I watched as Ivan stormed away from me. I couldn't tell if he was mad at me, his eyes were full of pain and guilt. I knew there was something he wasn't telling me. I couldn't squeeze it out from him not that I'd force him to do so,I would rather if he opened up to me on his own.
I let him go.
I went to class late, all eyes were on me when I came in and handed the clinic slip to the Mr. Salcedo, the English teacher who looked at the slip and then to my plastered face. He didn't say anything, just pointed on my chair motioning me to sit down.
From my peripheral view, I could see Nathan glancing at me but I ignored him. My face still burn from where he hit me, no way I'd talk to him. On my right sat Ivan's empty chair. Empty, like what I feel right now. When did I started feeling like this? It has only been four days. Would that be enough to say that I need him beside me? I want him with me?
I looked out the window and saw an ambulance speed away. I paid no attention to the cars or the nurse, or the teacher talking. My day dragged away like that, unproductive, uneventful. I guess not having Ivan with me makes me a full, boring person. I have never met someone who could make me do the unexpected.
I didn't see him the rest of the day. I stood at the parking lot staring at my black civic, not knowing what to do or where to go. Then I saw Honey ran past. I called out to her, she stopped and gave me a brief nod. She turned to me and gave me and sighed m I was half expecting her to scold me or something because of me having a fight with Ivan. Since she is his best friend, I assumed he would tell her. But instead, she walked up to me, her shoulders shake and looked like she was in the verge of tears.
"Did he tell you anything?" She asked.
I shook my head, confused. "Tell me what?" I answered.
She looked away. "Nevermind." She gave me a pat and left.
I felt something gnawing in my chest, something was going on and no one was telling me..
I pulled out my phone and tried to dial Ivan's phone number.
I stared as his number registered in my screen but I wasn't getting an answer.
I tried again
And again.
But no one answered.
I gave up and drove home.
