Chereads / Bottles and Jellies / Chapter 8 - 8 See you never again

Chapter 8 - 8 See you never again

"What the hell am I going to do with that guy? He could be a serial killer or a rapist or a mafia boss for heaven's sake!"

She pulled Greg away and talked with him in private.

Sophie glanced at the arrogant amnesia man as Mr. Finn approached him.

"He has no record at all, Sophie. We have everything checked before we deploy him to your care."

"Deploy? What am I? Your military comrade or something? I didn't sign up for this."

Greg pat her shoulder. "You'll do just fine. Besides, we know Alexander is in good hands once we endorse him to you. Just let him live with you for a short while. Once we find his family, you're done with the responsibility."

"He's not even my responsibility from the very start!"

"Well, you did save him before."

"I did and that was just about it. I'm out of the picture after I sent him to the hospital."

"Come on, Sophie. Rest assured that we'll take him away once we find out his identity. For now, work on helping him recover his memory."

I glared at Greg.

"Why me?"

"I believe I answered that already."

Her shoulders drooped.

"You're impossible. I couldn't even properly feed myself. How am I supposed to feed another mouth?"

"I believe in your abilities, young lady. After all, how come they call you as the village "runner" for nothing, right?"

Greg walked back to the car.

"You cannot do this to me!"

"Just avoid illegal stuff. I'm still an officer, mind you!"

She stomped her feet as she turned around and look at the man named, Alexander.

He was giving her these weird gazes.

She felt even weirder.

"I'm not really having a good feeling about this."

Sophie surveyed the man from head to foot, who was standing by her doorway.

He was probably more than six feet or so. He's a medium built, fair skinned blonde guy. He got lean muscles, strong limbs and seemed healthy over all. She could use this chance as an advantage, just like what Greg said.

'I will turn this nightmare into something profitable.'

Lightbulb moment!

The man lazily gazed at her.

By the looks of it, he must have been some elite guy from a rich clan living a grandiose life somewhere else. With his good posture, aristocratic features, poise and gait, he could pass as a duke or a prince.

She looked at his hands.

That pair of hands belong to someone who has never worked hard labor before.

Anyhow, she'll take her chances.

Besides, she thinks that the only thing lacking with him was his memory. Other than that, he could be someone useful.

She pursed her lips and remembered what Mr. Finn said earlier:

"You can have him work for you so you can pay your debts ASAP. He seems like a pretty able young man. Check him out and see what skills he got and bring him at the market tomorrow morning."

'Mr. Finn got a point. Why would I need to keep all the burden of paying his hospital bills if he was the patient after all?'

She walked around him as if studying his overall physique.

"What kind of work can you do?"

He shrugged.

"Do you know how to clean? How to fix the roof? How to mop the floor or change lightings?"

He raised an eyebrow and looked down on her.

"Can you ride the bike or a scooter, perhaps?"

He didn't budge.

"What about fishing? Do you know anything about fishing or picking seashells? Or what about fruit picking? Do you think you can use those muscles of yours lifting crates of oranges and peaches?"

"I'm starve. Cook some food." He irritatingly walked inside her house and slouched at her sofa.

She was left dumbfounded.

"Wait a second, Mister."

She rushed inside her house.

He just gave her a blank stare.

"Let's all be clear here once and for all, your highness. I took you in not to be your maid or your servant. You are here because I was the only human being in this village who has a heart to keep you for the meantime while the police are busy looking for your family. You have no right to boss me around like you own this house. This is my house. You follow my rules. Is that understood?"

He lazily nodded. "Fine. Just dish some food now. I'm really starving."

Her jaw literally dropped on the floor.

"You didn't understand me, did you?"

He eyed her like an irritating insect.

"What's hard to understand in 'I'm starving', woman?"

Her eyes widened in shock.

"Get out! Get out of my house! Get out!"

She grabbed his arm and dragged him outside.

"How dare you talk down to me? You arrogant amnesia man!"

"Hey woman! The police told me you'll take me in. Why are you forcing me to work? This is against the law."

Her jaw dropped again.

"What the heck are you saying?"

"I'm a person with disability. You should show mercy instead than force me to do hard labor."

'This man is impossible!'

"Hey you, dork! Listen very well 'cause I will say this only once. I will lock my house and will go away for work because I know how hard it is to earn money to feed myself. I will be home by night time and I expect you to be gone by then and never come back here ever again."

He looked at her blankly. It irritated her even more.

She quickly grabbed her bag inside the house, locked her door and put the keys inside her pocket.

"See? All locked." She stepped onto her bike breathing heavily.

"Go back to the hospital or go somewhere else. I won't ever take an arrogant man like you under my wing. Thanks, but no thanks. Good riddance. See you never again!"

She furiously pedaled away from her house.

There was no point wasting her time talking with that guy.

She was unimaginably upset because of him.

If he thinks he can get away because he pretends to be sick, then the hell with him.

She was so determined in making him get his share paying off his bill yet he suddenly treated her like his personal cook.

She took a series of deep breaths.

There's no free lunch anywhere now.

If he wants a place to stay, he needs to work for it.

If he wants food to fill his stomach, he should work for it.

After all, nothing is free in this world anymore.
