Chapter 10 - The First Day Blues

Hearing the shout makes me jump in surprise realising the voice was Teacher Flos I turned around to look at her face. She was looking at us with a very angry look on her face as she said, "This is a welcoming party fight another time and in a more appropriate place!"

Feeling like she would snap at any moment I bowed and apologised along with the others while the elf boy acted like he had nothing to do with it.

Noticing this Teacher lost it and had some other teachers escort him for a 'time out'. Chuckling at the turn of events I returned to my friends as we resumed chatting until the welcoming party ended.

Back at the dorm we all prepare for bed and go to sleep.

The next day we wash before heading to the dining hall. There we eat breakfast then go to our assigned rooms, having no idea of what's happening I follow my friends when Pure asks me, "Do you have no idea what's happening Levi? Didn't you read the information circular the school sent to each family?"

Remembering something like that I say, "Yeah we got something like that but I felt reading it would be boring. The pages were thin but the writing was small to fit it all on. I got bored after the first line."

Seeing Pure sigh I feel a small amount of guilt until it became troublesome so I forgot about it and said, "Let's go to wherever we need to be then."

Realising that Everyone face palmed mentally at my words I start thinking 'Have I become an idiot or just really lazy?'

Responding to my words Derigo said, 'I believe you are highly intelligent you just seem to be very lazy now. It's a product of how you were raised don't let it get you down.'

As we got to the room Finn says tells us to be careful due to the fact that miss Flos (teacher) will likely be angry from last night.

Entering the room I smell a scent of Old books right and feel my instincts tell me something was wrong just before getting hit by an old book in the face.

"Children this is your first lesson: don't make trouble for me in the future!"

"Yes miss Flos"

Getting of the floor I mumble, "Gorilla"

As if it were a rebuttal another book is launched into my face. Teacher says at the now face down me in an extremely cold tone, "Care to repeat that?"

Due to my fear perception being skewed by mother I didn't register her anger and screamed, "I said GORILLA"

For the next few lessons I slept. Not that it was my intention, I just had no other choice after teacher threw a full force book at me.

Once awake teacher made everything hard for me in order to make an example out of me. However, she failed every time. This was due to me actually having even more advanced knowledge than she was prepared for.

After teacher gave up things returned to a normal school day in my perspective of school anyway. Due to this, I quickly fell asleep and not willing to deal with me after he continuous losses today teacher ignored me.

About an hour later my instincts activated and I awoke to hear teacher say, "Ok we'll be starting magic research class now. Huh, Levi when did you wake up?"

"Just now my instincts flared up and I woke up. Is something significant happening?"

Feeling like there was no danger I think on everything that's happening and realise that she said she was starting magic class.

'If what I'm thinking is right then that would mean my instincts don't just flare up at danger but to notify me to pay attention.'

Putting this to the side I say, "Welp, wouldn't want to miss mystic class would I? Hehehehe."

"Huuu, you're impossible, Levi why don't you share with the class what you know about mystic abilities to get us started."

For the next hour or so I explained what I knew about mystic abilities. However I was told that they are far more complex than I expected. An example of my misunderstanding is that the light magic manoeuvre to turn my body into light is likely only possible due to my body being half-angel due to the fact that angels bodies are largely comprised of the light element. Another misunderstanding I had was that I thought that the magic came from outside my body when in actuality I'm supposed to draw in magic energy to use alongside my own magic. While my bodies is supposed to create the spell, condensing outside magic is supposed to be done in order to enhance the magic. Essentially what I've been doing is the same as using a hollow sword to fight with.

Finding this out I was confused on what the point of everything that Teacher Flos taught me before. Dodging her swarm of thrown books I listened to her explaining how I was only supposed to gain a beginning look at magic from her lessons. Realising I may have taken what she had taught me and distort it I bowed to dodge her last book and sincerely apologised, "Sorry Teacher I thought that I was building upon the basics you taught me but instead I was twisting the things you taught me."

"You brat, you think I'm mad about you twisting my teachings, not even close. What upset me was that you said I taught you those malpractices. Like hell I did!"

After she finished talking my instincts screamed to dodge when almost instantly after a meteor like book hit me on the head knocking me unconscious.

After theory lessons ended Finn, Alta, Pure and I went to the practice grounds designated for the geezers lessons. Arriving at the practice grounds we noticed that the geezer was nowhere to be seen. Looking around all we see is just a large room with concrete walls and a high roof. The floor of the room is made of wood while in the centre of the room is a large basin of water.

Noticing the water in the middle of the room we walk over. Peering in we notice that the water doesn't have any reflections and the bottom isn't visible. Just before Finn touches the water I yell, "Don't touch it!"

As soon as I said that I start to push the basin over. Once tipped the contents flow out in a congealed heap notice is that it looked like some kind of clear tar clump I say, "Is that?"

As if to confirm my suspicion the heap launches tentacles at our group as we simultaneously shout, "Slime!"

In a panicked state I shout, "Alta what do you know about slimes. Any weaknesses?" Saying that I shot a lightning spear at the slime anyway.

"Umm, well slimes are weak to ice element. They get powered up by other elements, they just disperse the attack and absorb the magic. They can also nullify normal attacks unless their imbued with ice element." Feeling apologetic I summon as many ice spheres as I could and shot them at the slime.

Seeing my all out attack the slime dodges as many of the spheres as possible. Seeing that I mostly missed I summoned more and do the same. The result however remains the same.

Feeling that the magic was useless the four of us all pull out our weapons. Condensing the ice element on mine I see the others can't use the ice element. "Guys focus some enhancements on me. Don't worry I'll kill it."

Nodding each of them casts an enhancement on me. Feeling a surge of power I launched forwards and split the slime in half and then split the half's in half. Continuing this the slime eventually dies. However even after winning I felt we lost. None of us felt good after that fight.

"You guys need work. First problem Alta you said that they're only weak to ice element. While you're not wrong why do you think that these slimes are considered low tier if they can nullify everything but ice element. They are low tier because even though they can absorb elements other than ice they have a limit. Second problem, Levi what the hell was that? You just shot at the thing wildly and after missing you do the same thing again. Huu, all of you need work, considering the other two of you did absolutely nothing in this fight until Levi told you to buff him you were even worse than him."

Calming down the geezer said, "Ok let's start by having all of you swing your sword at the air. I want you to stop the strikes just before the tip of your sword is on level with the top of your head."

For the next few hours we continued to swing until our arms started to feel like jelly. Afterwards, the geezer had us run laps until our legs couldn't support us properly. Then and only then he let us go to our dorms to sleep.

Awakening the next day my instincts fired off again and at breakfast my instincts finally bore fruit, when the boss from the other day sent an official challenge to me via arrow and note. Once again thinking about how stupid every 'bad' person in this world seem to be. The challenge was in 5 days and at practice field A.

Ignoring that the four of us continued to class. The next few days were the same as the first, minus the slime, however on the day before the fight a monster was once again brought in by the geezer to test us.

The monster was a Minotaur, supposedly a mid rank monster which is an equivalent rank to the Kobold Tyrant.

Getting into a formation, that wasn't practiced and only felt natural to us we prepared for the impending battle.
