Chapter 16 - Baby to rescue

Yanlong put down all her paraphernalia, including her bag in the deans room.

She took one storage bead with a foot of space in it, added a bottle of water, and first aid supplies and two biscuit packets to it .

Everything else stayed with her backpack, including all the power stones, lock picking tools and all such.

She retrieved her old jeans.

She cut it in half, then sewn the cloth into an onesie for herself.

Except for her eyes, everything else is covered in some form of fabric.

She took two feng shui beads with her. One is the one foot storage, with her basic supplies.

The other is the chaotic space bead.

A hunting knife is affixed to one leg at thigh level, and phone holder to the other thigh.

Yes, she is bringing her mobile phone to the battle ground, albeit in do not disturb mode.

It's a habit all veteran apocalypse hunters have. After all, you can miss any command, but not the 'retreat' command.

She manipulated what little metal ability she has to create a metal holder for the bead.

So, the bead can be held securely by blood string, touching it's mouth to any other beast.

A strong animal can definitely resist the force and run away from it, but a tied up and weak animal will fall prey to the energy, and die.

In her jeans overall, and the meticulously wrapped bead weapon, she went to hunt the man who gave her creeps.

One can never take a chance with olympians.

Some could be as docile as sea urchins.

Others could be as belligerent as minotaurs.

Their triggers are varied, their power, if at all used, is so strong there will be no coming alive.. So, the best way to take down an olympian is by a sneak one kill attack.

Yanlong carefully mapped her way through the ceiling.

The clothing pads she kept in her gloves and at her knees have become extremely useful.

As she took one step after another carefully into the cacti's domain, she extended the chaotic space bead to retrieve the spines shot by the cactus.

The spines went in without any effort whatsoever.

Once they entered the bead, Yanlong could barely feel them in all manners. There is no sound of clinking, no feeling of weight, nothing.

It's like they entered a completely different dimension.

Yanlong slowly creeped forward, never straying from the safe path, yet collecting all she could.

Once she crossed the cacti's field of activity, she rushed as if there were hellhounds behind her.

If the olympian is a passive type, and falls prey to another zombie, then she will have nowhere to cry.

Just as she ended her careful crawl, and poised to strike the olympian, her phone rang.

Damn it! Yanlong cursed, as she retrieved her phone.

Thankfully, this zombie is totally deaf and blind type.

Yanlong checked the message.

It's from Mingzhu.

They are involved in a struggle at the girls dorms.

In fact, the struggle was so strong, they are fighting with their lives on the lines.

Mingzhu ended the note with all of their passwords. Banks, phones and otherwise.

If nothing else, that truly convinced Yanlong they were fighting to death.

However, that's not the worst news.

The worst news is the zombie they mentioned.

This is a special zombie called 'Mutator'.

This is the only zombie that almost always evolves from the zombie / humans it eats.

Mutator is a collective conscience. While it is cowardly, it's survival instinct is strong and worse, they grow exponentially intelligent as the time passes.

She can miss on the olympian, but she needs to kill that mutator before it overcomes it's weakened state.

F***!!!

Yanlong swore internally, for the fear of alerting the olympian.

She crawled away fast, not paying attention to the sound.

The olympian but turned to her once, before turning to his lab, and balefully looking at the plants.

Yanlong crawled all the way across the long ceiling of the admin building, entered the vent connecting it to the girls dorms and sensed the floors.

Her area of sensing is a bit low, but a mutator will be like a beacon within her sensor range.

Only, there were two beacons.

She thought Huomei is the strongest person at their university, however, it seems there's another equally strong one.

Yanlong settled down and thought.

Regardless of the beacons's strength, they are much too near each other.

If one of them takes an initiative to kill the other, then their entire circle of survivors in the university can say bye bye to their lives.

However only one of them is incapacitate, and if she faces a mutator with current strength, she will most probably die.

Yanlong made a quick decision. She will go to the nearest one first.

First, she opened the phone, and set a timed message to Huomei, explaining the basics of the apocalypse to her, including the future.

If she lives, she will make another plan.

