Chapter 5 - 5

Farmlands, buildings, markets, small creeks. These were what I could see from the window of the room. The room seemed to be on the third floor. The air was so fresh unlike the one in my world. There was no smell of sooth and Ash. It seems this world has not seen the industrial revolution yet as there was no industry in sight. I hope it remains that way. My friends from the orphanage and other poor people, in hopes of earning daily wage often used to work in industries. Overwork eventually led to their death.

No, I should not think about my world. This new world is now my world.

I should probably look around a little, and with this thought in mind, I headed towards the door. It directly connected to the main room with an open kitchen. Everything made out of wood. There was only dining table in the middle of the room and a big cupboard at one corner. Aside from this, nothing if we don't count the kitchen utensils. Kai, Ryan and Levi were seated while Wil and Zen were doing the cooking.

Everyone turned when I entered.

"Up already?" asked Kai.

"Yea, I couldn't sleep. Thought it'll be better to take a look around"

"You came at the perfect timing! Lunch is ready. Get seated" Wil said enthusiastically.

And with this, I too was seated on the dining table, with Ryan engaging me in a small talk, which mostly consisted of explaining me more about how things work.

The food that Wil and Zen brought wasn't much different from what I had eaten in the past, but a lot more fancy and tasty, like the ones we occasionally got when some noblemen decided to make a donation to the orphanage.

"After lunch, if you are up to it, let's go for a walk. We can show you the surroundings" Levi suggested.

"Sure I'd love to." I'll be better for me to be familiarized with the place I'll be calling home.

"Before that, we have some matters to settle" Kai said between bites.

"Uh yes, it'll be best to take care of the money problem as soon as possible" Ryan added.

Everyone nodded.

Money problem? Seeing the question on my face, Ryan continued, " You see, though you are female, you still were orphan, so after you came of age, the most the orphanage could do was give you hundred silver coins, seeing it didn't have much funding. And out of these hundred, fifty were used to buy the house."

"So only fifty coins are remaining. How long can we last with these?"

"Only a year at maximum" Zen said with a blank face.

And if we don't do anything, we'll have to live a life like I did in my previous one, begging, at the mercy of others.....
