Chapter 23 - Realization

*Yawn*

It was now the morning of the next day and Joshua was yawning as he stretched his body.

'I guess I should just go check out the wolf den again.'

'I should be careful though because there will be a lot of wolves wandering in the area, and if I'm unlucky or not careful I might even bump into the alpha himself.'

'After all the wolves wont just sit around their den all day and only move out at night. They would leave some wolves behind to protect the den and most would go out hunting and doing their own wolf things.'

Joshua leaves his cave and heads towards the direction of the wolf den.

He sniffs the ground occasionally to make sure he is going on the right direction then continues on his path.

When Josh was only halfway to the den he already spotted a small group of four wolves in the distance.

Joshua quickly hid himself and avoided the group.

'Damn! I forgot that wolves are pack animals. They won't be by themselves like when they were patrolling the den at night or when they are playing their hunting game with the Yabans.'

'If I fought with them head on I could win, but I won't be able to kill them all quickly enough before they alert the rest of the pack.'

'After all all they need to do was howl once and reinforcements would be on their way. Also it is revealed that there is a creature hunting them they would be more alert making it almost impossible for me to find a wolf by itself.'

After avoiding the group of wolves Joshua decided to carefully and slowly continue honoring to find a lone wolf to kill.

Unfortunately when Josh was only somewhat close to the den he had to give up. On his way to where he was now he had met with another 5 groups of wolves.

Each group having more wolves in them as he got closer. Joshua could not even find one lone wolf to pick off.

'I can't go any further. It's too dangerous as is, and I don't want to be exposed quite yet. I suppose if I continue to pick off the wolves one by one sooner or later they would notice that their members were dwindling, but now is too early.'

'There is also another flaw in my daytime wolf hunting plan. How do I dispose the body without getting caught?'

'It's not night so the wolves aren't sleeping and I'm not close enough to the den to have the smell of the blood masked. If a wolf happens to wonder at the murder scene and sees or smells the blood they could easily alert the rest of the pack.'

'I don't know how long it takes for the magical little red flowers to sprout from absorbing the blood, but if I left a trail of blood and the blood isn't absorbed yet before a wolf finds it then I've played myself.'

It was then that Joshua was faced with a bottleneck.

'I can only do so much by myself. For instance the goblins are weak by themselves, but they have strength in numbers which helped them survive the constant attacks from the neighboring tribes.'

'Same applies to the wolves. If it was just the alpha wolf I could try to face him after leveling some of my skills, but here I am stuck at dwindling his pack one by one.'

'Now that I think about it, all of the goblin reincarnation novels I read in my past life all were in groups. The Protagonists all lead a group and grew strong together (Though the MC was always the strongest).'

'I need comrades or subordinates if I want to get far in the world. Maybe I should get a wolf pack myself.'

'Obviously not the ones I'm targeting now as they are already corrupted by the red alpha. Maybe after this is over I'll try to find a pack of wolves to lead or something.'

Joshua decides to just head back to his cave. He carefully retreats making note not to alert any of the wolves.

Having made it back Joshua decides to lay out a plan for himself.

'During the day I will practice my skills and occasionally I'll head out into the forest to battle and get some practical training. While during the night I'll continue to pick off at the wolves.'

That was exactly what Joshua did for the past week or so.

During this time Josh had gotten some good and bad news

He took some time to visit the goblin village once during that time and he was glad to see that they were doing just fine.

Continuing with his training, Joshua could now focus his light elements on his limbs to further enhance them.

Joshua hopes that one day he will be able to focus all his light elements into a small part like his claws. That way he will have another deadly trump card as a final blow to surprise his opponents.

Bad news is that during this time period Joshua had been able to eliminate 20-30 wolves taking out a noticeable chunk of the pack causing the pack to become alert as predicted.

The pack is now down to only about 90 wolves excluding the alpha, his mates, and children.

Now it is harder to kill the wolves as they tend to move in groups now even when toying with the Yabans.

'It's now taking much longer to get rid of the wolf pack then I thought, but I have time so I don't mind investing more into my revenge.'

'Let's check out how much I've progressed first.'

'Status'
