After a few hours, Bhram decided to stay in the library, furthermore, he promised the old lady and Phillip that he will follow all the rules as well as face the consequences if the rules were ever violated.
He knew nothing about the outside world, he had no power to support him and worst off he didn't have a basic skill set to earn money, to feed himself.
A day had passed by.
"Bhram, take care of yourself. I hope to see you again and Lady Jinny, I'm very grateful for taking care of my granddaughter and now Bhram… I... I will take her belongings now.." Phillip said.
He didn't wait for any reply from the old lady or Bhram, he said goodbyes and walked into the teleportation portal.
Bhram looked at the ugly frog named 'Raven' panting heavily.
"Madam, I had a doubt. Would you mind clarifying it to me?" Bhram asked the old lady.
"Sure"
"Ever since I have traveled from the ship to this planet, I tried using this computer given by Sir. Jules. But for some reason it seems to not work" said Bhram as he took out a black brick-like object from his pant pockets.
"Oh.. that, it's simple. You see, it's a communication device connected to the Warships mother computer and you are currently out of the mother computers range & most cultivators avoid using this model computer because its expensive and its footprint is huge"
"Expensive? Foot Print?" questioned Bhram.
"Hmm... it's like, this model is meant to be used only within the range of the Mother computer is connected and the fuel cell for it is relatively more expensive than a normal device, also footprint means that it can be used as a tracking device similar to the earings your wearing; all military types of equipment are tracked and it's a liability to most cultivators, as most of us have like out privacy and besides we cultivate a strong memory"
"You see, this library is not just a library. But, a public display of the Imperial court wealth and its encouragement to common folk to exchange their contribution to the court to gain…"
"Wait… you said this thing is a liability, then are you saying that most of the cultivators can have a picture-perfect memory of almost everything they come across"
"Yes"
"Then what is the purpose of this library, doesn't it mean that if one person reads it once he can also make multiple copies and make a huge profit, also why will anyone steal a book if they can memorize it?"
"Ah.. kid, I'm very busy now. You 'Raven' lead this boy to the 'L-Section' on the ground floor. Kid, you will find all the things you're looking for there and also lose that computer, its useless without its connection to the mother computer, the translator is useful tho … its practically priceless in a place like this"
The old lady 'winked' and vanished from her spot and the Raven looked at Bhram and 'Crocked'
"Follow…me…. Kid" said the frog as it started hopping along a path.
Bhram was a young boy who was curious about everything. At his home, he was considered a rich scholar who taught rich aristocrats the basics of equities and fundamental knowledge of 'Science'.
Since his childhood, he was curious about the purpose of life, the working of the world, the stars, and nature. He had died in search of a flower which was said to be born from the blood essence of an immortal, now since his death (Coma) and being exposed to the wonders of space he became curious and started questioning everything.
Even now, as they were going for the 'L-Section' he kept asking random questions to the frog. Initially, the frog patiently answers all his questions, but as the questions became too basic, it became annoying and just pointed out a direction for Bhram to follow.
Bhram tried to stop him but he failed to do so as the frog was extremely swift.
'Sigh... I should have asked him about something more complicated
Bhram reached the 'L-Section' and he randomly picked up a book to read.
[Access Denied-Contribution points of 100 required]
He was not able to lift the book from the shelf, he tried a few other books and was only able to lift a book that looked brand new as if never been touched.
["History for Noobs"] the title was displayed.
'Noobs?... '
He picked another book and it displayed ["How to cultivate for idiots!"]
Almost all the books Bhram was able to lift from the 'Book Shelf' had an Odd name and they looked brand new.
'Well, I can't read any other book ….' With a chuckle, he picked up 5 books and started reading.
He was so immersed in reading that, he failed to notice a few people had entered the 'L-Section'.
"Pff… look at that idiot, he must have spent 10 gold coins for reading a few trash books," said a man in his mid-twenties.
"Sh.. don't bother with him, we have spent all our money just to search for the book of alchemy. If we miss it again, the teacher will kill us" said a man in his 40s.
The Duo didn't disturb Bhram and entered the 1st floor of the library.
It took Bhram a day and a night to finish 1 book on 'Cultivation'.
"Gr…" his stomach started growling.
Bhram, stood up and placed the books back on the shelf, and went to search for a café.
"Boy… come… here… the Lady… has asked me to give this…" said the raven as it stuck out its tongue.
When Bhram heard the voice he just saw a huge green tongue, just inches from his face.
'WTF!!!'
He instinctively reached out his hand to block his face, just as he was about to close his eyes he saw a white card stuck on his tongue and it had his image on it.
"The…. Lady… told me… that it was…. Your identity… card… you can get free*… food… and it….has a deposit of 20 Silver…. 200 contribution points…. and also a map to …..the area you're…. in charge of and to ….. your room" the frog croaked and immediately disappeared after finishing its task.
'Hmm.. card, maybe I can read that book..' RUMBLE'…maybe after some Food'
He placed his index finger on the card.
['Welcome. Bhram. Please place a drop of blood to complete the access procedure'] said a voice from the card.
'Blood..?, hmm' Bhram thought for a minute and bit his finger.
A bright blue blood drop was dropped onto the 'Card'.
After that, the card disappeared and an image of the library's front gate was tattooed onto the back of his hand.
Bhram was stunned for a few minutes before he felt a splitting headache, 'Shit... Not this again'
He knew that it was a form of knowledge transfer, he had experienced it before when he received an old man's memory.
He had tried to extract a few memories but he had always felt intense pain during those sessions, furthermore, most of his attempts didn't yield any results. He felt that he had been given a heavenly opportunity, but his inability to decode it gave him a bitter-sweet feeling.
['Error-Memory transfer': Kindly change the settings to LOW]
'How the fuck should I change it?... Ah!!! MF…MFS! My head is about to explode ''Change to LOW! 'already' Bhram screamed in his head.
['Command accepted' Settings changed to LOW; Note: some functions can not be activated in LOW settings]
'Ah..Ah..' Bhram started panting and his entire body was covered in sweat.
'Shit, if this were my first time I would have died. Fuck that 'Frog' I should rost him and feed him to a stary dog'
He looked at his condition, the symbol on his hand now had a golden 'G' symbol on it. When he thought about the café, an image of the café with a few directions started popping up in his head.
'Amazing!'
