Two weeks passed by in a blink of an eye for Zordyz who has been doing nothing but holing himself up at home to study.
He was determined to get full marks for the qualification test.
He powered through three years worth of medical lessons which he didn't take in junior high. Even his mother was amazed at how fast he grasped all the time-consuming theories and research papers.
After waking up early and sleeping late for the past two weeks, he was completely exhausted. To him, studying was more tiring than playing sports. The moment he finished everything he needed for the test, he reverted back to his old habits. It became impossible for his mother to wake him up early anymore.
She had to drag him out of the house at the last minute.
"Yue, you have got to get him to school today. The test is this afternoon right?" Milya dumped Zordyz on Yuenelia as she spoke.
"Y-Yes," Yuenelia answered with trembling legs. "We'll get there on time."
"Zor, you're too heavy!"
"Mo-noso!" Milya cast a spell on Zordyz.
"Aunt Milya!" Yuenelia exclaimed, surprised at her action.
"I just made him lighter, it's easier for you to take him to school. Or do you have another solution? Look at him." Milya said as she pointed her chin at her son.
Zordyz was still sleeping without a care in the world. He only managed to get dressed before falling asleep again.
Yuenelia was a petite girl, she can't imagine herself carrying Zordyz all the way to school in his condition.
"Can you cast it again, Aunt Milya? He's still too heavy for me," she requested shyly.
"Sure. Mo-noso!" Milya cast the spell on Zordyz again, making him lighter than before. "Sorry for the trouble, little Yue. I'll treat you to some cake this weekend."
"We'll be going then."
"Take care."
Yuenelia took their usual shortcut to school through the park. Lucky for her, their neighbourhood and the park were always quiet in the morning. Or else she would have died of embarrassment.
Milya has made Zordyz as light as possible, he was practically floating along.
'I can't carry you into the school like this. Your reputation will suffer.' Yuenelia thought as she cancelled the spell and laid Zordyz on the bench.
It's a surprise he was able to sleep through all that.
"Zor, wake up! You have to get to school on your own two feet." she shook him hard.
He woke up all drowsy, not knowing where he was.
Yuenelia quickly tidied up his hair and asked him to stand up.
"Hungry..." he yawned, scratching his head and messing up his hair again.
"Eat this and let's go. We're running late here!" Yuenelia threw a packet of bun in his face, smacking him awake.
Zordyz was not going to complain about that, it's food after all. He finished the bun in a few bites and followed her to school.
The morning was tough as he struggled to stay awake. He usually either spaces out or enjoys watching people playing sports on the school field outside the window but he never sleeps in class.
"Bro, you okay?" Ayden checked on Zordyz.
"Yeah." Zordyz turned to look at him.
"Whoa, scary!" Ayden whistled.
His usual face has always been cold but today it was especially bad. He tried hard to not fall asleep, as a result, his face was in a permanent frown all day. It's as if he was glaring at everyone he meets. The rest of the class steered clear from him.
"Is it afternoon yet?" he asked, eyes barely open.
"Class is over. You're free to sleep now." Ayden ensured him.
Zordyz collapsed on the table and slept as soon as Ayden said so. There is an hour break before afternoon class or activity starts.
"Will he be able to wake up for the test later? He crashed hard." Ayden turned to ask Yuenelia.
"He will. Your captain is not that weak." Yuenelia said softly. "He won't let his own effort go to waste."
Zordyz has always been a quiet sleeper. He rarely snores even on his most tiring days. The slight frown he had on was adorable and the girls from other classes swooned over him from afar.
"What are you all crowding at the doorway for? Get back to your class!"
Sybil was not amused from all the commotion and snapped at the girls, causing them to flee.
It was her first time seeing Zordyz sleep in class and she wanted to enjoy watching him sleep. All the noise might even wake Zordyz up. She doesn't want anyone to disturb him.
The bell chimed as the one hour break was up. Zordyz got through his sleepiness to attend the two-hour test.
As the teacher collected the test papers, Zordyz gave himself a good stretch. All his exhaustion was gone at the moment.
"Did you do well?" Yuenelia asked as she walked towards him.
"Heh, I can get through it with guts alone. What do you worry about?" he grinned.
"Says the person who burned the midnight oil." she stuck out her tongue.
"Ah, shut it."
