Chapter 65 - Roxanne

Rastel's mind went on overdrive as he saw the huge calamity coming his way and the first thought that came to his mind was to summon Amba from Myra's side.

But he quickly discarded that idea almost immediately because of one problem that was constantly knocking on his head even when he asleep.

He was a wanted man.

'Although I can't possibly stay hidden for so long, I should at least try to limit my use of Amba to stay low-key for as long as possible. And if it comes down to it, I can still use those ones'

With that thought, he waved his hands to form spells as he cast one earth wall after the other to create a barrier between the settlers and the incoming beast.

He had already seen the level of the beast was a high 23. If he was using Amba, killing it would be as easy as sipping tea but considering the girl it was pursuing was a player, he didn't want his identity revealed so easily.

Based on his own strength as a level 11, he was absolutely no match for this beast. He quickly constructed the barrier and the settlers huddled behind the cart in fear.

Myra while holding Amba in her arms wanted to head forward to meet Rastel but was held back by the old man.

"It is dangerous there, let him handle it."

She wanted to say 'But Amba is right here' but she kept quiet when she saw the golem's unconcerned face. Rastel had already communicated with him to stay back.

Looking at the earth wall barrier, Rastel narrowed his eyes in thought as he nimbly flipped on top of the earth wall with his tail swishing in the air.

The girl had noticed the barrier and looked at him with a face that showed she thought it was a stupid idea. The massive beast easily towered over the wall and could probably smash it down with a swipe of its paws.

'I know it's useless too but what can I do?'

He couldn't help but smile self mockingly at her expression.

He needed to pull the beast away from the settlers and Myra first so he had to coordinate with the girl. The beast's silence was a bit unnerving as it didn't even grunt or roar, just silently pursuing.

Rastel signaled to the girl his intentions. They would soon reach his location so after she nodded her understanding, he promptly shot two fire balls at the beast's eyes.

BOOM!

BOOM!

This garnered a reaction as the beast flinched. Even if it was far stronger than Rastel, as it wasn't a magic beast with any form of magic protection, it couldn't ignore a blast of fire to the eyes.

The beast still didn't roar in pain as it turned its eyes to Rastel and kept running.

'Who ever heard of a mage drawing aggro?'

With a chuckle, he jumped into the tress to the left and started running.

The beast changed directions with a swerve and pursued the escaping offender while the girl heaved a sigh of relief as she slowed down.

She was already tired after running for so long. If only her weapon didn't malfunction at such a critical time then such a thing might not have happened.

She looked at the contraption in her hand before looking at the direction the muan led the beast to and shook her head before putting the weapon back in her inventory.

She was about to pull out something else when she instinctively turned her head and looked at the group of NPCs that were staring at her from behind the earth wall barrier.

They were still looking scared because of the sudden appearance of the massive black beast and some were staring at her with a bit of resentment in their eyes.

She suddenly felt bad as she revealed an apologetic smile and approached them. A girl with long black hair and piercing blue eyes was standing in front while holding a weird looking doll in her hands.

The small girl stared at the direction the muan ran off to before looking back at her. Before she could say anything, the small girl asked her a question.

"Are you going to help hero?"

The girl stared at the blue eyed girl before nodding with a smile and patting her on the head.

"Of course, I am not the type of person to push my problems onto others"

"Well then get to it! What are yer still doing here?"

An old man with a bitter face snapped at her.

"Ah, hero is very strong! He can still win even if she doesn't help"

"Keep quiet young lady!"

"I- I'm sorry!"

The girl was intrigued by the conversation but still maintained a polite front. She tapped at her inventory and brought out a long contraption that made the settlers open their eyes in awe as they stared at it.

"Don't worry" she said as she hoisted the long metal weapon on her shoulder.

"I'll pay back his goodwill"

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rastel was playing Tarzan as he swung through the branches of the tightly knit trees of the forest. The jaguar like beast was also showing an impressive amount of agility as it leaped from branch to branch as well.

If Rastel was being honest, he was terrified!

This beast was more than 10 levels stronger than him and ignoring that fact. Just the size of the beast alone was enough as he was sure that just a single smack from its massive paws would send him to an early game over.

He turned back and chucked a fire ball just to test it. The beast which was already wary of such attacks swiftly turned its head and the attack landed on its thick fur.

It stared back at Rastel with an almost mocking gaze as it kept on running.

The fireball just left a scorch mark, not enough to be even called a light wound. Rastel just kissed his teeth as he increased his speed.

He decided to give enough space between him and the others first. When he was far enough, he would bring out his golems and give the beast a ruthless beat down!

'See how you'll be cocky then.'

All of a sudden, the beast suddenly roared as its body began to tremble uncontrollably. The roar particularly shook Rastel as he hadn't heard the beast mutter even a single growl since he laid eyes on it.

Even when he fired a spell in its eyes!

