Chereads / Hunting Darwin I: Blood Winter / Chapter 3 - CHAPTER 3: LUNA MOONFANG

Chapter 3 - CHAPTER 3: LUNA MOONFANG

The moonlight showered upon the land, illuminating the world that was once as quiet as a child's dream. The leaves dancing through the soft caress of the air, falling like rain to the grounds as the trees bend with the touch of the wind.

A silent before a storm.

"We lure him out, using a dummy human bait then we attack him all at once", one of the lightkeepers demonstrated the plan to the others.

Stephen stood at the back observing their actions. He just nod and agreed to what they say but had really no idea what exactly is going on.

The plan was to lure Darwin out. Using a dummy human bait injected with a serum that enhances the smell of a human blood, making it more appealing to vampires. The subject shall roam around the city under 360 surveilance, and under protection of random attacks from any creatures other than the subjects from different land points in the area. Once the main target is confirmed, a raid shall be initiated to slaughter the suspect.

"But how do we kill him? It's not something that we can easily plant bullets on", Stephen tried to rebut the plan. But one of the mission in-charge turned to him.

"We do not kill him, we capture him", Randall Spear, on of the in-charge and a lightkeeper answered his queries.

Stephen just rolled his eyes and turned his back on them. He slowly took pace to the window of and took a glance on the moon. He closed his eyes to the calming sense of the night. But was snapped out of his thoughts about the worst case scenerio that is coming to them.

Fifteen minutes passed the hour of 11 and they executed the initial part of the plan. The human dummy dressed like a stripper walks across the city with its own, acting like a normal human and talking like a real person. The safekeepers made sure that children and pregnant women are in their respective houses, as they needed to be safe as the night gets deeper.

The city was surrounded by the 4 divisions of 22 lightkeepers during the mission. Division A, lightkeepers assigned points A1 to A5 in the South .Division B, points B1 to B5 in the East. Division C, points C1 to C5 in the North and Division D, points D1 to D5 in the West. Mission-in-charge, Randall Spear positioned 55 meters from the East to the center of the city while Black Pentagram Special Force, Stephen Stern sits 55 meters from the south to the outkirts.

30 minutes passed and still no Darwin showed up, some of the lightkeepers in the land points were yawning out of signals and information coming from the other side. The bait, still walking like a crazy slut on the streets with her face tainted with lipstick and powder smudges of too much making out while on the mission line. Everything seems to be just in a normal state, no signs of violence and crime from the different points of the cities. Not even a single random supernatural creature showed up to the scene to take advantage of the food walking around in liberty across the streets of GlideHaste.

"Check signs on point B3", Randall voiced out to the radio.

Stephen checked his monitor but there's nothing to be found. He sat silently on a rusty chair in the rooftop of an abandoned building. Just a few kilometers away from Randall who sits on a tree branch across the area.

The hours passed by and there's still no signs of violence or an attack. The bait sits on a bench with her legs crossed taking a sip of beer, with her face almost melting out of tiredness. Just as if she is an actual human though.

"Check signs on point 5A", Randalls voice broke off the radio. But the signal was interrupted, "Repeat. Check signs on point 5A, respond", he wore his best boss tone.

"Check signs on point 5A", I repeat Randall's request but only static returned. Suddenly his heart went beating so fast.

The wind suddenly went cold and time seemed to halt. There was a tingling sensation on Stephen's spines as he looked up to the sky.

"On your stead, if you are listening to this", Randall's shaky voice whispered on the radio.

There was an overwhelming fear that suddenly get into him. He can't explain why he fells so dreaded and scared at the moment that he can't pull his thoughts together as he shakily picked up the radio.

"I don't know if it's me or did the wind just went cold and I feel so much scared right now...like I don't understand", Stephen's shaky voice reached Randall on the other side.

Then all of a sudden, a high pitched tone tore up their ears that it shed blood. A screeching sound on the radio followed. Stephen, knocked down on his knees struggled to reach the radio while covering his ears. His screams filled the open air. But suddenly, the noise stopped and he slowly grabbed the radio.

"Spec...officer Stern...there is...there is something wrong...", Randall's voice filled with dread broke off from the other side.

"Hey hey, hold it, what's wrong? What happened?", Stephen replied with his voice shaking.

An interruption took over between the two. A panting voice from the other line.

"Officer Stern...help...", One of the lightkeepers cried on the other side of the line. Judging upon his tone, Stephen then realized that he's running from something, "There is a sha...shadow...shadow creature...it killed them all in less than a minute...we can't fight back because we feel so scared", his voice cracked because of crying.

