"James Logan, where are your manners. We're your parents. You're not ten anymore." A dotting older woman came out of the beautiful kitchen, her waist wrapped in an apron. She gave him the warmest hug a mother can give to a child. His father came out of another room, and join us, as he hugged his son and patted his back.
"My son, how are you James? Wait, you look happy. Pat, are you seeing this?" He asked the older woman.
"Oh my god, you're right. He does look happy." Then they both looked right at me. James was laughing at me already, as I was blushing to the deepest shade of red.
"Oh my! You're the one aren't you? You're making our grumpy son happy? James! Don't be rude." She smacked his arm.
"Right...erm, mom, dad this is my girlfriend Lorraine. Lori baby, this is my mom Patricia and my dad Jonathan." He pushed me infront of his parents.
God this man!
His mom quickly hugged me, then passed me to his dad to be hugged by him. Then his dad, gave me back to James.
This is one weird family.
"So, Lorraine. Or can we call you Lori just like James? You can call us Pat and Jon, or mom and dad just like James." She plastered he sweetest smile on her face.
"Yes for Lori, and I will call you Pat and Jon, if it's okay with you?" I was blushing again.
"Yes! Yes of course. Oh my god James, I love her already. Come Lori. Let's make our boys some lunch. Do you cook?" I shook my head sadly at her.
"Well then, I'll teach you. Come. Boys you can do your thing and be back here in an hour."
His mom was the warmest person I had ever known, she was even better than my nanny that had cared for me until my early teen years. Mother and FatherĀ were hardly around, I was clinging to my nanny, chauffeur and my horse while I was growing up. We were the typical socialite family. I never imagined James grew up, with this set of parents.
"Lori, honey... I know James can sometimes be a bit too much to handle. His take on life is a bit different than ours." His mom conversed to me while chopping onions, and telling me to prepare the salad.
"He took everything too serious, I don't even know where he gets it from. You're the first woman we've ever met. I was getting worried that he would live out as a hermit." She laughed at her own joke nervously, and quickly knocked on wood.
We were almost finish with our cooking. I was setting up the table since I couldn't do much.
"We would see glimpses of women. But he never introduced them as girlfriends. You're the first one. So thank you! For sticking by his side." She hugged me again, I was melting in her arms. I never got this much motherly hugs in one day. My eyes started to water.
"Mom...What did you do? Lori, you okay?" James quickly came to my side, seeing my teary eyes.
"I'm good James. Sorry. Emotional. Period. Woman hugs. Mom. My mother. Your mom is better than mine. I love your mom." I blurted my words, ranting out, then quickly hide my face in his chest. Obviously embarrassed that I cried, because I got to many hugs from his mom.
Damn period thingy.
"Hey, it's all good Lori." He stroked my hair. I could hear his mom laughing sweetly behind me.
"Come here Lori. It's all good honey. Let's finished platting our lunch okay." We did just that as she give me a side hug, and peck my cheek.
"She's a keeper, don't lose her James." She called out to James, making me blushed while he laugh from the dinning table.
James finally showed me around the vineyard. We tasted some wine, lots of wine actually. And I was tipsy already by the time we reached the main house. We had dinner and sober up before we headed back to his place. His parents were staying the night there, as we said our goodbyes to them. Pat hugged me a bit longer and whispered her thank you again for making his son happy.
"You have the best set of parents. I love them. I don't get where you got your workaholic bits from?" I asked him, a bit slurring my words to him. I had couple more glass of wine, that his mother insisted me on trying after dinner.
"You're asking the same question to yourself baby. Seeing your sets of parents, and seeing what you've become it makes me wonder. They're so cold and distant, while you're so loving and blushed easily. So I guess it's the circumstances, the surroundings and others, I don't really know." He took my hand, and kissed my knuckles.
"I think I'm a bit drunk James. You definitely need to help me out. I couldn't resist your mom earlier when she gave me her favorite wine to taste." James smiled at me and kissed me.
"You're good baby, I'm sober. I'll carry you up to my bed."
"James! Don't say such things on my period."
"Lori baby, there is other things that we can do, while you're on your period." He opened the car and carry me in his arms.
"Hmm...I'm liking this already. Let's just snuggled and watch some movies."
"Sure, we can do that if you want." He carried me and put me down, once we reached the sofa.
"Ice cream, chocolate or popcorn?" He asked me walking to the kitchen.
"James baby, you're speaking my language now. Ice cream please. I'm taking a quick shower first, you can pick the movie."
Half an hour later we cuddled up in front the the TV freshly showered, ice cream in hand and watching some zombie apocalypse. I was holding my breath every five seconds. "This is a very frustrating movie James."
He chuckled and pulled me closer to him, and spooned me the ice cream then kissing me, tasting the ice cream in my mouth.
"Thank you for today James. I really like spending time with your family today."
"Me too baby. Me too." He stroked my hair, until I finally close my eyes and drifted off to sleep in his embrace.
