Chapter 39 - As A Wife, Shouldn't You Stand By My Side In My Hard Times?

Evil thing! Did she mean tumor? How cute granny!

Qin Bohai also glared at his wife, "As a wife, shouldn't you stand by my side in my hard times? What are you complaining about?"

"Standing by your side?" Lin Qiang contemplated her husband scoffingly over the top of her glasses.

"That would still be okay, but you made me rub your head the entire night for the past few days! If I didn't force you to consult with a doctor, you would have had a harder time later; thus, instead of being angry at me, you should thank me." With a clear conscience, and of course a bit of contemptuous criticism, Lin Qiang let her own sense of superiority jog Qin Bohai's memory.

Qin Bohai suddenly didn't know what to say.

Mian coughed lightly in order to announce her presence. She would love to enjoy their lovely banter, however, it was not the time for that.

"There are a few more things you have to abide by. For instance, you can't smoke because tobacco straitens blood vessels and diminishes the supply of oxygen to your body tissues. It can delay healing, recovery and also increases the risk of having complications after surgery." Mian's amicable expression was replaced by an austere one, as she proscribed smoking.

Qin Bohai was listening very attentively, afraid of missing any important information; thus, he was quick to reply. "I have already scaled it down."

"It's also because of me! You used to be a chain smoker. You should thank me for that as well." Lin Qiang pumped her chest in pride, as she did a great deed.

Mian strictly prescribed total avoidance of cigarette, then went to the next point, "Being morbidly obese not only attracts many diseases but also affects the recovery of the surgery, so you should definitely improve your diet plan, also rule out alcohol from beverage list. Did you take any painkillers for headaches?"

"I took inflammatory pain medication sometimes as the pain was unbearable. Those tablets took the edge off the headache."

Mian pinched the space between her eyebrows. "Guessed so, you have to stop that, Sir. Orthodox painkillers are not analeptic. Although, they alleviate the pain, they can't uproot the cause of the problem; which is why, you can't take those medications for long run. Long-term exposure to them leads to a chronic kidney problem. Also, they will increase the risk of bleeding during surgery."

This time Lin Qiang was the first one to answer, "Understood doctor, I won't let him take those medicines."

"Bring me your medical history tomorrow. You need to give me details, including any vitamins, supplements, street drugs, everything."

Every medicine had its effect and side effects. Mian didn't want to take any risk, especially when the patient was in his seventies.

"Got it, anything else Dr.?" The oldman was very eager to know everything, as he desperately wanted to get better soon.

"I'm gonna prescribe you some tests which you need to undergo. ECG to check your heart, X-Ray your chest to check your lungs, Urine test to check whether your kidneys are working properly and to check infection, Blood test to check your blood count, blood sugar, kidney and liver function and your risk for bleeding." Everything flowed out of Mian's mouth very fluently, yet smoothly.

The old couple understood every single reason behind the tests; however they couldn't store the whole information in their brain intact, before one thing messed up with another one.

Anyway, they didn't intend to memorize it in the first place, as long as Dr. Mian could cure him, that was all.

Looking at Mian both of them nodded their heads in understanding. "We should leave now then. We will come again tomorrow."

Mian rose from her chair, did a quick clean up of herself, then went to the canteen. She had fifteen minutes before the next appointment, and her stomach grumbled in hunger.

By the time Mian reached there, it was bubbling with people. She stopped in the doorway of the canteen momentarily, before walking towards the assemblage of medical professionals, searching for a seat.

Everyone gathered around the counter to get their food, which was full of variety of food set out on shelves.

Mian weaved her way through a bevy of people that were emerging from the front with foods. She squeezed herself in, and took a bowl of rice porridge and vegetable dumplings.

Luckily, there was an empty table beside a window in the very last corner. Mian walked up there, and sat down.

Hospital Canteen's food was known to be always plain and healthy; and most of the time healthy food didn't taste delicious. However, it was undeniably clean and nutritious, that was the fact Mian was most satisfied with.

"Can I sit down here?"

Just as, she was about to take her first spoonful of porridge, the words rang beside her side; before she could understand the words, a tall handsome man appeared before her eyes.

Mian tilted her head, casually throwing, "Yeah."

As the canteen was a public place, obviously she couldn't occupy the whole table by herself, that too when there was no other empty seat in the whole canteen.

Sitting down on the chair opposite of her, the handsome fellow stared at Mian, as he ran a hand through his roasted caramel coloured wavy hair.

The sun was flowing out sunshine with its full vigor overhead, and sent its slanting rays through the window, to strike straight Mian's face making it appear almost translucent and glistening.

Mian's beauty overpowered Zhang Shen's equilibrium. The way sun sinks half below the horizon, before the night embraces the earth with his darkness, Zhang Shen already drowned himself half in Mian's beauty, unbeknownst to the consequence waited for him.

"I'm Zhang Shen, Cardiologist."

Mian looked up, her gaze lifted to the man and he smiled as he put his hand forward.

Zhang Shen wasn't strikingly handsome like Mu Yuhaan. However, he was considered quite good looking, resembling somewhat like Jeon Jung-kook, from BTS; coupled with his bright future, and the wealth he inherited from his family, he was a sought after husband material for many female doctors and nurses of First People's Hospital.

Mian put down her chopsticks, then briefly shook her hand with him. "Li Mian, Neurosurgeon. Nice to meet you." She gave him a small smile politely.

"It's my pleasure! I was actually looking forward to meeting you. I heard about you having a 100% success rate, and the people given title Doctor The Miraculous. Nowadays, everybody is talking about you in the hospital. You have saved a child with a five percent survival chance on your first day here. Very Impressive!"
