Chapter 21 - A Room Older than the House

"How could she have stayed here for ten years when this house was built just five years ago after the original one was burned down to ashes?" His eyes never left Maia's face.

Mrs. Marie was silent. She had a frown on her forehead and she pursed her lips. Her eyes darted fast to one of the pictures on the wall. Daemon caught that soight motion and quickly went to the picture.

It was the old house, the old villa that was burnt down. He laughed spitefully as his eyes saw a minute detail at the lower part of the villa. The metal door was still polished unlike today. And it was in plain sight. He could not mistake the odd doorknob that he just saw Mrs. Marie turned earlier. "How many?," he pulled his hand down to his face and waited for the maid's answer.

"Master-"

"How many girls were brought here by father?"

"We lost count."

"Ha!" His shoulders suddenly slacked. His face dimmed as his brow twitched in irritation. His hands balled into fists. "Leave," his tone was low and menacing as he commanded the two. In just a few seconds, he was alone with the sleeping woman in the center of the room.

The quietness was nerve wracking as he watched her chest heave up and down. "What was he thinking building this?" he adjusted the sleeves of his shirt and removed his shoes. Fearing the woman will wake up suddenly, he slowly sat down on the edge of the bed and closed his eyes.

"Wake up," she nudged his shoulders softly. He groaned but he opened his eyes quickly after realizing who was nudging him.

"Sleep more."

"No, we have to wake up."

"I called in sick. Can't we be normal for a day?" he pulled her into an embrace and she couldn't lift his arm off of her.

"Daemon!"

"Maia!"

She sighed as she pulled the blanket closer to her. "Daemon, I have to get dressed." She whispered in an almost hushed voice. That was when he loosened his grip and turned to the other side.

Maia saw a pair of clothes on the bedside table and quickly changed into them. She was sitting on the bed when he felt him turn to her again and hastily pulled her back down. "Sleep."

Maia stared at the ceiling. "Aren't you going to ask me anything?"
