Ever since the real estate agency down the road had opened up two months ago this guy had always made it a part of his day to come by her cafe at lunch and buy a cappuccino. Abigael had noticed him on day one, he did stand out from her regular customers with his sharp suit and well articulated accent, she wondered if he was from overseas. That being said, it wasn't like she had a crush on him or anything, she didn't even know his name. She just... appreciated fine looking things.
'One regular cappuccino. Would you like anything else?'
'No thank you. That's a nice watch you've got there, is it new?' He asked as he paid for the coffee.
'Ah?' Abigael was shocked, she had been wearing the watch all day and he was the first to comment on it. 'Oh, yes actually. I won it in a raffle yesterday. But it isn't very good, I think it might be broken.' She said quickly, still blushing from earlier and wishing this guy would just hurry up and leave, quickly leave!
'Well that's a shame.' He said thoughtfully, 'See you.'
Abigael was a bit confused, she had never had such a long conversation with the hot real estate agent before. Considering he took the initiative to start the conversation she thought that he must really like watches or something. Before she could ask he was already walking out the door.
'Bye.' She said, watching as a crowd of ten office workers from the firm across the road entered the healthy lunch shop next door. The poor individual whose turn it was to pay for coffee today would be coming any minute now and when he did the lunch rush would begin.
She quickly gulped the rest of her cold flat white and stuffed the rest of her honey sandwich in her mouth, chewing frantically as the bell on the door dinged.
//
The roller door squealed like usual as she pulled it down, key in hand this time, she'd learnt her lesson and wouldn't be loosing her tip money again. She bent down and double checked the secured lock before heading to the bus stop and catching the bus.
It was finally the end of the week, she smiled to herself as she watched the city fly by outside the bus window. Friday evening. She was going to catch up with friends and go out and have fun. Maybe have a couple drinks...
Beep!
Abigael frowned. It was that stupid watch again. What did it want now? She was just trying to get some quality quiet time without having to deal with life and it just had to interrupt her. She was not happy as she tapped the screen, wondering if a hammer would be enough to stop it annoying her. A new notification was flashing.
{Daily updated}
Wait, Daily, wasn't that the app for sale in the app store? How could it update if she hadn't installed it? Abigael quickly checked the app store and sure enough the app had a big green tick next to it and the status {downloaded}.
[What the f*ck?] She definitely did not purchase this app, she had only looked at he description and then... [It must have been when that real estate guy startled me.] She realised suddenly [I put my hand over the watch on reflex, I didn't know I had accidentally touched the display! I must have tapped the purchase button.]
Shocked, she looked closer at the watch, checking for any other accidental purchases. But just like before all the other apps were still greyed out, she couldn't even tell what they were, let alone purchase them.
She tapped on the notification to stop the watch flashing and beeping and it took her to {Daily}.
Five options appeared on the screen.
{New Goal}
{Current Goals}
{History}
{Progression Good Credits}
{Progression Bad Credits}
She tapped on New Goals, as it was the only option not currently greyed out.
{Goal: GC/BC (Good Credits/Bad Credits)} *tap
{GC: open the door}
{OR}
{BC: kick it}
She tried tapping the Good credit option but nothing happened.
This really had to be the most ridiculous watch ever. She thought the Daily app was something like a fitness trainer but it turned out to be a hoax. Who would kick a door? And what was with those Good and Bad credits? Did it have anything to do with the currency in the app store?
[Forget it] She told herself, sighing and closing her eyes she leaned back in the bus seat and tried to block out the world for a moment. Ever since she had got this watch it had been one frustration after another, it really was more trouble than it was worth. Even if it was free!
Beep!
Her eyes opened to narrow slits showing traces of a fire deep within, a red spark igniting somewhere in the pitch black of her pupils. She made a fist with her right hand and smashed down violently onto the watch, hitting it again and again with no regard to her personal safety. A few of the other people riding the bus looked over at her worriedly and one little boy even started to point at her before his mother quickly took him and got off the bus.
Abigael didn't care, she vowed that first thing tomorrow morning she would go to a hardware and appliance store and get someone to help take this watch off her. Then she would smash it to bits and throw it where the sun doesn't shine!
As her bus stop approached and she got off the bus she was breathing heavily and her hair had come undone, giving her a bit of a crazy lady vibe. Passers-by avoided her as she made her way up the elevator and to her apartment. Mimsy was up to no good again and had managed to get outside her next door neighbour's apartment. It was waiting patiently in the hallway by Mrs C's front door and it hissed at her as she stalked past, so she kicked at it for good measure.
Beep!
Eye twitching, she entered her apartment, threw her bag, shoes, skirt and bra on the floor then curled up in bed and cried.
