"Your uncle has filed a suit for the inheritance of Steve mansion, which is yours, to his name. He says that he has the document of the mansion, whereas you don't."
"That's absurd. I do have it securely." Nora finally exclaimed in denial.
"Yes we do but not Mr. Gill." Carter corrected her words.
Before they left the country, Nora didn't want to take anything from her past. But when Karan got to know about it, he asked Carter to put all her documents, files, and contract in a locker her father made for security.
"So?" Krish confusedly looked at him.
However Nora understood what was needed there. The document should be presented to their lawyer or to the court if needed. And if the suit reaches the court, then she has to be presented physically in front of the court.
"We have to show them the document." Carter simply replied.
"Show it then." Krish said angrily.
Although he never saw his parents or his home. His love for his home or for his parents is no less. Everything related to them is important to him.
Even if he can't visit that house ever, he still wanted his home to be there forever. And if someone dared to take it away, inevitably he would be angry.
"Sister, where is it? Give them to my uncle." He hurriedly said.
"...I don't have it."
"Huh? What?" Krish unexpectedly looked at her. "You just said you have it."
"In my locker." Nora stated.
"And?"
"Her locker can't be opened by anyone but her only." Carter explained.
"What does that mean?" Krish couldn't understand what was happening at all. "What is the main problem here? That useless uncle or the locker?"
Nora walked to the drawing hall and took her seat on the main couch. Carter and Krish followed her too. Taking a sip from the bottle water, she calmed her tensed nerves. She could not understand what she should do now. While she was looking down to her feet, Carter put the whole scenario into words for Krish.
"The locker which protects all those documents of her's is secured by Nora's fingerprints. It can only be opened by Nora's fingerprints and only her. If someone tries to open it forcefully, the whole document inside will burn out instantly."
Krish's eyes widened. He was shocked to know that this kind of thing actually exists. He had only heard things like this in movies. Although the environment was serious, he excitedly looked at his sister. "Literally sister?"
"..." Nora didn't reply to him.
"Why are you guys tense? If she can open it, then she will. What's the problem here?" Krish asked Carter again.
"The locker is back to your home Krish. Your home, your home land." He replied.
Carter felt very grateful to the kid. Because of him he was allowed to speak. If this discussion he was having with Nora alone, he was sure that the silence would have prevailed in the room for at least an hour before she herself would break it. And don't know in which direction.
Looking at her fingertips Nora asked. "So you want me to go back there just to open a locker?"
"You have got another way?" Carter asked back. "If you have got then say. Of course I am not supporting that idea either."
"Ask my lawyer to go back there." Nora replied.
"Girl, your uncle has one of the best too." Carter immediately said.
She looked at him with an unbelievable look. Sighing deeply she looked down to her feet. "...Uncle, you can't be serious." She slowly spoke.
"There's nothing for me to be funny? Or do you want him to win the case? Your Steave mansion will be theirs. It's all on you."
Hearing the words of their mansion to be someone else's, Krish got worried and loudly spoke. "No!! Sister, we can't let that happen. Right?"
He doesn't know about Rahul Steave, and what kind of relation he carries towards him or his sister, but he did hear about his poor character. He can't let someone like him win over them.
"Yes Nora. We can't let this happen." Carter also nodded.
"We won't." Nora muttered. Getting up from the couch she declared. "I'll go back and handle it."
"I'll go too." Krish hurriedly stood beside her and hugged her arm.
"Me too." Carter said.
Nora shook her head in denial. Shrugging away his hand from Krish's hold, she said. "No. There is no need of yours over there."
"But I want to go back."
"Me too."
"Please."
"Please."
Both Carter and Krish insisted with their puppy eyes. Nora still wanted to deny, however she had no right to stop them from their happiness. All she was worried about was the end.
"Whatever." She said and walked away.
Going upstairs she went inside her room and locked herself in.
Although she said yes to everything that was asked, she realised her given word's importance only once she left them.
Taking her seat on her bed, she tried to calm herself. But no matter how many times she sighed, there was always another one waiting for it's chance. Her hands were trembling. Number of times she forgot to blink.
Her hold on the bed sheet was getting tighter and tighter. Downstairs, she didn't want to make a scene but now she didn't know how to hide her emotions.
She was nervous, scared, frightened and wanted to run away, but the thought of losing her parent's only keep sake was more important to her.
When everything ended she actually planned on leaving everything behind her. For her, she didn't care about anyone's feelings at that time. She did sound ruthless or indifferent but her nature by time has built up this way. For her only her brother matters.
Her indifference was something cold and wrong to the open world but there was no one to stop her. She became ignorant of everyone's feelings.
She became selfish for herself and for her brother. She cares nothing about what others think of her when she shows this side of hers to others.
For her decision, she knows that she might be despised by her uncle, Carter or by Karan Gill, but she wasn't big enough to take such a sensible or responsible decision.
All she wanted was to stay away from every problem.
But now she has no choice but to go back. Now she understands why Sana called her this morning. It was all planned by her Uncle Rahul.
But is this the only face of this whole matter? She doubts.
