Chapter 16 - What Has You Looking for Miss Bai Got To Do With Me?

Who cares if you are angry?

Jinli rolled her eyes at An Rou. Right then, she found An Rou really boring. Swatting her hands at An Rou, she signalled that she was busy and returned to her own room, leaving the fuming An Rou behind.

Was Jinli really busy?

She was.

She had got to move out of there.

Not because of how she felt her lifespan decreasing with every second that she spent with An Rou, but because the apartment was exclusively for Morning Star's employees. Now that she had terminated her contract, she did not belong there anymore.

Accounting for her finances, she realised that she was really a little wealthy maiden compared to the regular citizens.

She packed up and called a moving company, immediately transporting herself to a renowned luxury hotel.

Well, that was the plan, until he came.

As she was waiting for the moving company to finish their chores, she noticed a Bentley parked inconspicuously at the entrance of the apartment.

Initially, Jinli had just glanced momentarily at it, not minding it at all. However, a bespectacled gentleman, clad in a smart tuxedo, got out of the car. He walked straight to her and stopped precisely 2 metres away from her.

"Miss Bai." Mr Tuxedo courteously greeted her.

With needle-like eyes, Jinli Examined this man carefully. His expression was stable, and his fate was above average as well. Very obviously, he was a relatively successful person.

She flipped through all of Bai Jinli's memories.

Nope, no signs of him at all.

Her brows furrowed into a frown, "Do I know you?"

With a small smile, Mr Tuxedo replied, "Allow me to introduce myself. I am Bai Yan. In some sense, we are from the same family."

Hearing his introduction, Jinli nodded in agreement, "Indeed, indeed. You and Bai Jinli are really a family. However, I am Jinli"

Bai Yan did not understand her.

He, who was normally always adaptable and flexible, was confused.

What? What do you mean? I know every word you said, but why is it that I have no clue what you are saying when they come together?

While he was completely flustered, a successful man like Bai Yan could keep it within his heart. His face remained composed and courteous, and not a hint of unease crossed his face even once.

Keeping his well-mannered smile, Bai Yan explained his purpose of visit, "My master would like to invite Miss Bai for a chat."

Feeling slightly annoyed, Jinli pouted, "Didn't I just say? I am Jinli, not Miss Bai!"

Bai Yan did not know how to respond. Yet, he was highly adaptable, immediately correcting his mistake, "Miss… Miss Jinli."

That soothed Jinli's displeasure. Satisfied, she turned down his offer, "Thanks, but no thanks. I don't even know your superior."

Facing the rare rejection, Bai Yan was speechless. He was confused, no one had ever rejected an opportunity to meet his master. He could not help but confirm his guess, "Miss Ba… Miss Jinli, do you know who my sir is?"

Shaking her head, she replied frankly, "No clue at all."

"Mis Jinli, you don't know how many people would die for a chance to queue up and request a short audience with my master." Bai Yan immediately threw in cues and hints, coaxing her to change her mind , "Should you decide to meet him, your career would definitely accelerate by leaps and bounds!"

That promise shook Jinli, but she steeled her resolve, and rejected the invitation yet again. After all, unsolicited perfect opportunities were bound to hide unknown intentions.

She looked at Bai Yan and questioned, "That sir of yours asked for Miss Bai, right?"

Bai Yan nodded. Hm, sounds about right.

She shrugged, "Oh man, you got the worng person! He wants to meet Miss Bai, what has that got to do with me, Jinli?"

This time, he was seriously at a loss for words.

He stood motionless like the Statue of Liberty, stunned speechless. For the first time in his life, he was unable to come up with an answer.

"So that's that. Bye!" Jinli waved goodbye and left.

Bai Yan turned and faced her stiffly, his eyes blank, evidently still dazed, "... Bye."

Returning to the car, the chauffeur immediately noticed his poor expression and dropped a word of concern.

Even after a thorough wipe, Bai Yan still looked pale, utterly defeated and lethargic. "I'm fine. Let us go meet sir. He needs to know that this man was unable to invite Miss Jinli."
