First, the word 'monopolize' and now wiggling eyebrows, Mian couldn't help but cringe inwardly.
Nonetheless, to this, Mian's answer slightly stunned Nina, who thought Mian became completely immune to pheromone attacks, after burying herself in those thick medical books for years.
"Well, to be honest he is very handsome. Speaking in your language, he is an eye candy. You know, seeing him will be like a feast to the eyes." Mian said matter of factly.
Nina suddenly didn't know what to say.
However, the guy didn't vibe with her, wanting to snatch their Mian from them! He wouldn't be able to flow well with their family.
"You better maintain your distance from him lest you should fall in love with him and get isolated from us. I'm telling you beauty always brings crisis!" Nina warned, pretending to be serious.
Mian, "....."
"What?" Nina asked, hunching up a little and rotating her both palms halfway through.
She, then jumped from the countertop, pulled out a drawer, bringing out stain prevention tooth wipes, which came individually packaged, before ripping it open.
Being the highest paid model of China, Nina had to always take care of her looks. In fact, She used more eatables in her facial mask, than in her food.
She wrapped a tooth wipes around her forefinger, held it with thumb, then started wiping her teeth, to prevent stains from coffee.
Mian was silent for a while, before voicing out her guilty mind slowly, "Maybe I was harsh with him."
Nina shook her head no, then said, "You never become harsh with anyone unless they ask for it."
She grabbed a cucumber from the fruit basket. Rinsing it under water, she took a peeler knife to remove the peel. Usually, she did the job with her own teeth, then laid the peels aside randomly, but with Mian around, that was out of question!
"Yeah, but he is different."
"Oh, how so?" Nina asked curiously, then began eating the cucumber flesh.
"What I mean is, he is a little abnormal." Mian washed the cups with soap and water, then wiped her hands dry with paper towels.
"Will you bother to elaborate that?" Crossing the threshold into the living room, Nina flounced into the sofa, then grabbed a cushion before fluffing it.
Mian also sat down beside her.
"Actually the other day, we were talking about his family. He said his parents and both younger brothers live in states. He lives here alone, and moreover he is mentally unstable. Although he is thirty, he behaves like a five year old. Perhaps, he misses his family and nobody here wants to talk to him because of his abnormal behaviour. Thus, when he found me, he was just trying to fill in the void. After all, we all are social animals so we need company, a little bit of care and support. However, just now, I shut the door on his face, despite being aware of his mental condition. He must've become sad. Should I say sorry to him?" Mian bit down on her lip, her chest filled with regret.
"What? Are you already wrapped up in him?" Nina bore a good-humoured attitude while teasing. "Don't tell me, you have already fallen in love with him?" There was an expression of carefree cheerfulness on her face.
Mian rolled her eyes, "Keep me out of these love and affairs. I'm not into them, and you know this fact better than anyone else."
"Well, love exists, and one day you will definitely experience it. However, make sure that person is suitable for us as well. Mommy will never approve of, you know, someone mentality unstable…" Nina intentionally gave an awkward laugh, that only lasted for a count.
Hearing this, Mian felt somewhat speechless. The way Nina practically whined, it made it seem very realistic.
Nina looked at Mian; then suddenly, as if figuring out something, she exclaimed, "Don't follow my suit! Mommy daddy has only both of us, thus, at least one of us has to get married! Otherwise, mommy will blast! For me, marriage is forbidden, so it's only you!"
Mian showed a bland expression, then said without much thinking, "Don't even plan on starting to center this whole conversation around my wedding! Moreover, It had always been you, interested in these matters, not me."
Nina threw the half eaten cucumber in the dustbin, as she lost her appetite.
The word love was deeply associated with the man, who had been ruling over the temple of her heart single handedly, for years. The pain slumbering inside Nina's resurfaced, causing her to space out for a while.
After it seemed like one minute or so, Nina opened her mouth, and asked slowly, "If he didn't leave me, do you think, I would be single now? We would have two or three kids by now." Nina's voice cracked at the end of her last sentence. When she finished, her cheeks were streamed with tears.
She came away from this part of life with her heart broken, and all her wishes of marriage and having kids stopped dead in its tracks.
Mian was slightly stunned at Nina's obstinacy about not finding love ever again.
She wasn't very knowledgeable about the mushy stuffs, however, she tried to give it a shot from her perspective. "Love is an intense feeling of deep affection. You still love him, that I can understand. However, you shouldn't stop your soul from reconnecting with someone else."
"One love with one life, and both are gone from my world! Now, I'm dead despite breathing!"
The bottled up pain and heartache exploded, and explained the sudden outbursts that formed an unswallowable lump in Nina's throat and filled her eyes with tears.
She wasn't a crybaby. It was only him and anything related to him that was capable of bringing tears to her eyes.
Mian hugged Nina tightly, "Don't cry Nin.. please don't cry. You have to get out of it, he can't come back. It's been 6 years."
Tears were rolling down Mian's both cheeks as well, and they twinkled on her snow-white face catching the sunshine.
"Why? Why did he leave me? Didn't he promise not to leave me ever? What happened to that promise?! He used to say, he couldn't tolerate my tears. However, he didn't think what I would go through, if he left me. Liar! Those were empty promises!" Nina was literally shaking while crying, she was bawling her eyes out.
