The town lord of Eadon, Alera Tarmal." Erik said this with a bit of reverence in his eyes.

This was the first time he had seen someone this strong taking action and it left his blood boiling in anticipation.

When could he become this strong?

Gasps of realization and admiration came out from the members of the group. This made sense, only someone this strong can become the lord of an entire town.

Rastel also nodded to himself. In this world where danger was everywhere, only the strong could say they were in charge of any land.

If the ruler was weak and ended up being assassinated in his sleep then wouldn't that be a joke? How could people feel safe like that?

Now that the danger was over, they quickly hurried over and reached Eadon. Although they didn't feel there was any more danger, the distress from just a few minutes ago wouldn't just disappear.

They were eager to go back to town and relax their tense nerves. Some even wanted to log out.

But as they entered through Eadon's gates, a mission notification flashed through all their interfaces.

EMERGENCY QUEST!

TOWN DEFENSE – RANK B

THE TOWN OF EADON IS ABOUT TO FALL UNDER THE ATTACK OF A BERSERK BEAST HORDE! JOIN THE TOWN'S TROOPS TO DEFEND THE TOWN FROM THE ATTACKS OF THE BERSERK BEASTS.

REWARD: 20,000 EXP

'Well.... damn' Rastel's eyes widened as he saw the reward.

'I can level up multiple times with this!' he was getting excited from the sight of the reward.

Similar thoughts were going through the minds of the others. A rank B mission was hard to come across and the reward was outrageous. There was no way they were passing this up.

Looking up, Rastel saw that the town was busy, the town's guards were moving up and down the walls and dealing with equipment.

There were a lot of players going around doing small tasks and quests related to the rank B quest and there were mercenaries from the mercenary association even lending a hand.

Everyone was up and about to deal with the potential threat.

Quickly saying goodbye to the rest of the group, he headed towards the Vulcan smithery.

The doors automatically opened up for him and as soon as he entered the hall, he saw grandmaster Vulcan together with the yellow-robed mage discussing with another person who he quickly recognized as the long-haired man that killed the two berserk beasts.

They were discussing in soft voices and completely ignored Rastel.

Trying not to disturb them, he quietly entered the corridor that led inside the building. After walking for a few seconds, he met Lolo who was happy to see him come back safe.

The bal led him towards a large courtyard in the building.

"Vars and the little cutie are feeding old Ferud his meal. Now don't be rude to old Ferud, he has a fickle temper."

Lolo was as talkative as always. As he led Rastel to the courtyard, he kept digging his hand into the large apron's pockets and taking out ore to shove into his mouth.

Rastel thought the ore looked suspiciously similar to the yenite ores that grandmaster Vulcan was chastising him for eating on the day they arrived.

When they reached the courtyard, Rastel was first astounded by how vast the place was. he still hadn't seen around the smithery from the outside but he was sure it wasn't this large. There was definitely some space trick being used here.

There were three different groups of trees with different characteristics at different corners of the courtyard, there was a small stream that cut the entire courtyard in two and a small wooden bridge was laid across.

All the trees were on the other side of the stream while the side in front of him was a vast grassy plain.

The second large thing that surprised him was the figure of the large eagle-like beast that was perched on a giant furnace that stood in a corner of the grassy plain.

The eagle had shiny golden brown feathers and a beak that looked like polished silver. Its sharp light-yellow eyes with black flecks had a ferocious glint in them that made Rastel want to take a step back.

From where the bird was perched, he had the feeling that he was looking up at a three-floored building in both height and width.

It was too large!

'This bird doesn't lose out in size to that beast that was just killed moments ago.' He thought to himself as he looked up in awe.

The beast's head snapped towards them when they entered and eyes Rastel suspiciously.

"Kriek! Sneaky muan! What are you looking for eh? Never seen such a magnificent bird in all your life?" the bird eyed his figure up and down.

'Wait...… what?' another wave of shock hit him.

'This bloody bird can talk!'

