Days has passed since I woke up. Lucas and I came into the same conclusion about my memories. We both concluded that I am in the state of amnesia. And right now, all I could remember was Lucas, and all the time that we spent together. I remembered that he was tryng to kill me because I'm a god. I remembered that he helped me back then in town. And the rest were a blur. I couldn't see anyone or anything in my memory except Lucas. And every night, I always have this dream about the guy I met at Hamelin's village. And it's always the same. I couldn't see his face. It was like I was not meant for me to see.
And right now, I stood on the window as I watched the crowd interact with each other. Lucas went to school, since he has some unfinished business left, so I ended up alone in his condominium unit. From my memory, I didn't know that Lucas was rich. I sighed. Maybe I should try going out. Maybe I could trigger some of my memories when I get to encounter them. I did offer the same idea to Lucas a day before, but he objected. He said, I was fine with him. That I have nothing to worry about. I didn't responded on him that time. I didn't know what to say. After all, I owe him a big one.
I stood there unmoving, as I contemplate on what to do. The wind kissed my skin. It's gentle and warm. Maybe it wouldn't hurt if I go out. I looked for a pair of slippers inside the room before heading out. It's okay. Lucas wouldn't find out. I'll return before he does.
I walked through the town, passing through unfamiliar faces. Without any idea where to start and where to go, I walk aimlessly on the streets. Children, women, fathers, and mothers, workers, students, they all mingled in the busy crowd. Why do I feel empty? It's somewhat lonely. As I ponder on my missing memories, a child bumped into me. He grunted and fell butt-first on the floor. My eyes widened and I instantly dropped to help the child.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
He looked at me as held his tears; his lips pouting. That must have hurt. He is about to cry. In his hand, he held a candy as colorful as the rainbow. He must like sweets. I scooped the child up.
"Are you hurt anywhere?" I asked.
The child slowly shook his head as he held his candy tightly, causing my attention to switch back at the sweet. I don't know why but everytime at the mention of sweets, my mind would go blank for a moment, as if I'm trying to recall something unconsciously.
"Where's your mommy, little guy?" I asked.
When I looked down at his baby features, I was surprised to see that he was no longer holding back those tears. He was crying hysterically.
"I'm lost!"
Oh, so he was lost.
"It's okay. Where gonna find your mommy," I assured
The child momentarily stopped from crying and looked up at me.
"Really? Pinky promise?" He asked.
I smiled and held out my pinky finger.
"Promise."
And so, I started walking around the town together with my little companion. It was quite assuring having someone with me. Although, it's just a child, I still feel assured. We started looking for her mother around the town. We asked a few passers by, but we couldn't find a clue.
As the day gets longer, I could see the child losing hope. He's even quieter than before. He would tell me stories about his mother and what games they play, but as we reached the afternoon, with our investigation leading us nowhere, he started looking sour. And it kinda hurts me to see him like that.
"Don't worry. We'll find your mommy in no time. For now, let's take a rest," I said.
We've been walking for a quite a while now. My legs are starting to feel off and I bet, the child is probably tired too. As I looked around, I saw a park nearby. I heaved a sigh and scooped him up in my arms. He sadly laced his arms around my neck and mimicked not a word. Poor child. Where could have her mother gone into? She's probably searching for him too. I walked and sat him on a stone bench beside the slide. I exhaled and sat beside him.
The park was spacious enough to house a merry-go-round, a nine horses carousel, two slides, three see saws and four swings.
"Maybe, mommy's not coming back for me," he mumbled as he drop his head low.
I could hear his voice breaking.
"That's not true. I'm sure she's looking for you up until now," I said as I dropped down in front of him.
"But we couldn't find her. If only I didn't separate from her from the store. If only I listened to her."
Tears streaked down on his cheeks. I patted his head and smiled.
"Did you know that I'm a god?" I asked.
He looked up with his swollen eyes and shook his head.
"If you pray to me about finding your mother, I'm definitely gonna find her for you." I said.
"Really?" He asked.
I nodded genuinely as I watched his tear-streak face.
"Then, I'll pray to you. Please find her. And if ever I have to apologize to my mom for disobeying her, I would," he frantically said.
I smiled. Even though I can see the desperation on his face, I can feel the determination he has inside. I nodded. I watched as he looked at me. His features are a bit relaxed than a while ago, but the swollen eyes still remain. I sighed. Now, how can make his prayer come true? I may be a god as Lucas once said, but I don't what I'm capable of yet since my memories are still locked. I guess I have to look for his mother on my own.
"Ah, so here you are."
I stood up and turned around me, only to find Lucas standing at the entrance of the park, in his uniform.
"Oh, hi Lucas," I awkwardly greeted him.
Lucas eyed me seriously as I watched him. I don't know what to say, so it kinda feels awkward. He sighed before walking towards me.
"So, what's with this kiddo?" He asked.
"Ah, he got seperated from her mother. And we're in the middle of finding her," I explained.
