Chapter 5 - day one : Ivan's first date

Jaycee in an apron was so adorable. He wore it without complaint too, despite it being pink and floral. He's busy tossing some greens and putting them in a plate.  This wasn't the date I wanted but it's good enough. Well, I only asked him out so I could bring someone with me here at the elderly home.

"Who's the handsome young lad?" Grandma Kris pulled my arm and pointed at Jaycee.

"He's a friend from school."I answered her, setting a plate on her table. "Eat you dinner, handsome prepared the meal for you."

I frequently volunteered at the Rosario's house for the elderly. Maybe because I grew up with my grandparents that I have become fond of old people. Even after my grandparents passed, I still come to this place every now and then.

I glanced back at Jaycee who's now being crowded by old women.

I chuckled. He's a hit for all ages.

Jaycee started singing as a request by one of the grandpa. He gave me a wink and sang Yesterday by The Beatles.

His singing voice was a symphony in my ears. The more I listened the more I feel imperfect. He's handsome, tall and talented. The fact he entered our school means he's smart too. Whilst I was nothing. I have no talent, I'm frail, small, my brain can't even catch up to anything.

Guess that's life huh?

But at least I can fake it.

I clapped with the rest of the crowd while I sniffled, trying to push back the tears forming in the rim of my eyes. He walked to me after his performance.

"Didn't know you can sing."

He gave me a warm smile. "Of course you wouldn't know. You just met me this morning."

Guess this would be his flaw, he's got a way with his words that you just want to slap him.

Ivan, calm down. You still need him to clean up later.

I breathed deeply. "Well, yeah. But good to know."

I turned to my heel and stormed out to the kitchen. I grabbed a set meal, similar to what we serve and went out of the building. I sat at an empty chair by the garden and nibbled on a celery. The darkened sky earlier cleared up. It didn't rain which was good. The stars were out tonight.

"Why did you suddenly walk out on me?" Jaycee sat down beside me.

I looked at him and saw him frowning at me.

"I'm hungry." I mumbled.

He brought his own plate with him.

"You're eating old people food too?" I asked. Normally we prepare food separately for the staff and volunteers. Our food would consist of more sodium than the food we give to the oldies.

He nodded. "I'm vegetarian."

Great. What more surprises this guy was hiding?
