"Easy as a pea. All you have to do is to dig into the medical records and tell me everything about Susu's history at the hospital. It shouldn't be hard for you to find her since our surnames are quite difficult to find in this city. Even if some patients have the same surname, they won't have the same first name and cancer as her."
Karen sipped her Coca Cola and tapped on her black phone screen, "Remember of what I have in my hands. Do you want this information to leak? I can send an anonymous email to the principal from our university and have him decide what to do with such despicable actions."
"Okay! Okay... alright. I'll do it. But only if you promise to delete that video!" Kitty took a few deep breaths and chugged down her orange juice.
Karen waved her phone in the air, "Of course I will. Why would I keep such disgusting stuff on my phone? I just happen to hate cleaning up and somehow remember having this on my files."
"Fine. Bye."
"Wait." Karen stopped her from leaving the table.
"What else do you want from me?" Kitty asked with an impatient tone.
"First, pay for the meal for both of us. Second, give me your cellphone number so I can speak to you without having to meet up." Karen snatched Kitty's phone from her pocket and inserted her own number into the contacts list. After that, she called herself using Kitty's phone to make sure that the number is correct.
"Done." Kitty slammed a few big bills on the table and took her phone from Karen. She left immediately afterwards because she had to rush back to her shift and take over for the other staff. She couldn't believe that an unplanned lunch walk became such a ridiculous issue for her.
Kitty clocked back into the system right on time for her shift and showed a pretentious smile to her coworkers. She heard familiar footsteps approaching from down the hallway and quickly adjusted her hair and reapplied her lipstick.
"Good afternoon, Doctor Lin Que!" She greeted him with a bright smile as usual and he said the same old line back to her. Even though he never looked more than a few seconds at her, she felt that it was more than enough because seconds will eventually become minutes, hours, days, and then a lifetime.
Kitty worked at the hospital for almost a year, but her lack of experience and effort held her back in terms of skills. She used to be the one who ran simple errands for everyone else at the hospital because she was clueless of everything around this hospital. Her parents used a lot of money to bribe their distant relative's daughter who worked as the head nurse to give her an opportunity at this location.
After successfully getting into this hospital with the distant relative's daughter's help, they changed some records on Kitty's file so that nobody would be able to find out that she got the job without getting interviewed.
Later, the relative's daughter regretted her decision because Kitty was more brainless than an ant. At least ants could work together and pick up large objects. Kitty wasn't used to working independently and as a team.
After a while of working and making countless mistakes, she was arrogant enough to show superiority in front of new potential interns. Even entering basic data entry records for patients was difficult for her to complete. Since the hospital had many visitors and patients entering and exiting daily, she would use other nurse's initials to avoid trouble if she was unsure of whether she did something correctly.
She was caught by an intern, but she brushed it off saying that she was too tired after working double shifts. Later, she accidentally swapped the medical reports for two patients, and the wrong prescriptions were given to the patients. Lin Que had to personally apologize to the patients and provide free hospital visits to settle the patient's fury.
Since that same intern who caught her faults was on shift with her during that time, she managed to push the blame onto the newbie. Lin Que let the head nurse handle the situation since he was in a rush that day to attend an overseas conference meeting.
Ever since that time, Kitty had fallen for Lin Que's gentlemen manners and have tried countless ways to gain his attention. Not sure if it is her luck or misfortune, but her shifts never collided with the times when Lily visited Lin Que. Even when Lily visited the hospital, she always used the private elevator that few people knew about to access Lin Que's office. Therefore, she never knew about Lily's existence.
The other staffs don't like associating themselves with Kitty because of her princess syndrome. They also figured out her schemes against other people when things didn't add up, so they limited their time with her.
One of the nurses recalled a situation where three patients were requested to pay for their hospital bills, but they claimed that they've paid the full fee already. Records revealed that two of them paid, but not the full amount. Meanwhile, one patient paid but the hospital owed him money instead.
After a deep investigation by the head nurse, she found out that Kitty was the one who was responsible for this mess. Since the patient's names had literally one letter difference from each other, she found a way to get away from the circumstances.
She even dared to argue that patients are stupid for not having savings to pay up their debt. Her exact words were, "those who doesn't have savings accounts are extremely dumb. How could they not prepare themselves for emergencies? Sheesh, so stupid."
Nurses started to isolate themselves from her idiotic pea sized brain because all of them understood that they needed to be a professional. Kitty only knew how to gossip and talk about nonsense. She also loves to act two faced to lower people's guard and back stab them using the information she gets from the other.
At the same time, Kitty also wished to obtain a full-time position at the hospital because she's been working as a part timer. With her lacking capabilities and over confidence, the relative's daughter refused to promote her. It is difficult to get rid of Kitty from the system since she was already hired through connections, but easy to prevent her from getting a promotion.
"You were late by two minutes." The head nurse sounded annoyed with charts in her hands.
"I apologize for my tardiness, but I went to lunch ten minutes later than my original time. Therefore, I'm not considered late. I'm actually right on time." Kitty showed her clocking out time and the head nurse rolled her eyes at her excuses.
After that, Kitty resumed her receptionist job. Nobody dared to give her any tasks since she always made mistakes and faked innocence. She sat on the chair and waited for everyone to leave their spot.
When one of the senior nurses got up to check on her patients, she had to leave her account logged in on the system in case visitors and new patients arrive. Once she was gone, Kitty used the senior's account to search for Susu's medical records. There were monthly visit records, diagnoses and prescriptions that were uploaded onto the system.
After retrieving the information, she snapped pictures of the records and sent it to Karen through text message. Once the messages were received on Karen's end, she deleted the conversation so that nobody would be able to find out about it.
Karen texted, "What about her upcoming appointments? She's been visiting the hospital for the past months."
Kitty sighed and looked around before checking for upcoming appointments. When she found Susu's name, she texted the information to Karen and once again cleared her messages before anyone found out. By the time the senior came back to her seat, Kitty had already retrieved everything she needed to do.
Her phone vibrated once again, "Such time effective actions. I'm impressed. Your coworkers must love you so much to allow you to take pictures."
"Of course, everybody at my job loves me and are in good terms with me. I could have access to anything as long as I ask. Now that we are done with this, I better see that file removed from your phone in person. No, I need to delete it myself." Kitty formed goosebumps at the thought of the video and pictures getting leaked.
"Sure. I'll meet you after your work." Karen easily agreed, but Kitty felt that something was off. 'Would she really let me off just like that?'