The beast roared in pain as it suddenly twitched and fell from the high branches and landed with a loud thud to the floor.

THUD!

'Now!' Rastel didn't hesitate!

He had no idea what happened but he couldn't let such an obvious chance slip by. If it was this down, he was sure an attack in the right place with the immortal's blade would finish it off.

With a quick backwards leap, he was soaring through the foliage as he unleashed two fire balls in a row straight for the beast's eyes.

BOOM!!

BOOM!!

He did it with the intention of increasing the beast's discomfort so he could land a comfortable attack but the beast actually didn't even notice it.

It was still trembling and twitching uncontrollably.

Rastel landed on its outstretched belly with a soft thud and was quick to take out the immortal's blade. Without hesitation, he lunged for the throat and stabbed in deep.

ROOOOAAARRRR!!!!

This got a definite reaction from the beast as the blade sunk in with a satisfying sound and warm blood spurted out.

As he moved to drag the blade across. He felt, rather than saw, the incoming paw of the beast swiping at his head.

"Shit!"

He quickly abandoned the blade and jumped backwards. He narrowly escaped the attack as he saw a black blur passing right in front of his nose.

With an impressive display of reflex and control, he stopped his retreat midway and reached for the knife again.

He wanted to end it before the beast decided to aim another attack at him again but to his alarm, he saw the attack that had missed him earlier coming back from a round trip with a back paw.

SMACK!

He had barely put up a water barrier in front of him before the paw came bashing in. The barrier stopped the attack from passing through for just enough time for Rastel to begin a retreat but it wasn't enough.

The attack smacked him heavily in the chest before he could go far and he found himself flying through the air and painfully smashing into a nearby tree.

"Fucking…... hell…." he wheezed in pain as he struggled to stand up.

He felt an intense pain from his ribs and he had to squint his eyes to hold back the tears that were threatening to come out.

The beast seemed to regain some sense of clarity at that point and stood up from the floor.

Its bloodshot eyes were filled with malice and it looked especially terrifying with the blood dripping down its shiny black coat in rivers.

It bared its teeth as it approached the downed muan and was just itching to rip this despicable being into pieces!

'Well that's as far as I go.'

Rastel was calm as he cast multiple Insta heals to help alleviate his pain, he was still on his knees.

He silently took out three golem figurines from his inventory and was ready to activate them when the beast got near.

Once they pounced on it, they would definitely be able to beat it to death.

But the beast noticed his suspicious movements and decided to pounce on him then.

With a leap, it opened its terrifying teeth decked jaws and gave out a small growl that sounded like thunder to Rastel's ears.

'Now!'

BANG!!!

A loud explosion that was even more terrifying than the beast's roar echoed out as the airborne beast suddenly got flung sideways like a piece of rag.

It rolled a few times before smashing loudly into a tree trunk, damaging it significantly and just laid limp without a sound.

Rastel stared with wide eyes at the limp figure of the large beast for a while before swiftly turning his head to find the source of the attack which took it down.

The figure of a girl hoisting a long metal weapon on her shoulders was reflected in his eyes.

She had long flowing black hair with large mesmerizing gray eyes and was dressed like a badass gunslinger from the Victorian era.

She wore a pair of black shorts with high heeled leather shoes and socks that covered up to her thighs. A short leather jacket covered a black corset with multiple strings which accentuated her incredible figure.

She smiled at him winningly as she walked up to him and extended her hand. He grabbed it in a daze and pulled himself up before he looked her up and down in awe.

'So this is how it feels like to have a prince charming like character coming to save you? The effect is really not bad, I think I understand now.'

He nodded his head internally as he came to realize one of the hidden secrets of life, this was definitely useful information.

She let down the contraption on her shoulder that Rastel just now recognized as a gun.

'Wait, what?' he was momentarily shocked.

He had heard rumors of people trying to recreate guns in AOM but he had never really heard of someone making something successful.

The problem was always with insufficient power to deal enough damage to beasts with above average defenses compared to earth's animals but considering that this girl just one shot a level 23 beast, that didn't seem to be her issue.

The girl leaned on the long gun that had a shiny silver body with a triangular handle made of a dark brown wood. There were plenty lines and inscriptions covering the metal body that he couldn't understand and it looked very impressive as a whole.

She turned to look at the downed beast before turning once again to him. As she parted her lips to say something, Rastel instantly cut in with the first thing that came to his mind.

"What's with the impressive gunslinger cosplay?" his eyes showed genuine appreciation.

The girl paused in surprise with her mouth still open as she looked at him for a second. When she came to, she replied him a small laugh.

"I am a terrible steampunk fan-girl"

Rastel laughed at her reply and extended his hand.

"You can call me Rastel."

The girl didn't hesitate to receive his handshake.

"Call me Roxanne" her grey eyes seemed to twinkle as she looked at him.

"Or just Roxy for short."
