Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

Aya Reyes held her mobile phone on one hand while she clutched a small hand on the other. She briskly urged the little one to walk faster. "Come on, son, you are going to be late for school," she said, taking a glance at the activity tracker that also serves as a watch on her left wrist. A few more minutes and the little kid might be late.

"I'm hurrying, momma," chirped the sweet, cute voice of the little boy behind her.

The duo managed to reach the school in record time. Aya stood outside her little boy's school campus. "You remember what I told you? Kei."

Kei nodded and listed, "I will be good. No fighting with my classmates. I will eat my snacks. I will put the rubbish in the trash bin. I will be courteous and I will not argue with teacher."

"Very good." Aya patted her six-year-old's head and hugged him real quick. "Now, give me a kiss so I can go back to work."

Kei smiled brightly and gave his mom two kisses on her right cheek. He then hugged her. "Bye, mom! See you later!"

"I'll pick you up later and don't speak with strangers," Aya called out as she watched the little one go.

She then walked towards the bus stop. As she walked down the street she noticed a shiny thing. Picking it up, she saw a tear-shaped green stone.

"This looks like jade. Might be a pendant. It looks like what that male lead in an animé wore," she chuckled, remembering the character she used to watch. Rummaging through her pocket, she found a red string and tied it up.

"Perfect! Now, tie it as an accessory. Hope you bring me lots of luck," she giggled, and kissed the jade. She then put it in her pocket, intending to string it to her phone when she goes back home. Or maybe she can make it as a bracelet charm? Have to look up all those bracelet string videos to use as guide. Hmm.

Waiting for the bus, she thought about her life. Everything is not going fine. She lived in their family manor just 8 kilometers away from her son's school.

Even though she was married to her son's father, the guy lacked the qualities of being a good husband and provider. He often abuse her physically and emotionally. Aya was fed up with how they were treated as charity cases by the guy and his family. She went back home to rear her kid on her own.

School will be done in five hours, so she can still go home. Or if she can't pick Kei up, she'll ring her brother to pick up his nephew. She had a lot of novels to edit and proofread, so she have to really rush home.

The one-hour ride home is making her feel bored, so she opened up her mobile game and started playing. She turned off the sound because she does not want to disturb other people, and she is annoyed as well.

Too focused on her mobile game, she didn't noticed that the jade was shining dimly in her pocket and she missed seeing how a fast truck was coming their way.
