The next day I woke up with some struggle. Thankfully the house we were in had an alarm clock and batteries inside. I've decided to take it with me.
I went to wake everyone up. Made breakfast and did the morning exercises.
Today we were going to the construction material shop. I couldn't wait to see Telos get his hands on some high-quality sand.
In a group, we went off the main road to the side road.
There were quite a bit fewer Deviants there so we were walking quite fast as we cleared them. I even started considering making a huge curve just to get to the centre instead of proceeding on the main road. But after thinking about it logically, I changed my mind, getting more Blood Crystals is better after all.
As we walked on the side road we started hearing some sounds in the distance.
From around the corner, a group of twenty people walked out.
My eyes gleamed; finally, people that were not my family! I was growing tired of them. It's quite stressful to constantly be with them not going to lie. I lived for almost 20 years on my own after all.
The people looked like total scavengers. They had used all kinds of stuff as defensive gear. One person with long red hair and quite skinny. He was using tens of watches on his hands as a defence. On his chest and back, he had a couple of pans and on his head, he had a pot with holes in it. As for his weapon he was using a broom with a dagger on the other end.
Absolute legend.
Literally, all of them looked the same. They were using whatever they could. Three or four of them jump against a single Deviant.
They were beating force with numbers. Unfortunately, it wouldn't be effective if they met someone like that Chief or the Snake we had fought against. There was potential there though.
I could see they were clearly not regular people and ate some crystals, but not enough of them to have a significant effect.
Actually, I would be surprised if there were any people left who do not know about the Blood Crystals. Purely based on the fact that one didn't need to dissect a Deviant to find them. Just by killing one Blood Ghost one would be able to clearly see a crystal on the ground.
Of course, if one lived in the house waiting for death then, of course, one would stay ignorant.
For example, Amelia and Crystal were lost causes as they were completely incapable of any kind of harm to the Deviants. Not to mention that they were too scared to talk to us. After we reached the centre of the city we will go our ways.
We killed through the Deviants as I saw them getting in trouble. I couldn't wait any longer.
"Jason help me reach them."
Jason nodded with his head.
I walked back around ten meters and prepared to sprint out as if I was about to run 100 meters in the Olympics.
The pavement cracked under my foot and then cracked more with my another step. I ran and then jumped up.
Jason focused on me as I could feel myself get lighter. I flew over the Deviants and landed on one smashing its head into smithereens.
"Hello gentlemen, I am here to help." I said as I waved my Hammer to smash two Deviants.
Everyone looked at me not understand where I had appeared from.
Only some of them had noticed me flying over.
"Huh, who is this guy?" Some of them said as they started looking at me strangely.
"Focus, you don't want to die." His friend told him as he blocked a Deviants attack. The particular deviant had fists like metal. The guy took 10 steps back barely holding on his feet.
I saw this as I thought the bastard deviant was strong. Was he a martial artist before he died?
I sprinted around them clearing the Deviants at lightning pace.
After all, we were near the centre of the city. Any place on the street that has not been cleared before would have tens of Deviants wondering around.
In a normal zombie apocalypse, there would be hundreds. But because they were eating each other, after 17 days they had halved like 4 times. Although, now aquatic and other mammals and more humans started roaming around instead of hiding. So, the Deviants could get more food from others instead of devouring each other.
They also seemed to need it less often. They could probably evolve without eating as well. Like plants, maybe there was something in the air.
I saw one guy getting bit on the neck by a Deviant. He was as good as dead.
I started focusing even more as I really started destroying the Deviants. I didn't care about their crystals anymore as I just exploded their bodies straight away.
"What the fuck is this guy? How is he so powerful?"
"He's a monster… look at that hammer, I probably wouldn't even be able to swing it…" One skinny guy said.
I killed the last Deviant as no more were coming at us. They were simply too far.
My family had managed to reach us as well.
"What are you people doing here, why are you walking towards the centre at this point? Even if you do, you should walk further away from the main road. Through the small alleys." I asked them concerned while pointing in the distance. Their actions had cost human life.
