"She saved me from hell." Luo Jingyi whispered with a smile full of gratefulness towards Madam Lacroix.
'What kind of hell?' He meant to ask but it never slipped past his lips seeing that she was staring blankly like her mind was millions away. It was pointless to prod any longer. He reminded himself that patience was the driving force behind his success. Thus, he will apply the same concept to her. There's no secret in this world that he wouldn't find. Yet, he desired her to open about herself at her own accord.
Luo Jingyi was thinking back the day she came to this world and was in brief contemplation if he should tell him or not. In the end, her inner self decided against it, reminding her there was no reason for him to know.
From the side view mirror, she noticed the two cars following in succession ever since they left the hospital.
"Don't mind them. They're my security detail."
This information solidified her conjecture. Moreover, she has seen Aunt Alice's surprised expression earlier upon the man's announcement before the other woman tucked it away. It indicated she recognized him. Perhaps they belong to the same social circle. Ignoring the uneasy feeling that gnawed in her stomach, she closed her eyes and shut her head from doing all the thinking. It was easy to find it out yet laziness was pulling her back from doing so.
"We're here." Yun Jinghan announced when he parked the car right in front of an upscale jewelry store downtown.
"What are we doing here?" It was the first question that popped out of her mouth when she saw where they were.
"Buying props."
"We didn't have to." she protested after gleaning on what he meant. In fact, there was no need for a ring because it's only Alice and Antoine Lacroix who would know him as her 'fiancé.'
"How could there be an engagement without any ring?" he retorted before jumping out of the car.
Yun Jinghan got her there. So albeit the reluctance, Luo Jingyi got off the car without waiting for him to open the door for her, making the man shake his head in amusement.
Yun Jinghan called K2 who was sitting in another car that was stationed three buildings away from where he was standing. He ordered them to leave which K2 accepted without muttering words of protests. But unknown to Yun Jinghan, K2 immediately called the store manager and informed him to keep his eyes open. When the manager heard of this, he ran out of his office and went downstairs.
Meanwhile, two store attendants were at the door and greeted them in unison. The bright lighting and gleaming locked glass display cases were the first things she noted upon entry. One attendant ushered them inside a private room whilst the other served refreshments. The two moved in tandem like they had done it a hundred times. The establishment live with its reputation as the best jewelry brands in the country for the employees have the utmost professional grace in them. Even their steps were measured and their gestures were courteous. Unlike other places, where attendants were too bias. They'll judge your buying power according to how you appear on the surface.
Noting that she was quietly observing around without being too obvious, he took the glass of juice and handed it to her. The passing was done swiftly yet when his fingers brushed hers, she felt a jolt inside. Ignoring it, she sipped slowly and allowed the coolness of the drink to soothe her suddenly dry throat.
"I want to see the Charlotte series." Yun Jinghan told the attendant who was waiting patiently on the side.
"I am sorry sir. That is only possible for—" She wanted to say that only the store's VIP customers were privileged to buy this limited collection, however, the sudden pain coming from below closed her mouth shut and winced inwardly without letting the other people in the room feel it. Her wide smile never faded.
"I am sorry. My staff is still new here, Mr. Yun." It was her manager who spoke apologetically. He was the same person who stepped on her foot seconds earlier. The manager gestured her to leave in haste to take what Yun Jinghan requested.
The word "Mr. Yun" scared her out of her wits and she tarried at once. At the same time, thoughts were rushing out her head. With her manager's respect towards the man, it's possible that he's one of the heirs of the Yun Empire.
The woman returned with an expensive-looking velvet case. In her last life, there's no jewelry that she hadn't try so she eyed the box with disinterest. When it was opened the shimmer and glitter of the jewelry blinded her that in her imagination, she placed an arm over her eyes.
"Take a pick." He had a ring in mind but he was giving her the freedom to choose.
Luo Jingyi scanned the contents but all gave her a bland feeling. There was no lure.
Normally, if one goes shopping and spots an item that the heart couldn't let go or put down meant buying it regardless of the price tag.
None of the five rings gave her this feeling. Not that they were gaudy or dull but rather, they were too eye-catching to the point of being dramatic. The monstrosity of the diamond resting on one's finger would draw too much attention.
"Do you have a simpler one?" She asked the store manager. If the man preferred a low-key car, she wanted the ring to be one as well. Plus, there was no need to splurge on something that she would unlikely wear all the time.
The other man was stunned. There were many female customers clamoring to view and buy from these series but only selected few were chosen. Moreover, women preferred these types. The bigger the diamond was, the better.
The manager quietly reverted his gaze to his boss and pitied him. 'He must be having a hard time now. Money can't even interest the woman who caught his finicky eyes.'
The chat group of all of Yun Jinghan's guards exploded when Amy told everyone that their boss was staying in the city for the meantime because of a woman without divulging any other information. It meant as a warning to everyone. Yet the guys were too curious and interrogated K5 who had been driving their boss around the city. Voilà, in seconds they knew of her name, job, and workplace.
'Don't worry boss. I'll help you.'
"Give me a minute." He politely excused himself out of the room.
The manager returned later with a small red velvety case. He carefully placed it on Yun Jinghan's palm. Without retracting his gaze on her, he lifted the ring box open.
A sleek band was revealed in front of everyone. Unlike the ones shown earlier with gigantic diamonds, this one has a small round cut set on its claw prongs. She instantly like the ring's simplicity.
"How about this Miss—ma'am?" He imagined he hit his head for making a slip. The r
"I like it." Luo Jingyi murmured.