"Assemble all the divisions in my command...", a chilling scream cut him down from the other side that he put his radio down and closed his eyes in disappointment.

"It's not suppose to end this way...", he anxiously whispered, fighting the scary sensation that he feels at the moment.

Since all communications were lost, he packed all of his stuff and drove fast to the central area where the raid should have been done. He took a glance on the surveilance of the bait and was shocked upon realizing that it was smiling like odd in front of the camera, the kind of smile that reached both ears and her tongue out and eyes bulging. And some of her body parts are decapitated. Just the sight of her made Stephen feel a lot creeped out than ever before.

He reached the central road towards the heart of the city but was was stopped from his tracks on what seemed to be the most horrifying and dreadful scene that he had ever witnessed.

A mountain of cadavers piled up in the middle of the road with a towering tube that pierced through the head of Randall Spear, his eyes were nowhere to be found and his mouth stretched like gum.

Stephen covered his face in pain, watching the people of his own piled up like sacks of meat brutally butchered by a creature unknown to human being.

His tears run across his palm to his neck, sobbing to the disappointment that he is to them.

He bravely took a glance on the mountain of dead bodied once again. He took his lightning whip and adamantine dagger and pulled his way out of the car. Taking small paces towards the bodies of his mates.

"In the name of the light, I vowed to avenge you from whoever did this", he kneeled down with his hands on the ground. Tears falling down from his eyes, "Who the hell did this?", his voice cracked in sorrow and anger.

"I did", a chilling and intimidating voice filled the air. The scary sensation tingled Stephen's spine once again. His eyes went big in full shock. He just felt like and imminent death is coming to him.

He pulled himself up and looked up to the sky then back to the mountain of dead bodies. He closed his eyes one more time before turning around pointing a gun to the person talking at his back.

His gun, pointed just half an inch away from a hooded face that only shows the bloody red lips and the nose. The face curved into a smirk before biting the lips showing one of his sharp fangs.

Stephen didn't think twice before pulling the trigger. The person stumbled back bursting in blood as the bullet went straight directly to the head.

"Not a good move. Look, you killed your own men?", The guy who was now sitting on top of the bodies like it is a throne flicked his hand to draw Stephen's attention to him. His smile, curving perfectly in the dim of the moonlight touching half of his face.

Stephen turned around to see that he shot one of the lightkeepers. He dropped his gun and curled on his knees. His looks marked a big disappointment.

"Why are you doing this? What do you want?", He tried gathering his composure. He turned around to face the person on top of the dead bodies.

"Has it never really occured to you?", the guy leaped and landed in front of Stephen with half of his face still hidden in the hood showing only his nose and lips.

Stephen stepped back a little paces. Holding the grip of his whip from his back. Preparing for an attack.

"Seems like the dog is threatened a little bit", He let out a small breathy laugh biting the tip of his fingers as a sign of intimidation.

"Darwin Frost, right? If there's one thing that really occured to me, that is your imminent death tonight", He pulled out the whip from his back and strike a harsh hit on the guy's face.

"Ohhh", the hood blown up revealing his face as he moaned at the taste of his own blood dripping from the side of his face on his head looking up to the sky, "Seems like I don't need an introduction", Darwin looked back at him with a deadly expression, eyes burning like crimson flames in a furious face marked by a playful smile.

"Who cares about your introduction!", Stephen whipped another strike but Darwin caught it with his right arm. His flesh burning from the heat of the lighting whip.

He pulled Stephen close to him and took a grip of his neck and crashed him back to the ground. But Stephen kicked him back sending him backwards.

"How dare you...", Darwin whispered on his breathe as he wiped a drip of blood from his mouth. He then took off his outer cloak revealing his lean and mascular body inside a black suit adorned with gold and scarlet details. His wounds healing faster on his ever gorgeous face.

"Let me show you the power of Black Pentagram", Stephen then took off his coat revealing his buff and mascular body in a tight leather suit with a small pin of the Lightkeepers logo on his left chest, "How I want to put a scratch on that face!", he dashed like a bullet towards Darwin but he stopped with a single hand.

"Let's see if you can touch a bit of my skin", Darwin gave him a kick that almost torn his insides. Sending him backward crumpled like a paper.

Stephen spit blood from the impact of Darwin's kick. Yet he stood up and wiped the blood on his mouth and gave him a taunting smile.

"Looks like the tiger didn't see the rat coming...kaboom", he flipped back as he gave Darwin a middle finger.

