"Me??? Being an immortal????"
Aiden's lower jaw almost fell on the ground from the shock
He widened his mouth so wide that it almost seemed as if he was a fish that had fallen on the shore.
Everything that he heard from the other party was definitely not making any sense to him at all.
"Yes, you can be granted the chance to be an immortal like me so long as we accumulate enough credits. The Council of God will grant as one favor and I will ask for a cup of water in the Fountain of Life and Death on your behalf."
"And how could you be so sure that the council that you were talking about will grant you that favor???"
The thought of living an immortal life for the rest of eternity had never crossed Aiden's mind even once before.
But even though he was having a hard time understanding everything, he still asked Nathalia some details about it so as to humor her in exchange for her effort of explaining things to him.
For some reason, he was already starting to believe that everything was for real.
"I know they will because that was how they grant my father a favor. Now, all we have to do is to focus on accumulating as much credit as we could. The soonest the better."
Nathalia said and she sounded more enthusiastic than before when she said that.
"And how exactly we can earn that credit that you are talking about???"
Aiden asked with uncertainty.
His gut feeling was telling him that whatever that thing that Nathalia would going to suggest next was not something that he would like.
Well, his instinct was spot on!
Because he was so damn right.
"Simple. We just have to do our job right. As the governing bodies of the Underworld, it is our duty as well as our responsibility to maintain the peace and order among creatures of the dark. So one of our jobs was to make sure that no demons will be set loose in the mortal realms. If any of them escaped, we just have to find and catch them before they could wreak havoc and breed more monsters."
Nathalia said with a smile as if what she was saying was not something to worry about and it was just a piece of cake.
Well, it was indeed a piece of cake for Nathalia.
However, it did not seem to be the same case for Aiden.
Just the thought of him running after an escapee demon was enough to send cold shivers down his spine.
That was to say that he would be the one running after the escaping demons in the first place.
What more if it became the other way around???
It would be a total disaster!
"Is there any other way available aside from catching monsters??? That is way too dangerous for me. Well, you for sure had no qualms facing them since you are immortal but I am not. I might get killed either by those monsters or by heart attack before I could even accomplish anything note worthy."
"Well, to be honest, I prefer catching demons and fighting monsters because it was much fun and less complicated. But since we cannot risk your life, we could go for the less risky but boring way of earning credits. We can help those lingering souls with their unfinished business."
Nathalia suggested with a shrug.
"When you said lingering souls, do you mean to say, the ghosts???"
Aiden asked with a slightly quivering voice. As expected, Nathalia filled him in with a detailed explanation.
"Yes. When a person died, the grim reaper usually took lead them to the underworld and there we will sort them out so that the deceased souls could go rest and peace in his or her afterlife. But there were these cases of lingering souls who choose not to go to the afterlife after dying because they still hold a strong attachment to the mortal realm. That was why we have to help them resolve their unfinished business so they could immediately go to their afterlife before they could even turn into baleful spirits."
"So ghosts really do exists????"
Aiden asked with a bothered expression on his face.
He was now starting to look disheveled the more he learned about the things that he did not dare believed to exist in reality before.
Nathalia noticed that Aiden started to look like someone constipated upon the mentioned of the ghosts but she decided not to expose him.
"What are you so surprised about??? It's not as if you haven't seen one, right?"
Nathalia scoffed when he saw Aiden overreacting.
She knew for sure that Aiden has at least seen a ghost before if not demons.
"Me?? Of course not. I haven't seen a ghost before. You are the creepiest encounter that I ever had so far."
Aiden replied with all honesty.
"Are you sure??? That is weird because you should have received my betrothal gift already."
Nathalia muttered to herself.
"What do you mean betrothal gift? I did not receive anything from you and I don't think I will be accepting any either."
Aiden rebuked in defense when Nathalia eyed him suspiciously.
"I made sure to give it to you that night. Maybe there was just a delay or something. Remember when I blew on your eyes??? I opened your sixth sense at that time. It was my gift so you could do your job a lot easier."
Nathalia said with a bright smile as if she was proud of what she has done to Aiden.
"You do what?!!!!!!"
Aiden blurted out when he realized what the other party just said.
"You opened my sixth sense?!!!! Does it mean I had a third eye now???!"
Aiden added in disbelief and it was as if a cold bucket of water was poured over his head making him shudder.
That explained everything.
Why he kept on seeing people that no one aside from him could see.
The child...
The nurse...
They were not his imagination.
They were ghosts!
