Chapter 6 - Who are You?

*Flashback*

*'If he swims this way I'll be trapped! I need to get out of here.' Wren made her aura shrink as small as possible, knowing that if David could find her within his own mind, there's no way he couldn't track her now.

The shallow cave that David and Wren were in, was shrouded in silence. All that either one could hear was the gentle sound of water dripping from the roof of the cave along with light rustling of the trees and grass just outside. A small amount of light came in through the entrance of the cave and dyed the surrounding area faintly orange. The cold blue colored water had light ripples starting from David, due to his breathing, and went out towards the edge of the lake. The gentle breeze reached to the place where Wren hid behind the large rock, causing her to shiver; she had momentarily forgotten that she was drenched and was now cold.

Wren hoped this would be over soon. 'Why did he follow me? How did he-' Wren's thoughts were interrupted when she heard the noise of the water moving again. David was getting closer to Wren's hiding spot. His agile movements only making faint splashing noises as he moved closer. She knew he was trying to keep quiet but also find her location, "Miss, who are you? How...how were you in my mind just now? I know this may look bad, but I have no intention to harm you. I can tell you know this place better than I do, so you have the advantage over me. Trust in that knowledge and show yourself. I promise no harm will come to you..."

David gently tried to coax the girl out from where ever she was hiding. He really didn't want to harm her. He was just confused and just wanted information. "...Close your eyes." Wren ordered David, hoping he would listen to her request. She was not sure if David had any intention to do so, until she felt a slight jolt to her body, making her gasp. When she realized he did as she ordered, she was relieved and focused on his thoughts once again. She didn't trust him enough to stand face to face, but if she could occupy his mind long enough and talk with him, she could then easily escape the cave and things could continue the way they were originally intended.

After getting fully out of the water, David found a large rock and relaxed his body against it as he kept his eyes shut. The sun had warmed the surface just enough for it to alleviate the cold he was feeling. His eyes had only been closed a few seconds and he began to see a faint light approaching him and he quickly opened his eyes fearing someone was going to attack. But when he opened his eyes he couldn't believe what he was seeing. This was no longer the inside of a cave, it was a place he knew very well. It was a place he often fled to when the city life became to much stress for him to handle. He was in awe of this sudden change, then he noticed the girl from before, sitting on the dock with her back towards him, with her feet slowly moving across the water.

He was shocked, but then understood this must be her doing, "Sorry, I didn't poke around much, I just had to find a place that would be somewhere familiar to you, somewhere you would enjoy as quickly as I could so your mind would be more receptive." Wren never looked up from the water, but she could hear slow and heavy footsteps coming up to her. "You can sit down here if you would like. I don't have much time seeing as I'm deep in my own mind right now and could be woken up at any moment. So just listen and if there is enough time I will try to answer any questions you have. Deal?" David sat down next to her, "It's a deal Miss..." "My name is...Wren...Sorry for all the mess David."

David was slightly taken aback to hear her say his name, then remembered she had been inside his mind and she had probably gathered as much. "To make a long story as short as possible, I do in fact live on this island that your men are currently attacking. During this time, I am only 7 years old, this is the start of the 7 years of war that caused our people so much pain and suffering. My current adult self if in a hospital, and the war has ended and almost 9 years have passed since then." She started slowly to gage his reaction and see if anything made sense to him. He simply nodded and looked towards her.

"I am not sure how I got here, but I've had this dream before, only this time I was more aware of my surrounding and I heard you and your men talking in the distance. When I located you, I summoned a spirit to use as a link between your mind and my own." David's face showed confusion, "I am a member of the Kalina Clan, which occupies the largest territory in the central region of the island. I have abilities that allow me to track, locate, and control spirits, teleport over long distances, and many more abilities that Tradeland natives are unaware of. Whether it be something simple like directing my aura, or as you saw earlier, going deep into someone's mind, using my energy, I can easily do tasks such as this."

David remained quiet as Wren spoke, only looking at her from time to time to see if she was being serious. During this same time in the cave, Wren had the ability to move freely, where David was immobile and sat lazily against a rock with his eyes closed, resembling the look of him taking a nap in the warmth of the sun. Wren reached down to check his pulse, then when she noticed it was normal, she straightened up and started walking outside the cave. She couldn't go too far, but she could get a safe enough distance away.

...Back inside David's mind, "I have control of my spiritual energy as well as surrounding nature energy where ever I go, making it very simple for me to control the spirits. If I encounter a spirit, I can offer them peace and help them move to the other side and I can temporarily use them to help me gather information, if they allow. You can say that I am a Priestess by day and I carry out missions for our clan at night. There are not many people outside of the island that have similar abilities with spirits as I do. You should not have been able to locate and then shoot me, that was very unexpected..."

David put his head down in embarrassment, "I'm sorry for that. You startled me; are you hurt?" Wren shook her head, "It only caused me to be forced out of your mind, I only felt a dull pain in my shoulder and my nose bled a little, nothing detrimental...It seems like you do not have much access to your ability, but you are aware that you are somehow different and known things people shouldn't be able to know, am I right? Regardless, I suggest you contact a fortune teller from the Island or the surrounding island to the south for guidance. Allow them to look into your mind like I am doing now and you will be fine. If they ask how you know this, simply use my name."

Wren turned towards David and gently put her hand on his shoulder. "This is as much information as I can give you. You will forget this discussion with me aside from knowing that you need to see a fortune teller. You won't even remember my name until you come in contact with one of them. It's to protect you as well as myself. I am sorry but I do not have time to answer any other question you may have. I do not trust your boss and I know he will want information about me. So tell him this," Wren leaned closer to David and whispered something in his ear. David closed his eyes as the light sensation of her whisper made him feel drowsy. When he opened his eyes, he was back in the cave, leaning against a large rock. He was confused but quickly found his way out of the cave towards the sound of his men.*

At the same time, Wren opened her eyes and saw the hospital room she was currently in, along with a woman laying on the couch, sound asleep. "That was definitely new..." Wren whispered to herself softly, then leaned back into her pillows with a small smile on her lips, waiting for her friend to wake up from her nap.
