Chereads / Hiding the CEOs - Mr. and Mrs. Stone / Chapter 10 - The Secretarial Party

Chapter 10 - The Secretarial Party

Soft music was being played from the large bar. The whole room was decorated in a classy and refined style. Champagne glasses, women in simple cute gowns and men in suits, you wouldn't notice that this is a bar.

"This year's secretarial party is oddly quiet." commented a petite girl in a green tube gown with brown locks and blue eyes. She is a secretary of Dream Co., one of the rival companies of Stone Inc.

"Yes, it is more subtler than last year's. But I am looking forward to this one because of Mr. Stone's secretary. They say he has a good face." another girl in a yellow strapless gown said. Some nearby eavesdroppers glanced at the girls who were gossipping. They seemed interested now at the new secretary. The wine coming in and out of the bar seems endless as soft laughter and light music mix into the air.

The arrival of this new secretary is the hot topic for that night. Being a secretary for CEOs takes years of training and the job will take a toll on your life if you are not careful enough. It was a dangerous job requiring all secretaries to know self defense and more. So this party is also being held annually to honor them and let them relax even just for a day yearly.

In the farthest corner of the room, she sat on a lonely chair brushing up her black-rimmed glasses every now and then. She was holding a champagne glass as she observes the whole bar. Her slender figure was hidden from the crowd with a shawl she covers on her sleek nude-colored gown. Every now and then men look at her direction but none could see the hidden beauty in those thick glasses. They smile politely at her trying to maintain formality and respect knowing who she is.

"Why are you in a corner?" the deep voice came from behind her. She didn't notice how he got behind her. She didn't turn around but she noticed how the other women inside the room look at her with jealousy.

"Well, you have a good habit of sneaking up on me." He walked in front of her and sat at the opposite chair. He was playing with the wine glass in his hand. The way he lazily looks at the wine then at her screams nobility and class. He looked refined and regale like a King out of his throne. "How do you stand parties like this?" He scanned the room without much interest then he looked back at her.

"Getting used to it is not the same as having to stomach it. Eventually, you will learn." No other words were spoken between them for minutes. They felt relaxed in their own little world.

Maia looked at her watch and saw it was just a few minutes that have passed. She sighed. Her eyes were getting on her nerves. There was a slow stinging pain starting behind her eyeballs. She removed her glasses and pinched her closed eyes.

Daemon studied her movements. "You look tired. Let me take you home." He stood up and took her elbow assisting her to stand when she heard someone whispering loud.

"Acting weak to get attention...nice move." She couldn't see clearly who it was without her glasses. But she felt the hand holding her elbow tense. She could feel the intense gaze of the other people on her. But her eyes were throbbing in pain already that she felt nauseous and unable to see straight. She took a step but the world twirled. "Daemon..." it was almost a whisper. Her lips trembled.

"Take my hand." He said softly by her ear. When she gripped on his hand, he placed both of her hands around his neck and carried her out of the bar. The next thing she knew was hearing him command people inside a car. "Take care of the gossiping women about my wife."