Yes, she is throwing her life away that recklessly.

After all, she has lived once, and in this body, accomplishing all her goals is a tall order.

If the best she can do is become a cannon fodder, then she will be a cannon fodder that fought till the last breath to survive.

She climbed up two stores in vents, and carefully crawled into the false ceiling of the room that housed the mutator.

She lifted one of the tiles carefully, peered down.

This mutator is extremely sensitive.

Yanlong's eyes met those of the mutator the moment she lifted the tile.

She could see it in a single glance. One side of its legs are completely cut off.

It will not have balance to move anywhere.

If not now, she will never get an opportunity to kill such a beast.

Even so Yanlong had underestimated the mutators ability & power a little.

The mutator gave a strong kick to the ceiling, by flipping it self up by the strength of its stomach like a snake.

Yanlong sensed the upper cut a wee moment before it came.

She directed the blood string to the nearest load bearing hook, but by the time the mutator already punched a hole through the ceiling.

It hung from the frame with one leg like a monkey, sent it's other legs like pistons through the ceiling tiles.

The tiles cracked one after another before Yanlong could so much as recover.

Yanlong scrambled back on her left side, in a straight line, guided the blood string to make a loop around the legs.

If not for her ten years of fighting experience, Yanlong would definitely have lost today's fight.

The mutator sent up a punch after another like a nail making machine.

It's impossible for Yanlong's naked eyes to track them.

Yanlong, as a habit, made the snare loop right after she put the blood string through the load bearing hook.

She herself will not have strength to directly attack enemies.

So, she always ties her string to the nearest load bearing pillar, tree, or some such, then attacks the enemy.

If she doesn't have time to even think about such things, as soon as she tied her string to the pillar, she makes an infinite number of snare loops, so at least one of them will get triggered and the enemy will get caught.

In that ridiculously short time, she has made ten, missed five, made a hit with three, and one is intact, the other is half made.

Jisuhu stopped making snare loops and directly sent out blood strings to get the other leg and tie it to the existing loops.

However, the mutator has a good danger sensing ability, worse yet, it's ability to make decisions is even better.

A tied up animal usually goes berserk.

However, the mutator did not do that.

It swung itself so fast, cut off blood strings by the strength of its weight.

Even yanlong did not expect it.

It sacrifices all three of its legs for a chance to escape.

The moment it fell to the floor, it started its jumping movement like a caterpillar, only, it's movements are incredibly energetic and fast.

Even if Yanlong rolled and started pursuing at the highest speed, crawling takes away from that.

Yanlong dare not land on the floor, for the mutator's muscle strength seems to be off the charts.

It almost punched holes through the ground just with it's jump.

It did not head towards the steps to higher dorm, but it jumped straight through the window.

Damn!

Yanlong thought as she increased her speed, sent a blood string through the nearest hook and then straight to the mutator without even looping it once.

As she expected, the full weight of the mutator pulled her through the ceiling tile and through the window.

Yanlong sent another bloodstring from a different hand to the nearest visible structure, an iron pipe jutting out on the side of the building.

If not for that, she could have been sent straight to the mutator that's swinging like a pendulum on the same level.

As soon as Yanlong felt the blood string wrap around the iron pipe, she attached the blood string holding the weight of the mutator to the string, and hung from a single hand, freeing her other hand.

Thus, the weight of the mutator is distributed on the hook and iron pipe before it's yanlong's turn.

The mutator sensed Yanlong's fear.

It swung itself using its muscle power, like a child kicks of a swing on the wall, and with the pendulum effect, it will fall right atop Yanlong squashing her to paste.

Yanlong sent out her otherfist, even as she closed her eyes in fear.

Only, she only felt a pull on bloodstring, but not an impact upon her.

She opened her eyes, she immediately let go of the blood string holding the mutator's side.

The mutator hit the chaotic space head on, and was absorbed straight into the chaotic space.

It got shredded into sludge inside the chaotic space, what with the sharp cactus thorn pellets.

Now, all she has to do is figure out how to get inside the building.
