Chereads / Maou: Summoning / Chapter 49 - Overwhelming

Chapter 49 - Overwhelming

At the moment when Jabberjonk's feet touched the grand arena, the Divine Formation starts shining with myriad colors and, just like that, from nothing, something was created. Space started to dilate and expand while countless trees sprouted from the ground. In the blink of an eye, the Divine Formation is replaced with a grand forest hundreds of kilometers in diameter. This kind of wonder that exploits space, time and even reality itself is something that only Creation Gods could ever hope to achieve.

"Ladies and gentlemen! Please raise a round of applause for Jabberjonk!" [Ha'L]

I don't know what the hell that floating singularity expected, but no one even dared to make the slightest noise.

"And his opponents, from the team "Severing the Twilight" we have none others than Ula and Nula!" [Ha'L]

Yeah… The birds… Standing about 1.70m tall, with colorful feathers covering the entirety of their bodies, long beaks, bushy tails, and skinny lizard-like legs with four sharp claws, they look exactly like humanoid birds. To be honest I don't know that much about them. But let's say that I've heard a rumor and, if it's true, then the muscle-head is by far the worst match for them.

"That being said, let the match… Begin!" [Ha'L]

The moment Ha'L's voice fell, Jabberjonk just rushed forward with tremendous momentum. In the blink of an eye, the monster was already on top of the seemingly tiny couple of birds, his massive fists ready to pulverize them on the spot. I do not doubt that if he manages to hit them even once, they are dead. Unfortunately for the idiot, his opponents are the perfect counter to his brutish way of fighting.

As to prove me right, just before Jabberjonk's fist was about to connect, both of his targets disappeared from the spot. In the next second, two shallow cuts appeared on Jabberjonk's ankle, directly severing his tendons.

Losing his balance combined with the overwhelming momentum that he was already carrying made the idiot fall face-first on the ground.

Before even understanding what happened, two colorful strikes of light were already upon him, slashing at his unprotected back, covering the giant in countless tiny wounds. In less than a second Jabberjonk was already a tragic sight to behold, blood and mud covering his whole body.

"Don't fucking mess with me!" [Jabberjonk]

With a terrifying bellow, the brute's both fist hit the ground sending a tremendous shock wave in all directions. A massive crater is created in his immediate vicinity while countless trees are uprooted. Energy mixes with blood as a torrent of power is unleashed. The air is heated up to thousands of degrees before turning directly into plasma creating a massive void. In the next second the ground gives in turning into countless debris flying in all directions.

The two nearly invisible figures are, for the first time, forced back. Unfortunately for the idiot, the hesitation of the birds only lasted for a fraction of a second as in the next one their bodies rushed through the debris, avoiding falling trees and big pieces of rubble while taking the small ones face on. Although their beautiful plumage suffered from the terrifying heat, in the next moment two sharp daggers could already be seen by Jabberjonk's throat, ready to put an end to the rampaging brute's life.

Just before their daggers actually stabbed the idiot's neck, a tremendous force of repulsion sent their bodies away.

"Enough! Jabberjonk is unable to fight anymore. This win goes to the team "Severing the Twilight"."[Ha'L]

Yeah, it was over before it even began and Jabberjonk's struggle just proved that sometimes overwhelming power stands no chance to absolute speed. Of course, there are also exceptions. Sometimes experience can breach that gap and create unexpected results. If they were to keep fighting each other for 10.000 rounds, even though at first Jabberjonk might lose every single one I firmly believe that in the end he would start winning and when that happens, his victories would just start piling up.

Unfortunately, today at the very least, it's truly our loss.

As Jabberjonk comes down from the arena, his bloodied frame covered in countless cuts is slightly trembling. Based on the rage-infused look that can be observed deep in his eyes I doubt that it has anything to do with his physical condition. It looks like he expected this to be an easy win and losing was never even a possibility that was worth being considered in his mind. Unfortunately for him, the reality is sometimes a cruel mistress.

"Attttention everyone! As the next teams have already been selected, we are going directly into the second match of this fate-deciding tournament." [Ha'L]

'No intermission whatsoever eh?'

'And when the hell were the teams selected?'

"In our second match of today, we have for Goddess Eira none other than the head of the Ancient Tribes, one of the few remaining survivors of a grand race who has dominated for eons, Lubba!!!" [Ha'L]

For the first time, some noises can barely be heard in the audience. Well, it's to be expected I guess… Lubba is without a doubt a figure that has shaped our current universe standing by that bitch's side from the very beginning.

"And her opponents, the five fallen stars of Evenheim, team "Endless Gloom"!"

'Oh… That's unexpected…'

I guess they never thought Lubba, one of our main combatants, would go second.

Team "Endless Gloom" is, from what I know, their third strongest. In reality, away from the abnormality known as Lludd, Kane's universe is not particularly strong. In a direct fight, they would lose against our forces even if we were to exclude Lubba and me from that equation. Considering this, sending their third strongest team towards certain doom is without a doubt a big loss for them.

As the two teams start moving towards the arena, the Divine Formation is once more powers up, turning the devastated forest into something completely different. As the trees are reduced to dust, endless sand starts emerging from the ground. Soon, boundless dunes can be seen as far as the eye can see.

Lubba, with her massive frame, just ignores everything and moves forward with unstoppable momentum.

