Chapter 31 - We Date With The Purpose of Growing With That Person

As he's driving us back to campus I continue to go back and forth in my mind of whether I'm capable enough to handle his situation. I remember thinking that he's heaven sent but, I had no idea that he would be wrapped up in a nicely wrapped wealthy package. Rich people have issues much bigger than us regular people. What if he has a fiancée from birth type of arrangement that he has to commit to? I don't want to be left standing alone, I know relationships end so this may not be a forever thing but I don't want to be tossed aside either. There are just so many questions and the main one that keeps coming to mind is 'Why me?'

"What's on your mind baby," he asks squeezing my hand.

"A lot" I say not knowing where to start or if I should start.

"If you want to talk I'm all ears. If you have any questions or anything bothering you about what we discussed you can definitely ask me anything," he says reassuringly.

"Do you have any arranged engagements or anything like that, that I should know about? Like would you be forced to marry someone of the same caliber as you," I ask him biting my lip.

"We don't have arranged marriages, we do marry for gain whether it's financial, political, or whatever but, that's not what all the marriages in my family consist of. Some of us like to choose our own partners completely on our own and as long as you're a decent human being no one will be against it. With that being said marriages for gain or for familial ties will be inescapable but, I will protect you. I won't ever put you in a situation where you would have to witness or partake in any of that," he says with the most serious look I've ever seen him wear on his face.

"What if we break up," I ask him.

"You mean, what if you leave me," he asks raising an eyebrow.

"Whichever," I say to him shaking my head.

"In that case I would try to leave as amicably and peacefully as possible. I would hope that you can have a peaceful life if ever we break up and I would do what needs to be done to help you achieve that peace," he says thoughtfully.

"So…if I decided this was all too much for me," I ask honestly.

"Then I would really try my best to let you go, unfortunate for you though I would really try to change your mind while I have you here with me and if it's still the same when we reach our destination I would respect your wishes," he says truthfully or so I feel.

"Even though you've already announced us on social media," I say.

"Even then. Eventually everything will die down and I would deactivate my page again. All of your troubles were caused by me so it was only fair that I assisted you," he says logically.

"Okay," I say and continuing thinking about my decision.

"You don't have to think about these things alone baby. I know it's a huge decision but we're just talking about dating right now, if I were asking you to marry me then that would be a whole other discussion," he says stealing a glance at me as I act a though I didn't see it.

"Yeah, but we date with the purpose of growing with that person and possibly marriage. Did you reveal yourself to any of your ex-girlfriends," I ask.

"Not really, just one other," he says quietly.

"And what happened," I ask him intrigued.

"She was my first love, I thought she was the one. She was sweet and kind and everything I thought I could want in a woman. See we kind of grew up together so it kind of had this predestined, meant to be together forever type of vibe with us; I'm sure you could imagine. I thought I was going to marry that girl but, she had other plans and I wasn't part of them. It's not all on her though I could've treated her better and made more of an effort. It's a long story but, other than you she's the only one," he says with a bittersweet expression on his face.

"It's okay, you don't have to tell me anymore. I understand this is just as big for you as it is for me so I'll truly think about it," I say squeezing his hand reassuringly.

'How did it go from him trying to comfort me to me comforting him? Seeing him vulnerable hurts my heart just a little because I'm so used to seeing him composed cool and quite frankly sexy. I don't want to take too long making this decision even though I've long had my answer I don't want to feel as though I rushed it.' I think as we continue our drive to the campus.

"Are you sure you still want to meet the guys," he asks as we get closer.

"Absolutely, I want to meet your friends. You've already met mine, it's only fair," I say to him with a smile.

"Alright," he says and he drives toward the campus housing units.

"So you have a dorm here on campus as well," I ask him.

"Yeah, I still attend classes to keep up appearances, but I don't do any of the work. I have someone to do that for me as I'm actually studying at the school of my choice so I'm not doing twice the work load. The place I just took you to is for me when I don't feel like campus life or breaks or whatever. That's why I told you that you could use my dorm to sleep in if you wanted to take a nap. For security reasons I'm the only person in there," he says with a smirk backing into a parking space.

"Oh, the life of luxury…must be nice," I say sarcastically.

"You could taste it for yourself, all you have to do is say yes," he says turning off the car.

"Hmm, it's tempting but I'll have to think about it some more," I say with a sly smile and a wink.

"Alright, you win. Let's go," he says unclasping both of our seatbelts.

"Okay," I say as I watch him get out of the car and walk around to my side to help me out of the car.

'He's a gentleman through and through. It's no wonder he seems so mature it's because he is. He's tall, dark, handsome, intelligent and pursuing me I don't know why I'm acting like I haven't already practically agreed to his situation it's just a lot more than I initially thought. I'll let him sweat it out for a little bit before I tell him. I've already decided to be a better me so if he says I'm good enough then I'll wear it until I can't anymore. I will no longer doubt myself or my worthiness no matter who or what situation I'm facing.'

"Baby are you ready," he asks while opening my door and holding out his hand.

"Yes," I say with a wide smile placing my hand in his knowing that my mind is made up and my decision is concrete as he helps me out of the car.

"What were you thinking about just now that has you smiling like this," he asks locking his doors and leading me toward his building.

"Something happy," I say looking up at him.

"Mm, happy is good," he says as we continue to walk to his building.

When we get to his building he has to scan his id to get us into the building. Once inside he leads me towards the elevators which takes us to the third floor. Stepping off the elevator he pulls me along the corridor towards the end. We pass by other people who greet Mekhi with either a hand pound or head nod as he leads me to his place. We stop outside door 303 and he looks at me with a half-smile before using his key to unlock and open the door. As I step inside I am surprised to see a layout not too much different than that of an apartment. Mekhi turns on a light as he pulls me into his place. The decoration here is very simple and the furniture is modest as well. He brings me to a door and pauses again.

"You want to see my room," he asks with a sly smile.

"We're already here so it's fine," I say but on the inside my heart is pounding and my libido is waking up and stretching.

"Are you sure? We can go back to the living room," he says with a mocking voice.

"I'm positive, just open the door already," I say masking my nervousness.

"Alright," he says and finally opens the door and flips on a switch to light the room.
