I tried to run from the scene, but I stood rooted to my place! I felt this indescribable fear that paralyzed me from moving! Is this the power of the shinigami?! Even though he is not looking at me his aura is so strong that it can reach to where I am and immobilize me!
Lucky enough, I am still behind the big stone tablet that is blocking me from his view. But sadly it can't block my view on Mayu and what the shinigami is doing to her! His whip hit Mayu's waist and then it split into two! It slowly but surely wrapped around her trying to bind her whole body!
Mayu being a fighter, used her mist powers in full force! Her beautiful short brown hair turned black, her eyes had also turned all black instead of white unlike what I saw she did before at the train! Her black mist also changed. It is so condensed now that if a human passed by they will be able to see it from far away!
Her free hand swung as if trying to slash the shinigami. Her mist formed into a shape and turned into a giant claw and followed her movement. The shinigami unperturbed by her move just swatted her mist claws as if swatting a fly and her claw mist instantly disappeared!
But Mayu still didn't give up! She tried again, but this time she tried to copy the shinigami's weapon and changed her mist to a shape of a whip and aimed for the head! She had multiple whips aiming for the shinigami! I looked at the old man and he was just standing there like it was none of his business very lax.
Like what he did with the Mayu's mist claws, he just swatted them and all of the whips that Mayu launched at him dissipates like he was just fanning his hands to clear the smoke being blown his way! This old dude is soo OP!
Even though I can't see the face but the shinigami looked chill like it didn't bother him that Mayu was resisting and even retaliating but when he spoke I can hear the anger in his voice. "(You dared to resist and escape punishment?! You are bold!)" He shouted at her and he snapped his fingers.
After he did that, the whip that was slowly coiling around Mayu gave out this eerie black glow. After that happened, Mayu's big black thick mist was instantly gone! I didn't know what he did to his whip but it's like he had magically and forcefully restraint Mayu's powers.
Mayu's body jerked as if suffering a backlash for her powers being forcefully dispersed! I can hear her suddenly scream as if in pain and tried to struggle free from the whip that is continuing covering her.
"(Noooo! You can't do this to me! Hiro needs me! Hiiirrrrrooooo!)" She was screaming Hiro's name and stretching her arm towards the direction where Hiro was. But the whip of the shinigami continued until she was wrapped from head to toe!
And with a flick of his hand, the whip suddenly squeezed Mayu, and in seconds there was this 'puff' sound and Mayu's body was gone! My eyes widen at what I saw! Did she dispersed and never to come back again?! Will that happen to me as well once he caught me?! I don't want to disappear yet and I haven't traveled the world and not see my family for the last time!
I closed my eyes and willed myself to move again. The fear that I felt from looking at the shinigami had lessened since I closed my eyes that were looking at him. I tried to avoid looking at his hood and move slowly as to not caught his attention by idiotically moving quickly, but unfortunately, he still sensed me and looked at my direction!
He walked slowly toward my direction, I was about to sprint when he shouted. "(Halt! Why are you wandering around here! What is your name!?") He was shouting something at me but I can't understand anything that he is saying!
I just stared at him with fear in my eyes. "(Why aren't you answering? I haven't seen you here before and there was no notice about a new spirit with your face being posted on our list. Speak now or you will regret it!)" He kept on saying something.
I tried to do sign language and use some Nihongo words that I know and from watching anime. "Wakaranai! Nihongo, iie. Eigo, hai onegai!" I made gestures of an X and a circle with my arms and bowed, hoping that he will understand me.
"(What the fuck are you talking about?! Are you making fun of me?!)" He sounded angry! Oh no! I need to distract him and run away!
While I was thinking that, without doing anything he did become distracted! I saw his head looked up to the sky as if looking at something! At that moment I thought that it's now or never and I should run for my life or rather my afterlife!
Without thinking much I dashed out of his range and went towards the direction I came from and then I'll just hide somewhere safe and then relocate again once the coast is clear. It can't be that this old man is too idle as to hunt me down right?
While trying to remember the paths I took when I followed Mayu, I didn't notice a flash of light coming from the sky. Before I knew it there was a ray of light shot in front of me! I didn't have enough time to react and wasn't able to stop in time, but since it's just a ray of light I should be able to just go through it, right?
Thinking like that with eyes shut closed and with a leap of faith, I dashed through the light! But I didn't expect what happened next… I hit my face real hard and bounced back, with my butt hitting the hard ground! What the fuck?! I'm a ghost! I shouldn't get hurt or feel pain by slamming my head on a hard pole made of light or even hitting the ground!
Cursing that pole and my unlucky day, I rubbed my butt to ease the pain and my other hand went towards my face. I gingerly touched my nose and my lips if they were still okay. I was hoping that there are not weirdly misshapen due to the impact. I know I watch too much anime and horror film, but I don't want to be like those ghost that is like clay that is easily squished or something when force is applied.
The light had dimmed down and little by little the light went out. Still nursing my hurt butt and face, my eyes slowly look up towards where the pole that I hit was. But instead of a sturdy steel pole, I saw a pair of feet. Since he was wearing a robe, I can't see the body shape. But when I looked up to see the face, my eyes widen in shock at what I saw!
