Chereads / When I Finally Met You / Chapter 4 - Witnessed

Chapter 4 - Witnessed

For a second, I thought that the newcomer was talking to me. I was about to stand up when I noticed that the man actually walked towards my assailant. Not aware of the violent aura in the air.

He wore a sleeveless shirt and pants that barely reached his knees. Something that guys usualy wears indoors.

My assailant snarled at the man, his fury was obvious on his actions.

The newcomer continued walking towards him casually. I was about to shout a warning for him when the other party suddenly stood up straight and faced the newcomer with a bright face.

"Oh, sorry. I think I just had too much alcohol, my feet is a little unstable."

They are more than a dozen meters from me but the quiet night made their vioces clear to my ears.

I kept my silence, praying that nothing bad would happen to the newcomer.

"Will you be fine? Do you need assistance?" The newcomer asked politely as he stood a few steps away from my assailant.

"No, it's not right to bother anyone for such thing. Thank you for your concern though. I am just about to grab food before I head home." My assailant said casually and made a quick glance at my direction.

'He knew where I am.' I trembled once more. My arms and knees were shaking violently.

"Okey, I'll be on my way then." The newcomer nodded and turned to leave the area. "Oh, by the way, tell your lot not to go hunting people in this city. It really isn't nice."

I was stunned by what I heard. I can't see the newcomer's face but his voice was filled with commanding authority.

My assailant was speechless as well. He was frozen midstep towards me. He obviously didn't expect the newcomer to say something like that.

"What did you say?"

"You heard me. I know why you guys came to this place two months ago." The newcomer said while waving his hands in dismissal, he didn't even bother to look back.

My mind was still processing the his words when the other party suddenly charged towards him. He made a wide swinging motion with his hand that the newcomer was thrown back and slammed to the tree farther away.

My assailant said something that I wasn't able to hear clearly, but I saw him pick up the newcomer by the colar of his shirt and pinned him to the tree trunk. I noticed the big physical difference on their frame. The assailant was clearly the bigger and taller man. He sent in few more punches to the newcomer's body while cursing inaudibly. They were too far away from me and I was too scared to move. I just watched in horror as the newcomer was beaten by the assailant. I feel totally useless, hiding on the foilage while someone was being hurt in my place.

It only took a couple of minutes when I noticed the assailant backing away and almost tripping over himself. It's as if he saw something that scared him to the core. The newcomer just stood by the tree trunk, his clothes were ruffled and I could actually see blood on his shirt.

He stood unmoving for a while, then dusted himself off and walked towards the assailant.

The other party quickly made a few steps back, his knees were clearly shaking in fear.

They exchanged a few words. I wasn't able to hear anything from their conversation but it was clear that the tables were somehow turned. The assailant was trembling in fear, almost afraid to speak too loud and the newcomer was just as calm as ever.

A few minutes later and the assailant made a fearful bow and quickly left the area, tripping once as he went.

The newcomer stayed rooted for a while and wiped the blood on his face. I heard him cursed to himself.

He then looked at my direction and approached me.

"Sorry about that. I hope you didn't see too much. Are you okey? Can you find your way home?" He asked me.

Only that time I realized that I was already standing up, with both of my hands covering my lips. I was suppressing a scream for I don't know how long. Maybe I was already standing by the time he approach the assailant, I can't remember.

"What was that?" I blurted out.

"I'm not sure. Maybe someone who had too much drink."

"He is not a 'Someone!'" I pressed him. I was returning to my curious self again. The fear earlier was fading as I speak.

"I don't know. You tell me." He shrugged.

Only then I realized that I know this guy. He was the one I met the other night on Erica's school. The one that got punched and kicked on the face.

"He had claws, and his eyeballs were green slits!"

"Really? That's scary."

"I know you know of them. What was that?" I demanded. My self confidence was back. I am too curious to be scared at this time.

"I don't know what you're talking about. I just got beat up by some stranger and my body aches all over. I'm going home now." He said and turned away.

He was limping as he slowly walked away.

'You're faking it.' I leaped from the foilage and decided to follow him.

I clearly saw him walked towards me casually, he even had a worried look on his face when he asked me if I can go home alone. Then suddenly he started limping when I began asking him questions. Something is mysterious with this man.

He was limping as he walked so I easily managed to walk beside him. He gave me a pained look but he didn't say anything.

"Thank you earlier, you can deny it all you want, but you saved me. I'm Agatha." I said, giving him a friendly smile.

"I was just passing by. I didn't really saw you."

