"She was obviously a wandering soul"
Nathalia said as she watched the departing figure of the blind ghost.
"A wandering soul??? How is that different from the usual deceased soul?? Is it another type of ghosts? Or it is just another term to refer to dead people??"
Aiden asked in confusion.
As much as he did not want to have anything to do at all with any of those haunted stuff, he still felt the need to know a thing or two about it.
Lest he might have good use of it in the near future.
"A wandering soul means that she was not yet aware that she was no longer the living person that she used to be..."
Nathalia patiently answered Aiden's question just like what she usually did.
But Aiden still found her answer a little bit vague so he went on asking a few more questions so as to better understand what the term really meant.
"You mean to say, she does not know yet that she was already a ghost????"
"Kinda... most of the time, that was the case. But there were also some incidents where wandering souls were reported to still had their physical body somewhere. Like those of the comatose patients. It just so happened that their souls inexplicably left their bodies and got lost. And usually, their wandering soul will be left lingering somewhere near the area where they met the accident that almost cost them their lives."
Nathalia replied in nonchalance as if they were just talking about the weather.
"How was that possible??? You had the Grim Reapers responsible for claiming the souls of the dead people right??? How come some ghosts got lost????"
Aiden on the other hand, could not help but feel like the more he heard Nathalia's explanation regarding wandering souls, the more confused he seemed
He grew up knowing that Grim Reapers' sole purpose was to claim the soul of a dying person.
Truth be told, he really did not give it much thought before, thinking that it was just part of another silly children's story.
But now that he already saw a Grim Reaper in real flesh by himself, Aiden could not help but question the purpose of their existence.
In fact, it would be a lie if Aiden would say that he was not curious about what exactly was the role that they play in the abodes of the dead
"Yes, we do have Grim Reaper responsible for claiming the souls of the deceased. But do you have any idea how many people die on a daily basis??? A grim reaper usually gets notified as soon as someone was destined to die within their scope. But sometimes, due to overlapping schedules of assisting deceased souls, Grim Reapers might arrive late on the scene of death. And there were times that strong-willed souls regained their consciousness even before a grim reaper arrive to assist them in receiving their afterlife so they would end up wandering instead."
Wandering souls, just like cases of missing souls were just some of the sources of headaches for a typical Grim Reaper.
And as the chief ruler of the Underworld, it only goes to say that Nathalia was familiar about this stuff, even though she was not exactly a Grim Reaper, herself.
"But is it not dangerous for the wandering souls to be left by themselves, just like that?? I mean, if they were already dead and yet they were not aware of it, they might cause inconvenience to other people since they will try to live a normal life as they see fit. Not knowing that they could turn into vengeful specters any time soon, since they no longer belong to the world of the livings, to begin with."
With the intention of clarifying his doubts, Aiden exchange a few more words with the Nathalia.
Especially when he recalled Nathalia's explanation before as to why they have to help the deceased souls to fulfill their unfinished business here on the mortal world and sent them straight to their afterlife as soon as possible.
Because the longer a deceased soul stay in the world of the living, the higher the risk that they would turn into baleful specters and wreak havoc in the mortal realm
