Chapter 19 - Chapter 18: The 48 Laws

Later that night, Elizabeth entered her room and began looking through the items. "So much... What am I supposed to do with most of this?" She asked herself quietly as she looked at her surroundings.

All sorts of items are all piled together, both chaotically and neatly. She began looking through some books which are piled slightly away from the rest. On top is a well-known children's book of German origin. Elizabeth skimmed it, but didn't find much interest in it and set it aside, looking at the next book in the pile.

There laid 5 emboldened words. The 48 Laws of Power. Elizabeth picked up the book and looked at the back to see if it would be worth reading. The back read, 'A custom ordered book cover. To order more go to-' Elizabeth immediately stopped reading as she had already seen that all of the text on the back is just an advertisement.

'Guess I'll have to judge by reading it...' She thought to herself as she opened the book. Immediately she was greeted by the word, Preface. She read further. 'The feeling of having no power over people and events is generally unbearable.' It read.

'This is probably worth it...' Elizabeth thought to herself before continuing.

(2 minutes later)

"But why would I make enemies? That seems relatively counter-productive... Unless..." Elizabeth mumbles a question to herself as she went into thought.

(18 minutes later)

'It does make sense to always attempt to win through actions rather than an argument...' Elizabeth thought to herself. Elizabeth continued reading and rereading the book until she suddenly heard the door to her room open. Elizabeth looked up at the door from her position which is to the left of the door against the wall.

The light is off and she was using a book light which was in one of the bags to read. "Elizabeth?" A feminine voice whispered.

"Aunt Kaitlyn?" Elizabeth asked.

"Yep." Kaitlyn responded. "Want to talk?" She asked.

"Sure, let me just..." Elizabeth said as she stood up and reached for the light. "Turn on the light." She said as she flipped the switch and the light turned on. She squinted her eyes for a moment and let her eyes adjust back to the normal lighting of the room, then looked towards Kaitlyn.

Kaitlyn walked over to Elizabeth as she went back to her original sitting position and sat next to her. "If I told you I remember my past life, would you believe me?" Kaitlyn asked.

"Let's assume I do." Elizabeth said.

"Alright. Well, what if I said because of that past life, I know how to look at other people's past lives?" She asked.

"Would you be willing to try that on me?" Elizabeth asked immediately and without hesitation.

"You seem rather interested, though I was hoping for that response." Kaitlyn said.

"Yes or no?" Elizabeth asked impatiently.

"You are my brother's daughter, that's for sure. Anywho, of course, I would. Though you will have to tell me why you became so interested after I said those words in particular." Kaitlyn says. Elizabeth froze for a moment.

"If you prove it to me, then I'll tell you." Elizabeth said.

"Fine, but I'll only tell you a little bit before you say anything." Kaitlyn said as she positioned herself to face Elizabeth. Elizabeth nodded as she positioned herself parallel to Kaitlyn.

"Deal." Elizabeth said. Kaitlyn placed her hands' palms up in front of herself and Elizabeth.

"Place yours on top." Kaitlyn said. Elizabeth did as she said. Kaitlyn closed her eyes and Elizabeth felt a sort of warm energy in her hands and wrists. Soon enough, Kaitlyn spoke. "In your past life you were male, brown hair, relatively thin build and green eyes... And your name... It was... Hmm... This is unusually difficult... It began with an m... t... w... Matthew?" Kaitlyn ended with what sounded like a question. "That's all until you-" Kaitlyn started as she opened her eyes, but stopped as soon as she saw Elizabeth's expression of utter shock.

Elizabeth quickly composed herself and got ready to speak. "I suppose it is my turn to speak." She said then cleared her throat. "Recently I have been having weird dreams. They come randomly but are always vivid and in detail, the biggest thing is I remember everything from them, and most of all, I feel pain in these dreams. They're almost like memories." Elizabeth said.

"I see... Then you've likely started remembering it already." Kaitlyn said. "Want to continue?" She asked. Elizabeth nodded. Kaitlyn closed her eyes and Elizabeth immediately felt the warm energy again. "This is... Strange... It's different now." Kaitlyn said.

"What do you mean?" Elizabeth queried.

"It's like I'm viewing a different lifetime. Another male, purple hair, and animal ears and tail. I can't seem to find their name... It's blurry and I can't make out any features... It seems like it's sealed or something. Like someone or something doesn't want anyone to know." Kaitlyn said.

"Try looking for something else." Elizabeth said. 'What she said doesn't really seem believable, but then again, I'm remembering a life from a time that doesn't exist yet...' Elizabeth thought to herself.

"Alright..." Kaitlyn said as she seemed to attempt to shift gears. "A female. Hair that's nearly white, but seems to have some amount of blonde in it... Short, standing around five feet tall. An e name. This one's also fuzzy..." Kaitlyn said. "I think that's enough for tonight, we should try again later to see if it works better." Kaitlyn said as she lowered her hands.

Elizabeth nodded. "Talk to you later then, I should probably go to bed, I got distracted, but am now happily in reality again." Elizabeth said as she stood up and stretched.

"Alright. Good night." Kaitlyn said as she stood up and pat Elizabeth's head, slightly disrupting Elizabeth's stretch.

"Night." Elizabeth said as she finished stretching and began walking to her bed. "And will you turn off the light?" She asked. Kaitlyn nodded as she flipped the switch.
