Chapter 18 - A Glint In The Eyes

"Milord we should break the siege!"

"A huge army of the long ears were seen by our scouts!"

In front of a huge castle, an army of fifty thousand could be seen, battering rams and other siege equipments was being put to motion as trebuchets and catapults hurled burning rocks to their designated location.

"I see, then let us send a messenger then and see through their intentions"

A soothing voice was heard to answer the nervous looking soldier, the one who answered was a man at his mid twenties with his feminine looking face and voice, people would surely thought of wrong first impressions, he held a quill and could be seen writing in an old and tattered paper whom he handed out to the soldier.

"But Milord they're armed to the teeth and they even brought their Red clover army!"

"Now now, didn't I say to send a messenger just to see their intentions?"

"At your will!"

The nervous looking soldier got up to his knees and with a heavy heart, took off to look for a messenger.

"Now then, I suppose setting traps at our rear was a good choice"

"General!"

The man soon relaxed himself and called out.

"Yes, Great General?"

In which a man fully clad in armor set out to answer the call.

"Break off the siege, we're going around the castle, and stay a few kilometers away"

The man said as a glint in his eyes was seen.

"As for the siege equipments, burn it down"

"As you will Great general"

With the same manner as the soldier earlier, the iron cladded man soon left.

"The men should hurry before they break off the traps"

The feminine looking robed man tapped his fingers in a frenzy.

___________

I am the general of the left, William is my name, and was a candidate to be one of the five great generals of the Empire, and out of nowhere that final destination of mine was overtook by five kids, they were all pampered and clearly could be seen inexperienced, but I can never deny that they are true prodigies, the future of our long standing empire, they will pacify the other kingdoms with their brilliance.

And now I serve the Great General Guinne as his tutor in the arts of war and accompanying him in his first siege.

Although in the battlefield he was truly a well minded strategist, I'll be honest I can never surpass him in his tricks, but that's the reason why the men hated him, afterall they only saw him as a coward and unlike the other generals he didn't go personally to the battlefield to tend to it, the morale of the men was going down, but I was there to lead them in battle, so that's also a reason why the emperor decided to confer me as a tutor and assistant of the Great General, I also tried to mend his ways but he only said to me

"A general is a general, and a soldier is a soldier, they have their own tasks, just because the other generals personally lead the battle doesn't mean I also have to, right?"

Although that pisses me off I couldn't retort anyways, it's not like the books said that the general had to personally lead the battle.

And now the boy ordered to break off the settlement and go around the castle, although I'm no siege master, this was probably a mistake if I am sure, since I'm his tutor I'll have to give advice, but my mind couldn't be honest, my instincts in the battlefield tells me that the glint in the eyes of the boy had was pure confidence.

Although there's also the threat of the elves how could he have such confidence.

"Tch, I guess if things go south I'll have to rescue the Great General"

The castle we are besieging right now is part of the factions that broke off their loyalty to the empire, though they're people who are already content of their lands and will probably no longer invade any lands, the emperor still couldn't stand people who doesn't gives tributes.

The castle is governed by a man named Emmanuel 'The tiger' who was also one of the former empire's generals who was known for his aggressiveness in battle, but even right now, he doesn't stood a chance as his ten thousand could not be used against a fifty thousand, especially the Great General kept a distance that could not be easily overcome by a frenzied charge like the opponent always does, but enough for the trebuchets and catapults to throw their rocks.

But a number of a fifty thousand are also a number that couldn't go against a ten thousand inside a well protected fortress especially led by a renowned man, but right now the enemy must be at their end especially that their supplies are now almost depleted, we've been besieging them for a month now afterall.

But a man given a title is also something not easily trifled with, I'm pretty sure the man is also up to something by now.

And what's worse is that the elves is now also making a move, just what the emperor had feared.