Darwin crashed to the walls road as the explosive took him from his chest. He let out a small groan not because of pain, but because of frustration. He pulled himself together, dusted a little bit of his suit and walked slowly towards Stephen.

"Wait, how does this thing work?", He playfully pulled a plasma gun from one of the lightkeepers and pulled the trigger to his mouth. Stephen stepped back in shock, "Hmmmm not bad? It doesn't hurt that much", he shrugged his shoulders as he looked at Stephen.

"Does it?", Darwin suddenly whispered on Stephen's left ear as he appeared in flash. He pulled the plasma gun to Stephen's arm just enough to damage the part where he grips the whip.

Stephen hissed at the pain but he managed to hit back Darwin with a might. Though it didn't really affected him.

"Killing you might spoil the fun. Maybe torturing you first will suffice me", Darwin lanced him with a strong knee on the gut. Pulled his hair and gave him an uppercut. Blood sprayed like a spout in the air.

Stephen, can barely even stand managed to deal with the damage. A Black Pentagram like him wouldn't be killed by just physical attacks alone. He looked at his left arm and sighed. He slowly grabbed the silver dagger and throw it straight forward at Darwin's heart.

The dagger pierced through him and he went on his knees. Stephen then ran towards him and pulled his hair to face him.

"What a beautiful face, too bad I'll scar it a little", he pulled the silver dagger from Darwin's heart and sliced through his face.

Darwin hissed at the touch of the knife on his skin. Stephen crashed his face to the ground before jumping back.

"What now? Blood Winter? Where is the legend that is Darwin Frost", He gave a few kicks on the unconscious Darwin in front of him.

He turned his back on him to go back to his car but then he was stopped in his tracks. His knees shaking and his hands cannot even hold a grip well. The same fearful sensation has come again.

Then he heard Darwin cried like normal guy, pulling his body to his knees then to his feet covering his face. His cry eventually became deep and deep and lot creepier then he let out a small chuckle.

"You don't really understand", the last thing that Stephen heard before the time seemed to halt at the smile of Darwin across him. In a heartbeat, time slowed down and everything around them moves in a slow motion. He just felt a strong painful feeling piercing right through his heart as Darwin pushed his claws on his chest.

Stephen screamed at the pain and everything went black for a moment as time moved normally again.

There was strong vibe that tore them apart, a light explosion.

He opened his eyes to see Darwin slowly stepping backwards looking shocked at his face. He felt a strong gush of energy and power in his veins. His eyes gleaming blue at the small drips of moonlight. Rings of light started circling around his eyes like a snake biting its own tail.

"Fuck!", Darwin picked himself up in all shock and disbelief. Moving slowly backwards as Stephen moves every single muscle. A very rare sensation lingered in his nerves all throughout his body.

"What have you done?", Stephen pulled his body to stand again. He never felt any strains or pain as he braced himself once more. His eyes still gleaming in the moonlight.

Darwin immediately leaped to escape the scene but Stephen pulled him by his neck with his lightning whip. He grabbed Darwin's now scorching neck and crashed him to the grounds in a very strong force. Darwin screamed at the pain of the impact.

Yet he managed to kick him flying. Darwin hissed at the pain and blood in his back and gut.

"Luna Moonfang...", he hissed at him before pulling his wings on to escape. But Stephen wouldn't let him get off that easy.

"You're not going anywhere!", He pulled his whip and gripped Darwin by his neck. He pulled him towards him and stabbed a silver dagger through his heart. Darwin screamed at the pain, but he gave a strong headbutt on Stephen.

"Hah! Too bad. Silver? It doesn't work like 1963!", He delivered a snap blow at Stephen's neck but he evaded his attacks.

"What about adamantine?", He pushed the adamantine dagger straight into Darwin's heart ans pushed him.

Darwin went on his back, crawling backwards and keeping an eye on Stephen. He hissed at the pain of a real adamantine on his chest.

"Shit! How blasphemous!", He cursed at Stephen. He pulled himself to his knees only to be butchered by whip strikes from Darwin's lighting whip. He screamed in agony, unable to fight back.

Stephen walked close to him and grabbed his hair. He pulled the dagger and pushed it many time until Darwin lost consciousness.

He dragged Darwin's body to the backseat of the car and drove back to the institute with the adamantine dagger still on his chest. His eyes now on normal shade after dealing with the apex of all predators. He felt so exhausted, as if his energy has been sucked up by the land. His eyes slowly drowning to the back of his head. He had lost consciousness and the car crashed on the roadside barricade.
