Chapter 1 - Awakening

Averci City was a relatively small town, near the boundaries of the Great Forest, it sustained itself on hunting magical beasts, and many different occupations that used those materials procured from those beasts to produce different armours, weapons and potions, and exporting these goods. Yet, it was incapable of flourishing economically, as repeated invasions by the magical beasts would cause damage to the walls, creating a demand for constant repair, and causing the loss of many skilled hunters.

Most of the hunters in the town were part of the Adventurer's Guild, which was the tallest building right after the Church, it was a rather thin building, with 2 wings on each side. The main building was dedicated to assigning different missions to adventurers, and substituted as an inn to, and most groups sent stationed a representative here in order to find fresh and capable new recruits and obtain any quests with a luxurious reward.

In the wing towards the left, their was a supply shop, stacked with a large variety of potions, armours, weapons and magic scrolls and items too. It was always lively and the sounds of people bartering never seemed to stop.

The wing towards the right was always full of a youthful atmosphere, as the training ground for rookie adventurer's was located there, and the Awakening Station, which was one of the most essential part of any town, was located there too.

Awakening a strong ability was the dream of any person, and anyone above the age of 10 was capable of awakening an ability. There was a wide variety of abilities a person could attain, yet, they could broadly be divided into 7 categories, them being Equipment, Body Reinforcement, Elemental, Support, Analytical,

Divine and Demon; each of which corresponded to their respective colour of a rainbow.

Outside this building, stood a young boy, quite tall and chubby yet not obese, and with an amiable face, dark hair and emerald green eyes, who walked side by side holding the hands of a young maiden; who had good looks but didn't stand out in particular other than the aura of warmth and care she radiated.

She told the boy in a loving and motherly tone, "Erwin, I've told you this before and will say it again, it doesn't matter what kind of ability you awaken, ma will always love you."

Erwin replied"Don't worry ma, I'll awaken a strong ability and make you proud, and then I'll take care of you and Kline." Yet, the confidence he seemed to express his words contrasted his nervous and shy demeanor.

As they entered the Adventure's Building, they both waited in line until they were able to get to the receptionist, an elderly and balding man with just a strand of white hair poking out from the center of his head.

Upon noticing Elena approach the desk, he said,"Oh Elena, what a pleasant surprise seeing you. So, what could the vice-captain of the Blazed Fang hunting squad be here for today."

Elena replied "Hey old man, little Erwin over here finally turned 10 years of age last week, he's come for his Awakening."

Only then did he notice the kid who's head was barely above the desk, and said "Good luck kid, I remember my fiest Awakening, I was so nervous I could barely walk straight. Anyways, you have to go to the right wing, and ask Lulu to send you to the Awakening Room. She'll help you out with the rest."

Enroute to the right wing, Elena exchanged pleasantries with some acquaintances, and after entering the right wing, she informed Lulu of the reason of their visit, who promptly guided Erwin to the Awakening Room while asking Elena to wait outside.

In the room, an old man lazily sat on his stool, leaning against the wall and as if he would fall asleep any moment. Yet, upon sensing someone come in, he suddenly propped back up to life and used his long wooden wand to direct Erwin to come right in front of him, while Lulu had long left the two alone.

After Erwin approached him, he said in a monotone and seemingly practiced manner"Okay kid, you probably know about this but still, formalities are formalities, so, this is an Awakening Crystal" while pointing towards large, transparent crystal in the center of the room, "It will turn into one of the seven colours depending which category your ability belongs to, and you can see the details of your ability by summoning your level screen."

Erwin just nodded along as the old magician rambled on, until finally he was told to put his hands on the crystal.
