Chereads / Doug: the Condor / Chapter 3 - Smile Version 2

Chapter 3 - Smile Version 2

Time seemed to slow into a grinding halt when a blurred flash flew past my right ear as I heard a disbelieving gasp come from behind me.

"Huh?" The short utters of confusion left my mouth. It was short and not enough to place my voice to a face if anyone heard it, but it was there. But as soon as I turned to face the newcomer, a thin and black riding crop came across my torso and knocked me across the roof past to where Roman was now boarding a freshly arriving Bi-Copter.

'Whoa! What the heck was that?! It felt like a truck just blindsided me! I guess David really did know what he was talking about Neo trying to save me.' My brain trying to keep up with the changing setting, pushes me to get back on my feet, dodging the incoming shrapnel of concrete as I do so.

Once I'm stable on my feet I see a Blonde with green stern eyes glare at me as she fights on with Neo. This is not going to end well. The best I can do is get on the Bi Copter and hop off later. I'm not ready to deal with a full fledged Huntress. Jumping on the aircraft I head to the pilots seat.

A woman in a skin tight red dress greets me.

"Its about time you got here. Why aren't you fighting? We don't pay you to just sightsee and babysit ya know?"

[Me? Fighting a telekinetic Huntress? Without my weapon? Very funny Cinder]

"Wait,Condor, where's your weapon?" she asked as her eyes turned into slits as she continuously heard gunshots from my weapon outside.

I turned my head away quickly and acted as if I didn't hear her as the fight escalated outside.

"YOU DIDN'T! TELL ME YOU DIDN'T!"

I began to pretend drawing on the window with my finger. Funny how I need to look out for her to stay on course when she does this for me all the time.

"YOU LET HER TAKE YOUR GUN AWAY AGAIN?! YOU USELESS, TAIL CHASING, NO GOOD, HORNY, LUST SEEKING-"

I showed her the suitcase i prepared beforehand.

"Dust getting, wonderful little thief you", her loud and angry persona quickly died as a doting mothers took over. "Now take control, while mommy goes and gets rid of the rude houseguests," She spoke like silky honey as she sashayed away out the pilot's room. It's easy to control her once you know her weaknesses.

By the time she came back and took control, Roman and I had finished our deal and I had gotten my gun back from Neo.

[There we go. One and a half million credits, as ordered.]

"And so much dust you can level an entire city in less time than I can say boom."

[^-^]

I wonder if this is how the other me leveled Vale to the ground.

"Ah and also, Neo, if you would kindly give Condor his weapon back..."

She strutted up to me and held out the handle of my pistol out. I reached out and she retracted it back out of my reach.

'Hmmm. Wanna be flirty huh?' I pulled my vest open for her to put it back from where she stole it from. And lo and behold she came and did just that. I'd be lying if I said that it didn't excite me but never in my life did I think my heart could pound so fast.

'This is absolute bliss, I wish this could last forever. Oh shoot! I almost forgot, I need to go get Rubes before she gets arrested by that Huntress!'

[Sorry guys this is my stop] I showed it to Cinder and she hovered over a deserted alleyway. I jumped out and watched them glide away at breakneck speeds. Once I glanced around and saw the coast was clear I began to change back into my original clothes. When I ran back to the store though, it was pretty much over. Everything was put back in its place, the front window to the store wasn't smashed to smithereens, damage to the store and street was fixed, and Ruby was gone.

'Great, now Dad is gonna kill me. Officially. Or, I can use this to my advantage?'

Doug had an ingenious plan to kill two birds with one stone.

The Next Day:

".....so let me get this straight. You went outside to head home, saw Roman Torchwick about to rob the Dust store, when some lady with pink white and brown hair knocked you out from behind before you could report it to the authorities?" The blonde haired, green eyed Glynda Goodwitch surmised my testimony.

I gave a firm nod.

"And you're positive you didnt see anyone else?"

I shook my head.

"Are you always this quiet?" She said as she placed down a plate of cookies in front of me on the single lamp lit table. I nodded again as I reached out and grabbed one. I kept my gaze on her as I tentatively began to nibble on the snack, more so her curving waistline. Am I easily attracted to women? No. But my eyes sure are.

*Ahem*

My eyes shot back up to hers.

"What about Ruby?" she asked loosley almost making me flinch. "You left her all alone in the store, anything we need to know about why that happened?"

'Here it is,' I thought. 'What makes or breaks me.'

I breathed a sigh, and was about to start speaking , when all of a sudden something came from behind me and grasped my right shoulder. As I turned to see what it was, what met my gaze was a man. This man was probably in his thirties, but his hair and demeanor didn't match his appearance. He had the hair of an old man that was fully gray or you can say whitish blonde. His circular glasses had transitional lenses, and he held a cane in his left hand.

"Ms. Goodwitch, I do believe young Doug here has at least a small right to some privacy when it comes to family. Don't you think?"

To be honest I was going to say I was going to go on a date. But this works for my good i think. Plus I doubt they'd really believe that sort of lie anyway. Someone as quiet as me doesn't fit the bill for going on dates anytime soon I guess..

"If you say so sir."

'Sir? Who is this guy, her superior?

"However I must ask of you; can you put up a fight as well as your sister Ruby?"

Is that a challenge? That sounds like a challenge. I really hope that is a challenge. I like challenges.

So much so that it puts a smile on my face.