"Hero!" He heard Myra's voice just before he saw her bounding up to give him a hug.

"You like hugs way too much." He murmured as he patted her back.

'Wait that isn't important right now, the bird can talk!' he screamed in his mind.

Myra jumped down and looked at him excitedly.

"Come and see, Hero. It is a valiant warrior eagle!" she skipped as she pulled him closer to the bird which had now ignored him.

"Is that what it is called?" he murmured in disbelief as he looked up at the bird.

"I don't know." Myra shook her head.

"That is what he said I should call him."

Rastel's mouth twitched a bit at this answer.

'So it is a narcissist bird then?"

Just below the bird, Vars was preparing the flesh of the animals they had hunted diligently. He was slicing them into large slabs which he placed on a large metal tray.

The bird was looking down at him excitedly as far as Rastel could tell. Reading a 'valiant warrior eagle's' expression was a little difficult for him.

Lolo hadn't followed them and went back immediately Myra had run up. When they reached Vars's side, he looked at Rastel and a bit of relief flashed through his eyes but he maintained a straight face.

"So you are back, that is good. I was afraid you might have died." He spoke casually as he was cutting up pieces of meat with a wide blade.

"What are you saying! There is no way Hero is going to die!" Myra looked at him angrily.

"It was nothing, the town lord came out and took care of the beasts before they did much damage." Rastel laughed lightly as he patted Myra on her head.

Vars glanced at Myra before continuing his work.

"As I said, it is good he came back. I didn't mean anything about it. It is not like I was worried he would die or something like that."

Although he tried to explain himself, Myra was still angrily chastising him while Rastel couldn't hold back his laughter.

"Look at this tsundere attitude, it's too much to take in! Good lord! You have so many stereotypes attached to you, your future must be bright!"

Rastel laughed out loud while holding his stomach.

From the daddy issues to the young master identity to this, if this was a novel then he was sure Vars would be the main character.

Vars and Myra stopped to look at him with weird expressions.

Ts-un-dere? What is that?

At that point a loud screech sounded from above that made Rastel immediately stop laughing and had his body nearly curl up.

"Kriek! Stop chatting with the sneaky muan and hurry up with the food, little Vulcan!" The eagle complained bitterly.

'So this is what PTSD feels like?' Rastel felt aggrieved.

Picking up a stick from the ground, Myra waved it threateningly at the eagle and yelled back at him.

"Mind your manners or I will reduce your portion!"

The eagle looked at her and a 'sad' expression appeared on his face. Taking a wing and putting it on his head, he cried out.

"Oh my, I am really sorry little chic- I mean ma'am. I shall mind my manners well from now on."

Myra arrowed her eyes.

"You nearly called me little chick again didn't you? You are lucky you are a valiant warrior eagle, or else I would reduce your portion by half!"

Myra took a commanding tone as she swaggered in front of the eagle with the stick in one hand and Amba under the other.

Recovering from his bout of fear, he looked at the scene with amusement on his face. Before he could turn to Vars to ask him more about it, he already took the initiative to answer.

"Old Ferud likes children, it doesn't matter which race, he is always soft with them." Vars said dryly.

"Of course that is only for children, Old Ferud is still a magic beast and a powerful one at that. He is very ferocious, has a bad temper, and ruthlessly attacks anyone he deems to be an enemy." He added as he put the last of the meat on the metal tray.

Rastel watched as Vars took a jar filled with a powder that was spicy to the nose and sprinkle it liberally over that large tray of meat.

He then lit up the furnace with a bit of work and shoved the large tray filled with meat inside which started sizzling not long after.

Looking up at the giant eagle that was behaving playfully with Myra, he could easily see how terrifying he would be if he was on an assault.

'Must be something scary, seeing such a large magic beas- '

"Wait a minute! Magic beast!?" this part of Vars's statement just registered in his brain.

"Of course, what were you thinking?" turning away from the meat, Vars looked at Rastel's shocked face with a bit of confusion.

"Do you think just any random beast would be capable of speech?"
