Today was nothing new for Misaki. She quietly sat on the tatami mat flooring as her 22nd doctor did a detailed check up on her. Her mother, in a pretty patterned kimono and her hair braided down sat patiently and waited. "I haven't detected anything irregular about Misaki. Everything looks normal on paper." He said.
Yeah, on paper. What something looks like on paper doesn't mean jack shit. Who am I kidding? That's what everyone seems to rely on nowadays.
Miss Hideyoshi, her mother stood up. "What do you mean you haven't found anything irregular about my baby? Is hallucinating for your entire life considered 'normal' nowadays? Unbelievable. You're supposed to be a professional." Her voice sounded like a snake. Don't get the wrong impression however. Miss Hideyoshi is a very sweet, soft spoken woman who puts others before her. She doesn't play when it comes to her beloved daughter however.
"Oh come on, mother. You honestly can't tell me that you thought he'd find something. I've had over twenty doctors in my lifetime, when will you learn?" Although Misaki was pretty indifferent to this current situation, her voice sounded slightly hurt, as if she had a slight flame of hope that the doctor could help her. Hisako sighed lightly as she knew that he daughter was right. "Thank you for your time sir, please find your way out." She said as she bowed to him. The doctor grabbed his things and bowed to the both of them before leaving. Hisako scoots over to Misaki attempting to grab her hand but Misaki quickly pulls them away and stands up. "I'm gonna go stroll around town for a while. See you later." She said. "This late at night? It's 9pm and everyone is already in their houses." Hisako gazes at her as she watched her daughter shrug and leave. It felt like just yesterday she was a little girl who loved her mother to death. Now she was a distant hormonal 16-year old who questions why her mother put her into existence.
Misaki always claimed to see people who looked skeletons with their flesh burning off, even in broad daylight. This caused people to see her as a weirdo who sees shit that isn't there. She swears that they're really there but she stopped trying to prove that she isn't crazy.
Lingering around the town for a while, she found nothing that struck her interest. A sudden bad feeling struck her as she turned around to see a "skeleton with their flesh burning off."... she calls them Demons. His was stare was terrifying as he was looking dead at her. Seeing someone like that he the only other person on the street with you would be creepy as hell. "What the fuck?" She mumbled under her breath as she very slowly retreated. They paused and started at each other with glares as the wind blew through their hair. "You.. you can see me can't you?" He said in a deep, distorted voice that chilled Misaki down to the core. Slowly walking away was no longer an option when the "Demon" started walking at an alarming speed towards her. She ran and looked around for a potential building to hide out in.. but everything was closed! She tried to shake him off but running in all sorts of different directions throughout the town but no luck. He was still tailing her. Why? Who knows.
While she ran she thought
What the hell does he mean by "You can see me, can't you?"
She was losing her stamina and won't be able to keep running for long. "Somebody help me!" She yelled out. She turned around a corner and ran into an alley, going deep into it. "Whew.. thank god I lost him." She sat down and panted softly.
A shadow stood in front with of where the entrance, cornering her in the alley. "I see that you go your hopes high for a second there." The demon said.
Misaki closed her eyes and tried to convince her self that this shit wasn't real and that it was all a dream. That she really was crazy in the head and just seeing things.
She heard the footsteps slowly approaching her. "You think you're seeing things but trust me, you aren't. I can assure you that you're not. Do you know what that means? You're unique. That's why I can't allow you to live any longer." He grabbed her by the neck and forcefully pushed her into the wall, nearly managing to crush her windpipe. Slowly, he brought her off of the ground and looked up at her. He saw a glimpse of something that terrified him. "Oh my god.. you're... related to Him. You have the same smell.." He puts her down and Misaki gasped for air.
A voice that came from behind the man suddenly startled them both. Her hair was long and dark, wearing a black school uniform and was wielding a huge Morningstar that was thrown over her shoulder. "Hey shithead. Picking on a human girl? I hate assholes like you, picking on the weak. It makes me.. want to bash their skulls in." The girl lunged at the man and pinned him to the ground. She got on top of him and raised her Morningstar. Before she swung it down, the man managed to grab it from her and throw it out of her reach.
"Oh—" He kicked her off of him with such horsepower, slamming her into a wall. She coughed a bit of blood out. "You!" She looked at Misaki.
"Y-Yes?"
"Make yourself useful! Bash his head in!"
Without a second thought, Misaki grabbed the Morningstar and ran swiftly swung at the "demon". She only managed to blow half of his head off which clearly didn't kill him. He turned around and grabbed so Misaki threw the weapon at the girl in black, allowing her to deal the final blow. The next thing she knew, the both of them were covered with blood. She hated it but the girl in black completely neutral about it. The man who was now a headless corpse dropped to the ground and bled out. A black cloud like substance risen from the corpse. "You will pay." It whispered before fading away.
"What the fuck just happened? We just killed a demon— I mean..."
"No, you're right. That was a demon." She said.
"W-what? You're hilarious really... I've been seeing people like him my entire life, there is no way that they're really demons. Because if that's the case.. I spend my entire life thinking that I was crazy when I'm not!" Misaki was this close to having a mental breakdown. There was a little part of her that believed Megumi, jabbing away at her like woodpecker.
"Yep, I know. It sounds like so much bullshit, doesn't it? It's the truth. They really exist, as much as we'd like to believe that they don't. You know the saying 'The Truth is Often Stranger Than Fiction' .I thought that I was going crazy too once upon a time. I'm Megumi by the way. Just Megumi. I don't have a last name." She would took Misaki by the hand and shook it, getting even more blood on her. She grimaced her face as she looked at her. "You're gross." She wiped her hand on Megumi's shirt. "Anyways, what the hell were you doing out this late at night? Don't you have parents to tell you not to go out?" Megumi scolded Misaki. "I do.. I just wanted to go for a walk."
"Well you better turn your but around a go back home."
Misaki scoffed. "You shouldn't be talking! You're about the same age as me and yet your carrying around this big ass Morningstar weapon like you won't get in trouble!"
"To be clear, I only carry it around at night. Let's go to the park and talk." Then girls walked to the park and sat down on the bench.
