Rohit looked at the clock
'She will be here anytime now.'
Since the time he came to know she was arriving to be his assistant in the case, he constantly tried to make himself seem more lively but old habits die hard. However much he tried, the coldness had seeped deep inside his bones, so at last, he gave up trying to be someone else. Moreover what little love was in his heart was brutally crushed unto by the rising frustration birthed due to the lack of leads on the current case. He took up the pen and started marking the areas where the dead bodies were found.
'Five bodies in five corners of the city, all the people completely unknown to each other.
Moreover, none of them had any social status or money.
What could be the reason?'
Though he didn't like to speculate yet in the present scenario he couldn't help it. No clues discovered, no possible motive for murder uncovered. He was feeling he was just watching all the events unfolding themselves.
'Trrrring trrrring'
The doorbell rang.
He shook his head and opened the door, there she was. Standing, smiling, the girl who has stolen his heart, for a second he forgot all about the case and frustration. But before he could even enjoy her beauty his phone began ringing. He took out his phone glanced at the screen.
'Inspector Sumit'
With a confused look, he picked up the phone. But soon his facial expression change.
"Inspector who discovered it?"
Then he listened to the phone for sometime before replying,
"I will be right there."
He turned to Asmita and said,
"Come we need to go somewhere." and then continued to the car parked outside with Asmita closely following behind him.
Asmita was taken back, though she hadn't expected a warm welcome still what she assumed was much better than what she received. Nonetheless, she couldn't do anything so she silently followed. They didn't cover long-distance but the traffic sure made it a long drive.
They were on Ujjain Indore highway. In front of them, a car was rammed into the divider.
A constable took them to the Inspector in charge.
"Sumit, Sumit Tyagi. I am the inspector in chief here. I apologize for my lack of manners as I couldn't greet you earlier though you are here to help us" Sumit explained with a sincere smile. He was speaking the truth, he was too indulged in identifying the connection between the victims. Therefore he wasn't able to keep track of time.
Rohit smiled back at the Sumit and held out his hand. They both shook hands.
Rohit said, "So did you found out something."
"It will be best if we talk about it after seeing the dead body inside."
Rohit diverted his attention to the car. It was not in decent condition, the whole bonnet of the car was thoroughly broken. Despite all this, the person sitting in the passenger seat should have survived the accident. Nothing could be said about the driver and front passenger though.
"No one saw the accident taking place, the one who informed us about the accident told us that he was passing through here when he noticed the car."
"I understand all this Sumit but I am here to investigate the horrifying murders, not some car accident."
Sumit smiled at Rohit and said, "Look into the car and you will understand why I have called you."
Rohit nodded his head and peered into the car, he was stunned. There in the passenger seat was seated a dead body with a huge bloody smile carved in his face. The condition of the face of the body was the same as the face of the other bodies discovered in jute bags.
Asmita felt her stomach churn as she looked at the body and immediately looked away. She had a feeling that from now on nothing will go as she had expected.
