On a bench near the pond in Livipier Park sat two teenagers; a boy and a girl, looking at each other. A weird conversation was happening between them.
"Urm...who were you again?" the boy asked the girl sitting beside him with a confused look on his face.
"Oh no, not again! I'm your neighbour! I live opposite your house since we're three!" the girl explained. She's clearly frustrated with the boy.
"I don't think I know you. You look weird." the boy started to distance himself from the girl.
The girl was not taking any of his nonsense! She held his head with both of her hands and knocked her forehead with his together.
"Ouch! What are you doing? Let go!" the boy winced in pain. He tried to move away but she wouldn't let go of him.
"Take a good hard look at me and remember!" she shouted at him. Her stare was stabbing into his eyes like knives.
The boy stared back, what was originally seconds felt like hours went by for the girl. She started to blush and pulled away from the lack of response.
'Enough of this! I've had enough! This is going nowhere!' she thought, tears forming in the corner of her eyes. She stood up from the bench and walked off.
She walked aimlessly around the park for the longest time, sitting and standing and walking from one bench to the next. Her pleated skirt swaying softly in the wind.
Her heart squeezed in pain whenever she thought about her best friend forgetting about her again. She thought about giving the boy's mother a call to tell her that her son had temporary amnesia again but she will probably brush it off as a joke just like last time.
After a long sigh, her tears started to fall. This has been their conversation for the past nine years. Once in a while, the boy will just up and forget everything about her. It came as a shock when it first happened in 2nd grade. She cried for a whole day only to have him remembering everything again the next day.
And that was the start of their never-ending bickering between them when it happened again and again. She thought he was messing with her but he insisted he really can't remember what he did or said when he had his episodes.
As she was wiping her tears away, a cold can of soda touched her face. She flinched.
"Hey, what are you up to here alone?"
She looked up to find the boy smiling at her.
"Wha...Why are you crying?" he was taken aback, the soda in his hand almost spilt on the floor.
"Go away, you don't recognize me. I'm not someone you know." the girl turned her head away from the boy.
"What are you talking about? Of course, I know you! Did you knock your head at a tree or something?" the boy frowned.
"Then, who am I? And who are you?" the girl asked without looking at him.
"What kind of dumb question is this?" he muttered to himself.
"You're Yuenelia Carvitler and I'm Zordyz Mildkir. We've been friends since we're in diapers. And we're currently second-year students taking Magic Cure in Medicine course in Hertbane High. Satisfied?" he rolled his eyes.
"En, satisfied." she gave a short answer. Her face lit up. Her anger dissipated immediately.
"We've been on this issue for ages. I didn't forget you and I did this introduction for hundreds of times, thousands even," he said, pinching the space between his brows.
"You're the one who keeps forgetting and we have to go through this introduction countless times. You can't blame me, can you?" Yuenelia pouted.
Zordyz was not able to argue about that matter. He was just messing with her anyway.
She turned around. "I'll forget about you if you do that again!" said Yuenelia out of frustration.
Zordyz smirked. "Nah, you won't. You can never forget me!"
But, never in his life did he expect it to really happen in the near future.
