Sitting in the hospital was never a very comfortable experience, and regardless of the reason it was never one to forget. Wheater it be to see your sweet baby for the first time, or to say goodbye to your parent for the last, it a experience you would never forget. But out of all of Emily's experiences this was one she was sure she'd never forget.
The air carried a strong scent of chemicals which currently made it ten times harder to deal with the already unfathomable information she had just been given. She currently sat in her parents embrace as the doctor read her older sister, sunflower's , verdict out in the antibacterial air.
The tears streaming down her family's were multiplying by the second, form a few drops to a river in seconds. At the same time however, lilith, sat very calmly. No tear on her face ,and no hint of surprise either. Almost as if this was not in fact the first time she had heard the words the doctor announced with little to no sympathy in his expression in his voice.
Quietly, she sat in a single chair with both hands folded in her lap as the doctor said that she 'only had a month at most to live'. She took in the news as if she was hearing yet another lecture from her college professor, not in fact news that she didn't have long left to live.
Her family was bewildered at her reaction. After all this was Lilith, who cried at even the cheesiest of movies and had a knack for making even the most stone faced people laugh. The Lilith, who was stubborn as a mule and never took no for an answer. Their Lilith, who risked everything so that she go into her dream profession and would now never get to see the pay off, sat incredibly calm in her chair as her life plan was torn down in front of her eyes.
"Lilith Parks, I am sorry to say that you have been diagnosed with leukemia " the doctor said in his usual monotone voice. A second wind of sobbing started at these words and kept being steadily replenished with every word after.
" While there are treatments regarding this disease. However, they are not ment to treat those in your stage. At most you have only a month to live. I'd suggest you start writing your will and crossing off the things on your bucket list. Good day." with those words he stood and left the room before any questions could be asked. Leaving the Parks family drowned in their sadness and confusion to dissolve the words said.
There the Parks family slowly gathered themselves once again and made a decision to do with the rest of the time they had left together. Deciding on moving back to all one house for the time as Lilith, or Lily as they called her, was already in her 3rd year of college. Traveling the world together and spending her best, last days somewhere they had never seen before.
Before they could head off though the doctor came in and said " If you decide one day that you think it's a good time to go you'll need these. They are covered by this state's 'death with dignity' law.". He said this handing over a yellow medical bottle full of pills with the words euthanasia titled across the front.
"So where should we go first?" her
mother, Angelica said. A moment of silence followed. Everyone patiently waiting for Lilith, who was oblivious to the fact they they were asking her, to answer. Once Emily, Lily's sister, hit her softly upside the head she realized they were asking her .She jumped a little bit before going into deep thought.
After a second she finally answered "Well, I have always wanted to see Spain" she said sheepishly with her index finger placed on her cheek.
" Spain it is then! " Their father, John, immediately replied.