"I knew you're going to deny it. I'm Agatha." I tried again.

"I'm not denying anything."

"I. Am. Agatha." This time, I paused for every word. How could this man be so dense. I'm obviously trying to know his name.

"Hi Agatha."

I stared at him blankly, If not for his sorry looking condition, I would really be angry at this moment.

I walked by his side for a while in silence, formulating questions on my mind.

"What did you do earlier? You clearly scared the hell out of that....whatever that was." I finally said, unable to keep quiet anymore.

"I'm not sure what you're talking about. Didn't you saw me got beat up?" He said, giving me a confused look.

"But you must have did something. I also saw him back away and he even tripped over himself out of fear." I said, cutting off his way and standing in front of him.

He turned away from my gaze and continue walking on. He didn't answer.

"I don't believe you are actually hurt. I think you are what they call a genetically enhanced human." I said in a taunting voice.

"Thank you, but I don't know what that means."

"Don't you watch movies like 'The Terminator'?" I asked.

"You think I'm a robot?" He stopped on his tracks and faced me.

I instantly realized how dumb my theory was. He has blood on the edge of his lips, and his exposed arms have gash and bruises. His shirt also has blood, He probably used it when he wiped the blood off his face.

"Sorry." I said softly, I felt my face burning in embarrassment.

"The man had too much to drink, he got a little violent on me but he seemed to realize his mistake so he backed away and left."

"I'm telling you it wasn't a normal human, I saw his nails grow longer before my eyes. His eyes are also like that of a snake." I said, I know what I saw.

"Maybe you also had too much alcohol. Why are you outside on this hour anyway. I bet you're still a minor." He said, giving a quick glance to my chest.

I feel so offended that I felt fumes come out from my ears. I know that mine aren't that developed yet. and I also stand at just 162 centimeters. 'Give me a year or two and I will stun everyone.' I gritted my teeth in anger. This guy really know how to offend women.

"For your information, I will come of age next month." I snapped at him.

I saw him chuckle to himself but he didn't say anything.

'Do I really look like a kid? Does he see me as a little girl?' I formed my palms into fists and tried to calm myself. I decided not to talk for a while and focused on the concrete pavement we were walking on.

"Were do you live anyway?" He suddenly broke the silence and asked me.

I was about to snap him my address when I noticed that we already reached the front entrance of my apartment.

We were walking for a while now and I was too absorbed with a lot of things that I didn't notice that we already reached my apartment. I only planned to walk with him for questions until I got satisfied. I didn't realize that I actually followed him while he walked me home.

I was speechless. It's too much of a coincidence. I'm sure that we don't know each other. We were complete strangers and we only meet briefly on Erica's school the other night. There was now way he would know my actual address. 'How did he know where I actually live?'

"How did you know that I live here?" I demanded.

"Wait, you live here? What a coincidence. We're here already. Goodnight then." He said and turned back quickly.

"You didn't know that I live here?" I was unconvinced.

"My body is hurting all over, I really need to rest." He said in a dismissive voice.

"Then let me invite you inside, I'm living alone, you can rest there all you want." I said hurriedly.

He looked at me blankly for a while until I realized what I just said. I actually invited him to my home and declared that I live alone. I felt my face burning once more.

"Thanks, but I don't think that's a good idea." He said in a kind voice.

I just nodded silently. I am frustrated and angry and embarrassed all at once. I didn't speak.

"I'm going now. Bye." He gave me a wave and finally left.

Is stood outside for a while until he disappeared into the darkness of the night. I let out a sigh and went inside.

A lot of things happened that my mind was still not done processing it when I hit my bed. Then I realized that my camera was still on.

I spung back up and reviewed all the footage. I knew what I saw earlier but I still need to take another look on all of it.

I played the video where I was in the park, hiding from the blonde assailant that was chasing me. The video was a bit blurry and would sometimes come out of focus but I watched on.

The assailant was crouching on the grass, clearly looking for me when the newcomer arrived. They exchanged some words for a while, then the assailant suddenly attacked when the newcomer turned his back.

I tried to look closely as the assailant punched the newcomer for a while, obviously furious. Then all of a sudden, he backed away in fear. I played and replayed the video but I wasn't able to find any clue as to what actually happened. The newcomer really didn't even raised his hands to defend himself, much more to fight back. It really looked like the assailant just backed away on his own free will, as if he realized the big mistake he just did.

I know that there was more to it but I was just too far away at that time. I can't hear their conversation.

"I didn't even get his name." I sighed and dived back to my bed.