He looked at the kid sharply who's trying to hide behind me. I furrowed a brow at his directions. The kind of brow-furrowing that tells you: stop glaring at the innocent kid. He looked at me for a moment before dropping down at the kid's level.
"Hey kid, it's getting late. We'll have to reschedule your search party tomorrow. So I'll have you come with us for a while," he said.
Taken by surprise, I looked at him before looking down at the kid behind me. The kid didn't say anything, but instead gripped the hem of my shirt. He's probably scaring him. Well, that was too straight for a kid. For me, it almost sound like: hey kid, we couldn't find your mother today. That idiot Lucas sure doesn't know how to use his brain.
I was about to turn and drop myself in front of the kid when suddenly, a loud crash echoed and followed by a vigorous shaking of the ground. Everything happened in a blur, and the next thing I knew, I was thrown away from the slide. There was blood coming out from head, flowing down on my left eye and cheek. Panic run through my mind. Blood. There is blood. I started to hyperventilate at the sight of blood on my hand. Ah, I feel numb. I looked up and saw a giant black figure wrecking havoc, and a small white figure moving agilely on the giant. As my eyes begone to get clearer, a giant black monster, its body partially smoke and mud stood undee the night sky, bellowing.
As soon as I realized what was happening, my mind screamed. The child. Where is he? I pushed myself to stood up and tried to search for him. Trying my hardest to push my panic away. My limbs are trembling from seeing my own blood. And breathing is worst than labor. I wanted to give. I wanted to sit there and trembled, but I can't. Where is Lucas? Where are they? Smoke filled the air, almost making everything pitch black. I started walking in haste as I scream for them. The giant bellowed as an explosion resonated. Blue flames danced on its figure. Terrified at the action in front of me, I frantically ran around, coughing air out of my lungs as I look for kid. Where could he be? At the far end, near the monster's end that looks like tail, a limp figure called out. My eyes widened and recognition immediately registered in my mind. It was Lucas. He was yelling something.
When I started running towards his direction, the monster move a complete ninety degrees, whipping away its tail. My eyes widened. It's coming right at me. I stood frozen in my feet as I watched its tail zipping fast towards me.
"Nina!"
Someone yelled and I was instantly caught in a man's arms. The tail hit the slides, causing them to be blown away in such distance.
My eyes met a pair of sharp blue eyes. His white hair lay messy on his side.
"Nina," he breathed out.
Another whip of its tail came rushing towards us and the guy instantly lift me up again and jumped into another place. I closed my eyes as I anticipate the impact.
"Nina, look at me."
At the man's voice, I opened my eyes slowly. Bewilderment instantly entered my mind as I saw his worried yet relieved face. Do I know this guy? The sound of the monster's bellow echoed and I looked around only to find that we're in the top of a tall building, meters away from the park. I could see the monster berserking below.
"Um, thank you. Please put me down already," I said.
He gently put me down and I slowly stood a few inches away from him. My heart is beating so loudly that it hurts.
"Nina, where have you been?" He asked.
How did he know my name?
"I'm sorry, but I don't know what you're talking about," I said.
"You don't know, you say? Nina, I've been worried sick for a month, and now I found you happily chatting with Lucas, while I struggle til' death trying to exorcist a miasma that I could never exorcise."
His sharp eyes looked at me. And for some unknown reasons, the tone of his voice accusing me made me irritated
" Excuse me? Sir, I do not know you. My business is not yours to mind. And I don't care what you're doing, but you see, because of you, innocent people were dragged into your mess. There could be a child, laying unconscious down there, near that monster that you have brought." I snapped.
"So, it's my fault?" He laughed like he couldn't believe what he is hearing.
"You, a human land god, should be responsible for this. This. This monster is your fault. Disappearing and leaving the shrine behind. You let this monster in on this town. You let it get destroyed. And I, you're divine familiar is trying to cover up for your losses!" He yelled together with the high pitch scream of the monster.
Anger started to build up inside me. Although, I couldn't get what he meant, inside me I'm thinking that he was right. It's odd. It was like my heart and mind are in battle.
The monster screeched and smashed it's surroundings as its smoke started to spread around the place. The man clicked his tongue, looking so frustrated. I looked down and my eyes saw a silhouette of a man coming out from the smoke. I narrowed my eyes until the the man came out completely in view. It was Lucas and in his arms, he held the boy. Releif washed over me like tidal waves. I saw Lucas jumped and landed on a tall tree away from the monster. His eyes looked up and met mine. They're safe.
I was suddenly taken aback as the man grabbed me by the arm, pulling me towards him.
"Let me go!" I exclaimed.
"Nina, we don't have time for this," he said through gritted teeth.
The ground shook even more.
"I don't know you. I don't know what you are talking about. Let me go." I cried as struggle from his grip.
For a moment, I saw pain flashed in his eyes.
"Then, I'll give you the gift of the highest order."
Before I could even utter another word, my mouth was sealed. His lips landed softly on mine, sending warm electricity in my body.
Sweet and warm feelings sit on my stomach. His hands lay on my waist, supporting me.
And all I could I think about is the feeling of his lips pressed against my very own.