The people looked at each other and then a big tall guy walked to me. He had short black hair and brown eyes. He wore all kinds of stuff to protect his body like all others. Baseball bat in his hand.
"We saw the army helicopters fly there. We thought that it's our only hope." The guy spoke for all of the people.
I respected these people courage.
"I am Dudley and you are?"
"Matthew. A pleasure to meet you."
We shook hands as I asked them a few questions. I kept glancing around as everyone looked at our weapons in jealousy. Although none of them had the courage to do anything after witnessing our powers.
Apparently, the road they were walking on had the least amount of Deviants that's why they were walking on this particular one.
I looked around and had indeed noticed that fact. Further away in the distance the Deviant Density was quite low indeed. It seemed that this road had been cleared before, not too long ago.
I noticed a lot of traces of fights such as scraps of hand made tools and such. A lot more than on the main road.
It seemed like this road had become the main way for the people from the west of the city used. That was also a good thing as that meant that they could get there easier. If I also cleared the main road then that would make travelling later a lot easier.
"If you want to, you can follow us and I will get you to the centre of the town, as that's where we are heading afterwards." I said as a matter of fact way.
Matthew looked at the other people.
"Why should we follow him? We don't have enough food, we need to move there as soon as possible, the army must have some supplies there." One gangster looking guy spoke.
"Yeah, exactly! We will starve to death before we get to the centre." Another really skinny guy said. It was quite obvious they were having a hard time with food. Amongst such a big group they would have to share a lot.
I shook my head, they would never reach the centre with their strength. At this point, 1 out of three Deviants further towards the centre should already be second stage Deviants. They would have to go back and train for a while longer before they could even get a chance.
"Do whatever you want, but at most, you will be wasting one day if you come with me." I calmly said, but now that I looked at it, I realized it would be a bad idea. These people don't look trustworthy at all, sleeping with them would be troublesome.
The gangster guy dressed in all Nike and the bald head came to me. He kept staring at the 25 litre water bottle.
"Bro, why don't you share some water with us?" The guy stared at me greedily.
I sneered, "That's not how it works. You better find your own." This idiot thinks I am giving him anything. We still had a long journey to the centre and we were saving water as much as possible. I wouldn't mind giving the guy some food, but water, no way.
"Come on man, we are all in the same ship." The gangster walked towards me I saw a cold glint in his eyes. He probably thought there was no way someone like me would hurt another person. I saw him reach in his pocket.
What a joke!
I kicked the bastard in the stomach as he flew into the group of people knocking a lot of them back. He spat out a mouthful of blood. One could clearly see a pocket knife in his hand.
"Grab the fucker he dares to hurt my brother!" Some guy shouted as he ran out of the group of people.
What the fuck… stuff like this can actually happen in real life? Are these people bored or something. They must be really desperate for water. Unfortunately for them, if I beat them up they can only wait for death.
Sunlight and Jason were about to go and fight them, but I stopped them. If they accidentally killed any of these people they would feel very bad.
I put down my hammer as I walked towards the guy that rushed at me. Behind him, more people were coming. Had they not seem my power? I couldn't understand why they were looking for trouble.
The guy came at me with a steel bar, he swung it to hit me straight on the head. The bastard targeted me and went straight for a kill. People who had no mercy I wouldn't give them any either. How ridiculous is that, if he wanted he could just beat me up and take whatever he wanted, but this bastard wanted to kill me.
I grabbed the steel bar midair like it was a wooden stick. Then slapped him on the face, with my speed and power there was no way he could block me or dodge me.
Teeth flew out of the guy's mouth as I took the steel bar from his hand. I bent him over and hit him on the ass with the steel bar. I heard a crack as the guy's whole body tensed up and he cried out in pain. I pushed him on the ground as I looked at the other guy that was coming at me.
The other guy came at me with full force and threw his baseball bat at me as I deflected it with my hand. It flew and broke through a window of one of the skyscrapers.
I grabbed the guys' shirt and started slapping him mercilessly. The other guy behind him completely stopped as he didn't dare to get close at all. I kept slapping the guy until his head looked like an apple and then threw him on the ground.
"This old man doesn't have time for the likes of you. You had lost the choice of following me."
