"If you have any questions after class, give your pendant a nice three taps and an appointment will be made. Each of the pendants has an ID number in it so I'll know who's asking for it." Ms Kaitlynn explained the usage of the pendant to the students.
"Of course, I'll do the same when I have tasks for you all too." she tapped the heart clover earring on her right ear and it produced a bell sound in their head that lasted for a few seconds.
"You can keep your hat now and we'll move on to the briefing."
Ms Kaitlynn gave a concise explanation of the definition of Magic Cure in Medicine.
"As you all know, there are two types of diseases or illnesses in our society. One would be the normal diseases that can be treated using conventional methods. The other is what we called as magic-based diseases."
"It's a much wider area of the medical field, making it less explored compared to normal diseases due to how vast our society is. Magic-based diseases' symptoms can vary according to the patient's race and it can be tricky to diagnose."
"But that doesn't mean we can just recruit anyone to be a doctor specialized in treating these diseases. Magic-based diseases are known for being highly hazardous and can backfire on the doctor if not handled carefully."
"There are still so many researches that need to be done to improve the treatments. That's why we only train a limited number of students each year in Hertbane High to ensure and preserve the best quality doctors and nurses in the future."
"Make sure to study hard but most important, study properly. We'll be counting on you all to a more advanced and brighter future."
"That's all."
The whole classroom was silent even after Ms Kaitlynn finished her speech. The students felt the weight of their responsibility right off the bat.
Ms Kaitlynn looked through her new batch of students' profiles earlier and they had taken at least some form of medical lessons. Some were long-term students while some studied it as their pastime. The overall result this year was satisfying.
Out of all the students, she noticed there was only one without a speck of history in medicine; her class's number three - Zordyz Mildkir. His profile has all been sports, sports and more sports, with great achievements from grade school to junior high.
His grades were average at best but he did great in last week's exam.
Ms Kaitlynn looked at Zordyz who was yawning at the back of the class. He doesn't look like someone interested in studying. The students sitting in the row in front of him were intimidated by his presence. His looks were definitely out of place in this classroom.
'Well, that's an interesting boy. I'm looking forward to seeing his performance.'
"Let's start today's lesson."
"I know that the lessons and training you received in junior high were all for normal diseases but that's the most important base for you. You need to know an extensive amount of treatments for normal diseases before we can even touch on magic-based diseases."
"Aside from that, you also have to excel in magic theory. Those were all tested in the exam and I see that you've done well on that too."
"We'll begin with the magic theory for medicine. Pay attention and take note on the essential points. I'll be asking questions before the class ends."
The lesson lasted for two and a half hours.
In that period of time, Zordyz lost count of how many times he yawned. He did not fall asleep but he was too sleepy to focus. Sitting next to the window helped kept him awake as he got plenty of fresh air.
Ms Kaitlynn would occasionally stop and ask questions to keep everyone's attention on her. Zordyz was asked a few questions in a row since he was barely listening but he managed to answer them correctly anyway.
He already read through the first year's books, so answering surface questions were easy. Ms Kaitlynn and the rest were impressed by how casually he answered them all.
Yuenelia knew how hard he studied for the exam so it was no surprise that he studied for the lesson ahead of time too.
By the time the class ended, Zordyz was already lying flat on the desk.
"Never thought that studying is even more tiresome than playing sports. All this sitting is making me more tired than when I moved my body the whole day," he grumbled, letting out a puff of air.
"Hehe."
He heard a chuckle and looked up.
"Are you awake yet? Let's go home, sleepyhead." Yuenelia tidied up his desk as she talked.
"Yeah, can't wait to get home and crash." Zordyz yawned as he stuffed everything into his bag and threw it over his shoulder.
Aexiq, who was looking from the distant asked Triniekit by the exit. "Are they a couple?"
Triniekit followed Aexiq's eyes and found the people he was mentioning.
"They? You mean Yuenelia and Zordyz?"
Aexiq nodded.
