"He deserved it."
The two of them said all at the same time which surprised them both as well.
They subconsciously looked at one another and it was Nathalia who first broke the eye contact.
But a second after she averted her gaze, she looked back again at Aiden and snapped.
"Hey! Didn't I told you to call for my name on times of need?! Why can't you do that any time sooner?!!!! What took you so long to say my name?!!!"
Nathalia tried to sport an annoyed expression when she said that but her voice betrayed her.
Because she sounded more worried than annoyed
She almost lost her husband on their first job together.
So how could she act calm after that??!
If not for Aiden calling out her name in the last second, who knows what would have happened to her fated husband.
She did not wait for more than a century for her fated husband just to have him killed on their first couple duty.
Due to their unique circumstances, the Fate Spinners, as well as the Council of Gods, made it sure that Nathalia won't be able to track down her fated husband so as to stop her from finding out who it was before the right time.
So it was only whenever Aiden say her name could she be able to found his location
In fact, if not for Hootie's insistence before to follow Aiden all the way to the hospital, Nathalia would never have any idea on which Hospital her fated husband would have been admitted to.
"Well, just so you know. I was busy not to die back there. Maybe you should try it out for yourself sometime, so that that you would have an idea on how hard it is to think straight while someone was choking the air out of you. How do you expect to even think of your name and said it out loud during such desperate situation?!
Aiden replied in a tone that was full of sarcasm.
"That is the more reason why you should have called my name in the first place. Because I could have kept you safe if I was around. You just have to call my name, so that and I would know your location and I would be able to reach you."
"Okay. I get it now. Thank you anyway for saving my life."
Aiden knew that there was no point arguing about it anymore so he just decided to cut the chase and end their conversation just like that.
"Don't mention it, you are my fated husband after all, so it is only normal for me to protect you. Or at least before you became immortal yourself. But for now, you have to promise me that next time you will call my name right away as soon as there was any possibility of danger."
"Okay... Okay... I promise. Though I hope there is no next time."
Aiden agreed readily so as to stop Nathalia from nagging at him.
But soon after, he realized that something seemed wrong.
Why did he have to agree to her and made a promise on top of that???
It was not as if he was looking forward to more of this in the future?!!!
He already had enough!!!
"Hey, wait! Who told you that I would be doing any of this again??! NEVER!!!!"
Aiden declared with much conviction on his voice but Nathalia only raised her perfectly trimmed eyebrow and gave him a side glance.
As if saying that she did not believe a word he said.
"Is everything over now????"
He suddenly asked out of curiosity when his yes landed at where Dr. Cookman was sitting.
The other party had his knees and head tucked in his chest and he sat cowering in fear at the corner.
Meanwhile, the ghosts of the two people he killed hovered just above him. Their empty eye sockets stared down at Dr. Coolman as he peed himself from fear.
"For our client, it was now over. But not of him. He will be receiving his fair share of torture as he lived from this point onwards."
Nathalia declared, not feeling any shed of pity at all for Dr. Coolman.