Her enemies for this round are four black-hooded figures that accompany a man with a dark set of armor. In his right hand, a great sword can be seen, infused with some kind of mist that keeps slowly flowing on its surface. On top of his head, a crown with twelve spikes that goes deep in his flesh is overflowing with crimson blood that is covering the back of the man like a cape without actually spilling on the ground. His eyes are completely missing and, in their place, a torrent of darkness rotates slowly counter-clockwise. If you look carefully, you could see deep within those abysses, four hooded figures shrouded in countless living shadows.

As Lubba reaches within 100 m from her enemies, the hooded figures behind the ominous looking man start chanting in an unknown tongue. Soon, countless formations and hexes fill the heavens and the earth. At a glance, even someone like me can distinguish at least a couple dozens of support spells: aura manipulation, magic resistance, thorn armor, physical reflection, mind protection, arcane anomaly, life detection, wave amplification, synergy link, time warp, divine protection, etc.

Soon, the hooded figure looks less like a hell-spawn covered in blood and more like a Christmas tree. Considering all those spells, it's obvious that their team is without a doubt a powerhouse worth being recognized with… Unfortunately, their enemy is Lubba… No matter how many spells they cast, this fight is going to be over before it even started.

"As the two teams seem to be ready, there is nothing else that can be said away from… Begin!"

In the split of a second, the man rushes with a speed exceeding even that of the birds towards Lubba. As he moves forward, the air is parted before it even touches him, creating a void corridor. Like this, no sound is created making him nearly invisible as he moves at speeds far exceeding the speed of sound itself. In the blink of an eye, his sword is already aimed at Lubba's chest.

'Swish'

'Eh? She dodged it?'

Well, I'm not surprised that Lubba is capable of dodging that sword. What I'm surprised about is that she decided to not end this farce of a fight with a single exchange. And, from the looks of it, her opponent is also flabbergasted.

A fraction of a second later, a determined look replaces his surprise, as he disappears once more from his spot. In the next moment, a blade can be seen slicing towards Lubba's ankle.

Lubba, looking completely unperturbed by the man's action, simply steps forward, avoiding the attack that incapacitated her son with minimal movement. Then she swings her fist towards her opponent.

'Boom!'

As a tremendous explosion sends molten sand in all directions, Lubba's giant figure can be seen rushing towards the 4 hooded shapes in the back. Before they could even react, the monster already smashed all four of them into the ground.

"It's over!" [Jabberjonk]

'Dumb-ass…'

From the looks of it, even Mea managed to understand what is truly happening but that idiot still has no idea.

Seemingly only to prove him wrong, the 4 figures that were smashed into the ground a second ago melt into pure darkness and rush towards the hell-scape in the back where the man was when he got smashed by Lubba's fist.

In the next instant, from within the sea of glass and fire, the man can be seen walking, basically untouched by anything that happens around him. Deep within his eyes the four shadowy figures turn corporeal and start moving. Then, even more formations appear around him. Void bolts, shadow scythes, poison daggers, etc. Myriad spells are flying towards Lubba.

As the endless dunes are set in motion, a cyclone of arcane magic engulfs Lubba.

'Boom' 'Boom' 'Boom' 'Boom'

Explosion after explosion, spell after spell, Lubba's figure can be seen dancing amidst the endless chaos with the grace of a butterfly while carrying the power of a demon. Slowly, she gets closer and closer to the hooded man while avoiding any spells that could threaten her.

Realizing that he won't accomplish anything like this and seeing the breathtaking spectacle before him, the man has no choice but to move forwards. Unexpectedly, the torrent of arcane spells doesn't stop or slow down in the slightest. If anything, it seems that more and more AOE spells are incorporated into the mix.

'Swish' 'Bang'

Sword vs fist. Fist vs Spells. Spells vs sword.

Amidst the chaos that is unfolded before us, Lubba's figure can be seen sometimes smashing everything in her path while other times avoiding spells with endless elegance. Her defense and offense are nothing more than perfect.

Soon, the man is covered in blood and wounds, the majority of which have been inflicted by his own spells, while Lubba is perfectly fine, untouched by the madness covering the arena.

Being unable to take any more damage, the torrent of spells stops for a fraction of a second. For many, this period of time would be too short to even blink but for Lubba it's more than enough. In the next instant, her massive fist can be seen sunken deep in her opponent's stomach.

'Gagh!'

At that moment, all of his defensive spells are directly destroyed while his figure can be seen shooting like a meteor. The pressure released by that hit sends the reaming arcane power and sand in all directions. Soon, the only thing that remains is Lubba's figure on top of the base of the Divine Formation while mountains of sand cover the edge of the arena.

The shadow-covered man is nowhere to be seen.

"Now, it's over!" [Andel]

It looks like the idiot finally understood the situation… In normal circumstances, a single fist from Lubba would be more than enough to obliterate the whole arena killing anything within. The fact that the fight was not over with the first exchange was everything someone had to know to understand that something was amiss.

During the struggle, it was obvious that Lubba was holding back. To be more exact, she purposefully dropped her level to B+, the same realm her stupid son is at.

Basically, using this fight, Lubba showed Jabberjonk how a member of the Ancient tribes should fight!

"And with this, the victory goes to the team "One Move"!" [Ha'L]

Indeed… With this fight, we won more than a simple victory… For the first time since I've met him, Jabberjonk's head is bowed down. Although it seems hard to believe, it looks like the idiot finally learned something!
